Active Virus Control Turning Off

With BD Internet Security 2013, the Active Virus Control on/off switch has greyed out and flashes "ON" when clicked. The AVC will not stay on. I have reinstalled after an uninstall along with BD removers (2). After the reinstall, the switch works, allowing the protection to be active. However, after a few days, the switch is in the "OFF" position, and will not turn on, only greyed out. Any ideas? Thanks,

Hi rod help, and welcome :)

What OS is BD installed on, Windows 8, or 7?

I know this sounds like s rote answer, but, try running a repair, and post back if that helped or not. It should show the current build being: 16.25.0.1710 http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35499

    Thank you,

    Columbo

  • Columbo,

Thank you for the quick response!

The OS is Windows 7 (HP), the BD current build is: 16.25.0.1710. The "repair" feature in BD, run both as administrator and user did not fix the issue. THE AVC is acting the same.

    Thanks,

  • Hi again rod help,

Your welcome for the help, sorry it didn't resolve it for you. Unless someone else here knows a solution or has another idea for this issue, you may need to wait for Christian here to read a collected log file, or you can submit one using the support tool to Customer Support via BD Console/Help Support/Contact Support/. You can also try this link: http://www.bitdefender.com/support/contact-us.html

    Kind regards,

  • Columbo,

Again, thank you very much. I sure it is a stupid simple fix, but I haven't come across it yet.

    Thanks,

  • You're welcome :) I know what you mean, as it was working for a couple of days there, that's why I thought to try the simple fix first. Thanks for your patient attitude :)

  • Just a thought. Did you previously have another security solution, and use their uninstall tool, and check for any leftover files and registry keys?

  • Columbo,

Yes, MSE. It was uninstalled with the uninstall program, and checked the "MS fix it" program prior to the first of two installs, and one BD repair. No registry traces were found by the "MS fix it" program. CCleaner also failed to locate any registry strays from MSE.

    Thanks,

  • Excellent, you did nice work there, friend :) Thanks for posting back, as that info. could also be helpful to Christian, and others here.

  • Reinstalled BD, after uninstall with BD2013_Uninstall_Tool.exe and BitDefender_Uninstall_Tool.exe. Worked fine for a day. Thought it might be CCleaner (3.26.1888) which wanted to removed the following files - setupapi.app.log, setupapi.dev.log, setupact.log, setuperr.log. Had already excluded the following folders from CCleaner -C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bitdefender\ and C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\, but the files found by CCleaner reside in the Windows folder. I'm not sure if they have anything to do with BD, but I did not allow CCleaner to remove anything. After one day, BD AVC shows the switch in the "OFF" position, but I can move it to the "ON" position. As soon as I exit the AntiVirus control window, then reopen the window, the AVC is OFF. Regardless of how many times I open, place AVC to ON, the AVC shows OFF when I reopen the AV window.

  • After two days from fresh install, AVC turned itself off daily, and is now greyed out, not able to move the switch to the ON position. Will be moving on to something else. Hopeful that the BD development team figures out the problem for my future consideration. Thanks again to Columbo for his assistance.

  • Go into Windows Services and make sure that the appropriate Bitdefender programs are set to "Automatic" This may or may not be the reason for the problem but it is worth a check.

  • Nesivos, thank you. I checked windows services and everything associated w/BD was auto. I appreciate Columbo and your imput into my issue, however, I have moved on to KIS at this time. It was bothersome to uninstall and reinstall the program every two days. I hope the BD development team resolves this and other issues I have noted on this forum site. Maybe 2014 will be the year! I've always heard good things about BD and it comes recommended by my IT associates. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for posting back, rod help, and you're kind words, for the little I did to try to help, you're welcome :)

With all the changes, the 2013 version, Mybitdefender, Windows 8 and compatibility with it and creating Bitdefender Windows 8 Security...hopefully things will settle down for them in those regards.

    Keep in touch :)
