[solved] Bitdefender Corrupts Most Of My Exe-downloads

Options

Hi.

I've just installed the trial of Bitdefender Antivirus 2013.

I come from a clean machine that was regularly scanned by AntiVir Free and Malwarebytes and including combofix.

But I got irritated by all those popups from the free version of Antivir. So I installed Bitdefender because I saw it got pretty good results from the latest AV-test from Germany.

Anyways..

I installed Bitdefender and continued as normal.

But the next few times I was downloading updates for my games (C.A.R.S Projekt, Dawn of Fantasy etc) in exe-format.. they all got corrupted.

Is this normal ? I did not experience those errors/corruptions with AntiVir.

Btw I have a Support Tool Log ready if requested.

  • I have the same issue, downloads got corrupted so i replaced ram, drives, etc..

    Removing Bitdefender solves my download issue.

    This needs to be fixed, this software corrupts my downloads. :(

    Download example, 310.70-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international.exe (Latest NVidia drivers)

    209 MB (220,192,352 bytes) Without Bitdefender

    209 MB (220,195,272 bytes) With bitdefender

    seems like bitdefender is poking around in the exe's and making a mess.

    Hello :)

    Please tell me, do you have the On Access Scanner set to Aggressive?

    Thank you!

  • Hello Christian

    I have the same problem and I'm using the default settings. These problem does also occur on different filetypes, I'm experiencing it especially wiht ISO files. In addition, flash videos are getting corrupted (the video displays only a green screen and skips to the end), especially using chrome as browser.

    The recent update made the problem with the videos occur a bit less, but didn't solved it. I've been in touch with the german support mainly about the video problem, but the only help by now is that they could reproduce the problem. I'm currently trying if the "disabled" bdtl.dll file (rename it in windows safe mode and manually updating only signatures) solves the problem, it at least does for the videos.

  • Same on my side, default settings, reinstalled many times but exe, iso get corrupt.

    Also i had many crashes of the game Natural Selection 2 (and some other games) and noticed that crashed did not occur when Bitdefender was uninstalled.

    Antivirus should prevent issues, but since the last few updates i'm having many issue's.

    Many files got corrupted during downloading and made a big mess on my system. <img class=" />

    Now i think of it, i'm using Steam and game crashes are probably caused by Bitdefender corrupting updates that download.

    When i press the check file button in steam it finds Inconsistencies and re-downloads them.

    I've replaced RAM, SSD, HDD PSU, Router, Modem.. only thing that solves my issue is uninstalling Bitdefender.

    Please help..

    Will post system specs later today

  • My system is a Intel I7 3770K, 16GB RAM , Z77A-GD65 Mobo.

    Went ahead and tested some trial version of other antivirus products and they seem to work just fine, no curruptions.

    Something is not right with my Bitdefender installation, have it uninstalled now and all runs good.

  • I face the same corrupted downloads issue. I'm pretty sure it's thx to great traffic scan. Once again I have to put bdtl.dll into trash. :[

  • same problem here, all my downloads are corrupted since i installed BD2013. any patch!!!

  • After reading these post I am glad to see I am not alone but kind of mad this is an issue for the 2013 edition.

    My issue is any thing not standard like an executable file will crash on attempt to install.

    I get some free software and games from Give away of the day and there other sight game give away.

    But as soon as I installed Bitdefender 2013 I can not install any thing from those sights.

    I can down load and extract the files contained in the zip files, but that's it.

    Re-downloading the files to a different folder or drive has no effect, as well as a diffident install path.

    I have a steam account and so far nothing has effected that as of yet.

    The worst part is I just put this on 3 computes yesterday December 22 2012.

    The most curious thing though is that I never logged in to the cloud through the program when I installed it on 1 PC and I have not had any issues on that machine.

    I have used McAfee in the past, not as good a product but not the problems either.

    looking for a refund then some thing else less unstable

  • Same problem here.

    Since more less 1 month I was crazy thinking that Google Chrome is the cause of the problem.

    After bricking a router due corrupted download (many thanks Bitdefender!) I look the problem into more detail.

