Windows Updates Stopped By Bitdefender?

Suddenly & for no apparent reason Windows cannot update. I have checked everything and can find no reason for the sudden change. Is it possible that the BD firewall is somehow preventing windows updates? When I search for help the reasons seem to be a "permissions" issue. I have double checked all th eusual stuff and still no change/no update. I'm using Vista 32 bit. Anyone got any ideas if BD could be involved?

    Christian,

Thanks for your response. (I'll assume that it wasn't just a sales pitch!). I did everything you suggested and ---- it didn't work! To be fair initially I got a different error message ie 800772EFD, but after a second attempt it reverted back to 80070005. Now I have BD IS 2013 and am no further forward. One good point of 2013 is that it nows tells me that I need to download a critical windows update!!

It may well be that BD is not the problem, but if it is & I want to add a "safe" web address (microsoft) to my firewall how do I do it?

  • Hello :)

All Microsoft servers are whitelisted, so there is not need to make any adjustments.

Please try to use this tool to reset all Windows Update components:

    take care.

    Christian,

Thanks for the reply re M.soft servers. Re the link youhave suggested, I have tried it a few times without success. It runs it's routine and then tells me it has been fixed. Wrong! it still will not work. From your reply I am assuming that I need to look elsewhere, unless you can think of BD reason? By the way, back to my earlier request, How do you add web sites to a safe/white list on BDIS 2013?

    Thanks

You don't need to exclude a website in the product. If you encounter any False Positives, you can report them directly here:

    Christian,

Thanks for your suggestion, I had not found that one.

I have tried it and it hasn't worked. It looks like the BD firewall stops the exe file and even after I allow it nothing happens. This I find strange given that you have previously advised me that all microsoft servers are whitelisted, something not right? I've posted on false positives as you requested. I would lov e to know if BD is the issue or not.

    Cheers

  • Hello,

I will run some tests and get back to you soon.

    Take care.

    Christian,

After re installing BD (because Safe pay wasn't there)I got the link/download you suggested above to run and install (kb 947821)

It didn't solve the windows update problem though.

    Cheers

    Hello Christian,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already tried it, & have tried again in case. Everything was OK the message was "Windows resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". I've tried everything I reckon is in my (limited) capablity to fix this. Is it possible that BD may be stopping the updates?

    Cheers

  • Hello :)

Could you please also use this software?

It will reset all things to defaults and recreate the permissions for the registry keys.

    Christian,

What ever you are being paid, ask your employer for much more. Thanks for perservering with what may not have been a BD issue. The tweaking tool seems to have worked. Although it took 2 attempts for some reason. I'm still wondering about BD involvement though. This is the sequence of events. 1) ran Tweak 2nd time & Restarted PC 2) Win updates auto search started (took long time as all the history seems to have been zeroed). It eventually turned up 2 critical updates which it downloaded but did not install even after being told to by me. 3) At this point BD notified me of a vunerability issue. 4) This was that 2 critical win updates need installing. I followed BD requirements to install, BD then advised they were installed. 5) At which point the windows installed kicked in and installed the updates in the usual windows fashion.

Question is:-Does this mean that BD may have been preventing Win updates somehow? Why did the Win updates stop after downloding and not install until after BD said it had done the same thing? Does BD actually install windows updates, or just allow Win to do it's usual thing?

    Hello :)

On your system the issue was related to some permissions for several folders and registry keys.

When Bitdefender is installing Windows Updates, all the operation are made in background and the progress is listed in the window.

    Take care.

  • I have the same issue and found a single fix. Just turn off BD firewall during check for and install updates. This is not acceptable for such class software especially when it pretend to be #1!
