Reboot Required After Every Update

I never had to do this with KIS 2012 and now I decided to purchase BD Total Security and every time I am getting a reminder to reboot after every update? WTF?

I shouldn't be required to reboot after a definition update.

This is just ridiculous BD and please fix for me. <img class=" />

    Same problem here. Show thread

Raised a ticket and got a rather unhelpful response:-

Thank you for your interest in our security solution, Bitdefender.

It may be necessary to restart the computer when you have completed the

update. We recommend doing it as soon as possible.

If you want to delay the restart after each update please follow these steps:

open the Bitdefender main interface -> click on Settings -> click on Update

module -> turn on the Delayed Restart option.

They obviously had not read the 6 - 8 times a day bit of my report and just sent out the usual pro-forma reply!

Yes but KIS 2012 or any version before that never needed me to reboot my PC after a definition update. Only if the program was updated to a new version. This onerous requirement is ridiculous.

So if do not attend to my PC in person and go away and leave it on for say 2 weeks, my computer will not be protected as was not able to physically intervene and do a manual reboot.. So I could become infected as result of not having the latest virus definitions. I would like to know what the situation is. I have checked EVENTS in "Update" and it says "Updated Successfully" and no longer says I need to reboot. but I haven't rebooted my computer as I was asleep and just got up but it appears updates every hour..

    Hello :)

For some reasons, some files could not be replaced during the product update.

That's why receive that prompt because the product is trying to replace them and can not perform this due to some restrictions. Do you have several administrator accounts? Do you have limitations on your current account?

Please try to repair the product by following these instructions:

Mate I have uninstalled and reinstalled this product. Now the bloody thing doesn't load

Now I get "Bitdefender services are not responding" I got the desktop gadget first time round and the indicators were all "RED" and said "Failed" when I clicked on it. Now I don't even get the desktop gadget loading and the "B" in the system tray is greyed out see the attached screenshot.. Is there anyway I can get a refund as this program hasn't really met my expectations or the hype surrounding it from day 1 as demonstrated by my posts here on this forum.

    Thank you!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled and I have repaired the installation umpteen times I have restarted the PC umpteen times. What else do you want me to do ? Nothing you have suggested works. BD TS 2013 still telling me that I have to reboot my computer after a Virus Definition update. That's a joke as the program hasn't been updated. No other AV does this, just yours. Sad. I would rather just my money back thanks, how do I get that? It appears BD don't want to know about my email seeking a refund so it appears I have wasted my money as I sent a email to sales@bitdefender.com and this is what the result was --- Who is Mandee Harrington? Her name isn't Rumanian , more like British. Mandee Harrington

The same message is being received for Safebox, it keeps telling annoying me it needs to restart my system, even though I have turned off auto-synch in my settings.

It's probably related to same issue but again this is a joke and I want my money refunded.

How many times do I need to restart my system just to stop these annoying "Alerts" which are really not needed?

  • I have NEVER EVER EVER had to restart my PC with KIS versions 2010 -2012 after a normal virus definition update. It just does it in the background without any annoying alert. Why can't BD be the same and just leave me alone and only alert if it finds a virus?

  • Hello Towley,

I am sorry for this and I have refunded your Bitdefender purchase, as requested.

Please let us know whenever we can be of further assistance.

    Regards,

I have just found out what has been preventing my laptop from connecting to the internet..I have a home network using a Netgear WNDR3800 router. It was BD TS 2012 , as soon as I removed it , pages started to load... Two weeks and my wife couldn't get onto her FB page. I did numerous tweaks and reboots to fix the problem and nothing worked. I was beginning to tear my hair out. :( A security suite shouldn't be blocking your internet browsing but BS TS 2012 did. This was on default settings. I did not change anything. I have now installed KIS 2012 on the laptop and it is connecting to the internet just fine.

  • Christian, again, you're a class act, we're fortunate to have you here. :)

  • Hey Christian, I have used the uninstall tool and reinstalled using the link you provided and BD 2013 still needs to update multiple times a day.

At the moment I'm halfway through my trial and I was going to get a 3 year 5 license pack but there's two things holding me back

1- it doesn't update definitions without a reboot

2- there's no obvious pause function to allow troubleshooting and removing BD 2013 as a cause of a problem

Are either of these functions going to get fixed?

    Hello :)

Actually, in your case the situation is different: we released a new product update today and since you didn't have the old one installed, practically you received 2 product updates in the same day.

There are ways to turn off the protection by putting the On Access Scanner and Active Virus Control to off.

A feature request to pause the protection http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=36315 was posted already.

Let me know if you still encounter any issue after the second restart.

    Take care.
