Update Reboot Blues

Yesterday I received update to build No. 16.23.0.1637. Since then I have had to reboot my computer 8 times. It seems that everytime BD checks for updates, a reboot is required. Really guys, there must be a better way.

I have the same build number and absolutely incessant demands to reboot for several days. Can you PLEASE fix this issue that appears to be plaguing the entire Bitdefender client base!

  • Hi :)

Please follow the steps explained in the article below and send me via PM the generated log file:

Having the same issues here, seems every time I check events 'Updates' is asking for a reboot, surely this can be fixed at Bitdefenders end without the consumer having to stuff around trying suggested fixes and sending logs back to Bitdefender, don't have time for all this.

I am just ignoring the requests now and am doing one reboot of a morning and that is it, sick of it.

  • Same issue for a few days now, I sent a log, hopefully we'll see a resolution of some sort.

  • This has been an irritating and recurring problem since BD2013 was launched. It is way beyond time that it was sorted out. Un-installing and re-installing the product (which is the usual solution) is getting beyond a joke for a package which is supposedly silent and in the background.

    Hello :)

As you can see, in the last 3 days we released several product updates.

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=162888

    @ tclarson720

In your case, the last product update released was not installed and is pending.

Please reboot your PC and after it should all be just OK.

    Take care.

  • Sorry for no reply yesterday Christian, but yes, actually, it quit yesterday, ha!! I did actually reboot from the program, wasn't sure if that would matter, but in my case, situation resolved.

Having the same problem. Came here to find out if there was a fix. New build downloaded today and so far no request for reboot! Hooray! Forums work!

I take it back, asking for reboot again? My build is 16.23.0.1637 is this still the latest?

Having just completed an update, here is where I'm at:

    latestbuild111012.jpg

Haven't had a reboot request for awhile.

  • I thought this constant rebooting after updates had finally settled down, but I was wrong the past few days have been a pain, every time I check events it says reboot required, I have done 3 reboots today and the day is only half over. Doubt if I will renew my subscription next time around if this continues.

  • I am still continually getting 'Reboot required' after almost every update, do I have a problem at my end or is there some sort of major update happening that requires constant rebooting. I may get a few updates that don't ask for a reboot but it seems the majority ask for a reboot. Is this normal or do I have a problem this end?

  • I have the problem too! I have so far rebooted 12 times over the last day and a half.

  • I'm getting exactly the same issue, just seems to have started.

Same here..started a couple days ago...as far as I know...I have the current Build

    Hello everyone :)

    @ Firecapt

I've looked over the logs and I can see 2 files that can not be replaced during startup:

    bdimencrui.dll.upd and remotemanagemental.dll.upd both located in C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2013.

In the current situation we recommend you to reboot in Safe Mode http://www.bitdefender.com/support/How-do-...-Mode-1022.html and delete these too files:

    C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2013\bdimencrui.dll and C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2013\remotemanagemental.dll

Now rename bdimencrui.dll.upd and remotemanagemental.dll.upd to bdimencrui.dll and remotemanagemental.dll and reboot the PC.

Everything should be back to normal.

    Thank you!

  • Thanks Christian but I "fixed" the problem prior to your answer by uninstalling BD then reinstalling. This solved the update issue but the right click problem with the USB thumb drives still remains. I used your temporary fix for this and that solved the problem for the time being.

Also, I must still keep my On-Access Scanning set to Normal or it causes major slow-down/crash issues with Windows Explorer.

  • Here we go again!! 4 reboots today so far.

hello, in order to get more information about the issue you are experiencing please do the following:

    - download Process Monitor from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb896645.aspx

    - extract the archive and run it

    - reproduce the issue (click on Update now)

    - press Ctrl+E into Process Monitor (so the capture process is stopped)

    - save the file (goto File - Save... in Process Monitor and select the file Path for the file to be saved eg. Desktop; it will generate a file LogFile.PML)

    - reboot

    - mark as read all the events in update

    - try to reproduce the issue

If the issue reproduces please PM me with the file.

    Thank you.

  • Hello :)

After analyzing the information we received from you we concluded that the most convenient way to fix the issue you reported is to use the Repair feature from Bitdefender. Please follow the steps below in order to start the repairing process:

    - Click on the START menu button;

    - Go to (All) Programs -> Bitdefender 2013 -> choose "Repair or Remove";

    - Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer each time you are requested to;

    - Register and activate the product, then open Bitdefender and run a new update; reboot again if requested;

A product update was released and it will be installed on your machine in maximum 24 hours. Your build should be 16.25.0.1710 (please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).

In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Have a great day!

  • New build = more reboot blues!!!! Why has every build update resulted in constant requests to reboot to replace all files. I have a clean install of windows 7 64bit with no previous AV etc but still the reboot blues persist!!

I have yet to have a new build without this really bugging problem...... 1 reboot yes but not 10 or more!? I hope 2014 deals with this else I wont renew!

Since the past week I have been having the same problem. Each day there is a request to reboot in order to complete an update. What's going on?