    All the isos and other kind of files I donwload are corrupt.

    I disable live scanning and now all is ok.

    Many thanks for bricking my router, now.... fix the problem!

  • same problem here, all my downloads are corrupted since i installed BD2013. any patch!!!

    un-installed BD2013, and my problem is fixed. no more corrupted downloads

    If we remove completely the antivirus before your post (like me) what are the steps to do?

    I search on internet about the 16.25.0.1710 version and is released 12/12/2012. If it was released on that date how we can have that problem on 12/25/2012??

    Before installing bitfendender I download an ISO of ubuntu, the correct hash (source: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes) is: b4191c1d1d6fdf358c154f8bf86b97dd

    Without Bitfender installed: Hash: ok, the same.

    With Bitfedender: 8646120f1955831be9586a92329161ce

    The same as before....

    Same problem, not fixed. Very bad.

    When will be a real fix??

  • Hello :) ,

    First, please accept our apologies for the encountered situation; we are working on finding the culprit of this issue and the solution, but at the same time, I would like to receive specific information from you so the situation would be handled faster.

    For the current issue I would like you to check if you have the KB2735855 Windows Update installed on your system; this update applies only to Windows 7, so I will need this information only from users of this OS.

    To find out go to Start > in the Search bar type View installed updates and hit Enter > wait for the list to be populated, then search for the specified update (KB2735855).

    If it is installed on your system, please remove it (select it and click on the Uninstall button) and, without rebooting the computer (if you have Automatic Updates ON), check if you are able to complete the downloads successfully.

    Please let me know the result of this, and afterwards, you can install the Windows Update back on.

    I have to do more test, I remember that the problems go away when I completely uninstall bitdefender...., but im quite tired of install / uninstall and also worried with license issues if I do that a lot of times. I wait for feedback of you in case you need more test before uninstall bitdefender.

    Seems that is a Chrome issue (or related with Chrome)...

    Hello again,

    I completely uninstall bitdefender and now google chrome don't corrupt the downloads.

    I have a 3 license version and I have installed it on two computers (windows 7 x64) on both I have Issues with the downloads, the same problem. Im sure that can be easy to reproduce the problem on Bitdefender labs.

    Please Bitdefender, stop gaining time asking for test and give updated information about the issue, how are you trying to fix it or anything else. Your antivirus software is working like a virus corrupting the downloads, I think is a critical issue that is not being addressed like a critical one....

    Im sorry to say this, but this is totally unacceptable.

    Also I think that the better thing that bitdefender can do with us is to refund the license price, no fix? full refund. Is easy. So, Adriana, could you escalate this thread to your manager, please?

  • I too am having problems with corrupted downloads. I am very disappointed having used Bitdefender for some time with no problems. I have 9 licences but I am having to use a competitor's antivirus instead. The lack of a solution for this is just not good enough.

  • more than a month has passed and no solution <img class=" />

  • No info.

    No update.

    First and last Bitdefender license I buy :\

    it's very easy to reproduce the bug, and also I think that anyone will get angry if Bitdefender write here that have no idea how ti fix the problem and that need more time, this bug is with us more than a month ago so a little more time is ok, but instead of that silence....

    Not good support :(

  • Nothing from Adriana S. in 8 days. As so many users have this issue it must be very easy to replicate and resolve. Just how many people have Bitdefender got working on this.

  • Hello again,

    another day with no answer.

    Nice work, support ;)

  • Spanish support send me this, in my case the fix works, but I don't know the side effect... also I search and this fix is the same one of one similar bug of older bitdefender products.

    Here is the fix they send me:

    Please follow the steps from below in order to try to solve the encountered issue:

    - First of all restart the computer in Safe Mode.;

    - Browse to: C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2013;

    - Locate the file: 'update_components.xml';

    - Right click on it and select 'Edit' or select 'Open with' and then 'Wordpad' from the list;

    - Once the file is opened, look for the '<Product enabled="1"' string;

    - Replace the '1' number with '0';

    - Locate file 'bdtl.dll' and rename it into 'bdt.dl_';

    - Restart the computer in Normal mode;

    - After restart check to see if the file 'bdtl.dll' has been replaced or still exist as renamed ('bdt.dl_');

    - If the file is still renamed test to see if the issue is resolved.

