Hello zaythe & Lapwing and welcome to the forum,
I think both of you need to perform a clean re-install!
Probably after that everything will be OK with your "Auto update" and "Autopilot" features.
1). Download and run Uninstall Tool 2013 (run as administrator & restart your PC when you finish).
2). Download Ccleaner from here (select clean registry mode and clean only Bitdefender registry keys & restart your PC when you finish).
3). Download and save at your usual location Full Offline Kit from here and run as administrator, when you get popup to accept the latest updates choose NO.
4). When you get an option to choose purchase or evaluation version, choose purchase and then set your license key.
5). After that, follow the simple steps until the installation not totally completed...

If you wanted to try to run a repair first before before doing a complete re-install, it may be worth the try, nothing to lose http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35489