  • I've carried out 3 re-boot_s so far and am being prompted to do another. Really, for a company that's meant to be a market leader in security software, this is pretty poor. So, I now need to go into Safe Mode etc. do I? No wonder Kaspersky tops protection polls - no such problems. Come on guys, get your act together.

    Hello all,

The issue reported on this topic is solved since build version 16.25.0.1710.

If you are using the latest build version 16.28.0.1798, but Bitdefender still prompts you to reboot Windows multiple times a day, it means that the product could not replace an older file. That's why you receive the reboot prompt. To further investigate this case, please post here a support tool log:

Once again, repeated prompts for reboots. Ridiculous. I went through the Repair BD process about three weeks ago and here we are yet again with the same issue. I thought Bitdefender was meant to be one of the top packages around. More fool me.

I have the exact same problem. I am running build 16.28.0.1789.

I had to perform a repair after the update due to daily prompts for a reboot which seemed to work.

The reboot prompts have restarted over the past few days, it occours about 1 hour after booting up the PC.

I have run the support tool and attach the link.

I'd be grateful for advice before I run another repair.

    Otherwise the software performs well.

I had a multiple reboot situation after the update of BD W8 Security to 1789. I just followed the directions and kept rebooting maybe three tims max before it went away. It has not returned since. Multiple reboots can happen with any major product update. I have had Windows updates require as many as thee restarts before finishing.

I am not saying there is not a problem. What I am saying is that there may not be.

While I agree that an update might require a reboot or two, I am on my 8th reboot in 2 days!!!

This is an ongoing problem, rarely responded to here by BD staff, and should have been repaired long ago.

For a company that prides itself on having a program that works in the background, not requiring any input from the user, and maintaining as low a profile as possible, this should not be part of their ongoing paradigm.

My Brother just purchased a new computer and asked me (among other things) about a security program I would recommend. I would have liked to recommend BD but in my one year of using the program I have encountered one problem after another. I explained what I had encountered with BD and suggested he check with other programs before making a decision.

Most of the problems have eventually been corrected, but the update reboot problem isn't one of them. <img class=" />

  • Last days, frequently updated smart database, the update requires a reboot, but this update occurred only twice, for these days.

Cleaning some malware requires a restart of your computer. Not saying that this is what is happening in your case but it is a possibility. You could have a nasty piece of malware that is difficult to clean like maybe a rootkit. Have you tried running a full scan since the multiple reboot situation occurred?

The other possibility is that you have some remnants of another AV program on your computer. AV program remnants have been known to cause all kinds of things to happen with the currently intalled AV product.

If you have not already done so you could try downloading the current version of the installer file and running it. Click on "repair" and let it finish its install. Sometimes UI updates are not as clean as runnning a repair from the current installer file.

Every single day at some point I am asked to reboot after an update. If however I go to the Update Events window and merely click on the update in question (in Event Details it says 'Update requires a system reboot to replace all files') the reboot warning goes away. I did a repair reinstallation but to no avail.

This is a bug has been going on for long enough for you to have got a handle on it by now. Everything else about Bitdefender is OK, but this one continuing problem is casting a pall over its excellence.

Same here, lost count of reboots yesterday, turned PC off last night with a reboot still hanging waiting to be done, fired it up this morning and thought good that has been done only to walk past PC 10 minutes later to find BD is asking for another reboot.

It did this several months back then settled down but the problem seems to have cropped up again.

Another odd thing I have noticed if I ignore the reboot request it still remains in the events list but the next 3 or 4 updates say successful. I am over chasing this problem, sick of uninstall, repair, saving logs etc, I think I will just ignore the requests and maybe do one reboot when I turn off the PC at the end of the day. It is something that needs fixing from BD end not the consumer chasing it all the time.

Well I ran a repair and that seems to have fixed things for the time being at least. The nuisance part is that you lose all your settings every time you reinstall or repair. I have a lot of bookmarks in safepay, that kind of thing. Another thing that seems to happen right after the initial install is that the autoscan starts to scan and there is no way of stopping it short of rebooting the computer. I think that might be a Windows 8 thing. On the lighter side, when the autoscan is working properly, and the computer has been idle for awhile, a message will appear stating that 'Bitdefender has started the autoscan process. For more information click on the moving taskbar icon.' Of course as soon as you move the mouse the autoscan stops and the icons disappear. Someone at Bitdefender has a sense of humour.

I'm on my 9th reboot in two days

  • So my license with Kaspersky is about to expire, the only reason I had it was because 12 months ago I was trialling BD and had the update reboot issues. A good anti-virus you shouldn't notice but when you choose to scan it comes up clean.

BD remains to intrusive and based in this thread the product still isn't refined enough for everyone. I installed it and was going to trial it and then saw this thread. Back to Kaspersky I go, it's a real shame, you've got some great qualities BD.

This thread relates to the old 2013 product range. The New Bitdefender forum is the one you should be reading if you want to find out what current issues are.

Indeed, to start with too I had the restart problem. It was resolved though by running the removal tools for 2013 and The New Bitdefender in Windows safe mode. Now any time I get a restart notification, the updates actually go through okay and I don't get asked repeatedly for restarts.

So from experience I can say it isn't so much of an issue with the new version once leftovers have been sorted.
