Update Event Settings

Hope this isn't a repost, I tried searching but didn't find anything pertinent to what I am looking for. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, a clean installation of windows with just Firefox and Office 2007. I work with my laptop offline sometimes when trying to conserve battery power, or running a tune-up. Whenever I do, however, I keep getting event notifications that it failed. This has been happening continuously and I'm not sure how to get rid of the event notifications.

Anyone know how?

    Hello :)

    Welcome to the forums!

The update notifications can not be turned off, but have no worries, as soon as you connect to the internet, all the updates will be downloaded and those notifications will disappear.

    Thank you!

  • The notifications still show afterwards, and I have to constantly go in and delete them. Otherwise the notifications are constantly there, whether I have updated or not.

    Hello :)

Actually this is a safety mechanism. In this way you can find out what happened with the product when you lost the connectivity or you were not in front of your PC.

    Take care.

I understand your security concern, but I find it a bit awkward.

I think it should be something like:

IF (no connection) THEN (BD don't worry for updates)

IF (no updates since one (?) day) THEN (warning message: your BD was not updated since one day)

  • I understand the safety mechanism, but I have to agree with Astromax.

    Hello :)

The Update Module is considered critical and that's why this method was chosen.

In this day, for an antivirus is critical to be constantly connected to cloud and the update servers.

    Take care.

    I have 3 PCs running BD 2013, build 16.22.00.1534.

One of theses PCs is a laptop that my wife uses. There can be days when this laptop is not turned on at all.

Today BD on this laptop has the following event/issue:

"Fix" tick box "No update has been performed in the last 1 day(s) Status: Not started.

Why does BD not start the update automatically every time the PC is turned on?

  • I understand your security concern, but I find it a bit awkward.

I also agree with AstroMax's idea. If the internet connection is not active then I get too many notifications, which is almost as bad as not getting enough notifications.

Is it this kind of "problem" you are facing? Started for 3-4 days ago with "12 Events" and for the present increased to 18...........

Virus Scan (17)- Active Virus Control - Vulnerability (1)

    Hello everybody, including Christian -_-

It seems that my problem is solved today, after that the amount of events went up to 20.

    The Antivirus showed :

    Not scanned for 4 days
, I performed a Quick Scan and when finished it showed now :
    Not scanned for 2 days
   <img class=" /> and still 19 events.

The Vulnerability showed: 1 event and the :

Vulnerability scan completed successfully . An update for Java SE Runtime Environment was found
    .

But now compared to yesterday, I could click on Update now. After the update of Java, went back to the Event windows and now the 2 options:

    Mark all as read
    and
    Delete all
were available. After clicking on Mark... the red event number disapeared . Hurrah.

But as a "non expert", I can't say if the 2 isuues were related and that my "action" removed the "bugs".

I should maybe add that all the time the Bitdefender shield was stating:

You are currently protected . There are no issue to fix.

    Crossing fingers.

  • Hello :)

A product update was released. Your build should be 16.23.0.1637(please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).

In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

    Changelog:

Let me know if the situation is solved.

    Have a nice day.

Looking for a issue same as above came on this thread and it looks like very old issue. I am using BD Total Security ver 17.16.0.729 and still the same problem since ver 16+ (from above post). I agreed with the suggesion that there must be a setting regarding Events fitring. It has to depend on user which event notifications has to appear on Security Widget. Hope that BD developers should hear us

  • Hope someone still reads this thread.

I see the same problems mentioned in posts #3 and #8: When offline I get the unnecessary warning about outstanding updates. But when online again automatic updates dont resume.

Can anybody explain why Bitdefender doesn't resume updates by itself?

The answer of Christian in Post #7 is very onesided: "The Update Module is considered critical ..." True, but if travelling frequently and abroad it is difficult to stay connected in all places. And it is much more critical to rely on user interaction to start updates again. I know that I have no internet and Bitdefender does not need to tell me and bother me with user interaction.

The situation is even worse because in Laptop-Mode there is no visible indication that updates are stopped: The widget might be covered by other windows and the task bar icon gives no indication either.

    Very unfortunate decisions.