    [How to restart Windows in Safe Mode]

    - Restart the computer (Windows Start button - Turn Off - Restart);

    - Press the 'F8' key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press 'F8' until you will be displayed a text menu;

    - Select 'SAFE MODE' in the text menu and press 'Enter'.

    - Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click 'OK' to acknowledge.

    I am waiting for your answer with the results of the above steps.

  • Is this happening on Windows 8?

  • Is this happening on Windows 8?

    I don't have windows 8 to try, but on Windows 7 I have the issue on all of the ones we have.

  • This product is a piece of crap; it corrupts many downloads by identifying harmless files as trojans and auto deleting them! Don't hold your breath waiting for any responses from Bit Defender... how can they respond when they can't fix the unfixable?

  • I think i got the solution:

    (got the German version, so im not sure if my translations of the menus are correct)

    - Go to the Antivirus Settings

    - Click User-Defined

    - Go to the "Traffic-Scan" Tab

    - Disable HTTP-Traffic Scan

    - Enjoy

  • Solution, uninstall Bitdefender from all your systems.

    Never Buy again.

    I have 3 licenses and ended up uninstalling the software from all computers due to download issues, crashing games.

    Back to mcAfee i gues....

    Hello everyone!

    This issue has already been acknowledged by the Bitdefender team and they are currently working on a fix, which will be implemented through automatic update of the product. Until then, please follow the temporary workaround described by mrpolimero on Jan 25 2013, 08:37 PM.

    Hello,

    are you support member?? at least on your profile I can't see that you are from support.

    About the fix I paste: after doing that fix when the new version is released, what are the steps we need to do to revert bitdefender to "unhacked" situation?

    Will be noticed on this thread when the release is launch??

    Thanks

  • I have had 2 responses from customers services after emailing them regarding this issue. One telling me how to get Antivirus 2013 and another telling me how to install Antivirus 2013. No wonder there is a problem when they do not even read the emails sent to them.

    Hello everyone :)

    A product update was released. Your build should be 16.26.0.1739(please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).

    In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=173872

    Let me know if everything is OK after the reboot.

    Have a nice day.

  • Hello all,

    I reported the same problem to the german support-center about 2 weeks ago. Nothing did happen until today.

    I also phoned them - nothing.

    I tried to get any statement by some leading persons - nothing.

    I provided them very useful details (in my opinion) - nothing.

    The only answer i got was 'We are in contact with Microsoft'.

    ---------------

    I work with W7-64bit and Opera (both up-to-date).

    With corrupted (incomplete) downloads there are always missing exactly 1452 bytes (or multiples of this value). This value is well known as MTU!!!

    Here is a little workaround for those who really need to get a download completed:

    So I investigated a bit on my ethernet adapter settings (it's a Realtek PCIe family controller', which is very common used in many motherboards) and found a value called 'Jumbo-Rahmen' - this should translate to 'jumbo frame' or 'big frame' and defaults to 'Disabled'.

    I set this value to e. g. '9k MTU' (remember the term MTU!!!) and my download completed without any problems!

    BUT this does not work in all cases, so sometimes i have to change the value to e. g. '5k MTU' or whatever else to get the download. Switching between '7k MTU' and '5k MTU' often works, maybe because other values like 4, 6, 8 or 9 are multiples of 2 and 3).

    AND I stopped the download in Opera's download window just very close to 100% and restarted it - success! (I think this is caused by just re-requesting the last part and such invalidating the old transfer-buffer).

    AND i tried to download incomplete files with MS-IE (latest version) - incomlete also.

    I think the problem is caused by inproper TCPIP-buffer-handling, either by BitDefender or by Microsoft.

    -----------------

    I hope that some experienced people at BD will start working on this problem!

    In Germany the is a common word 'Als Letztes stirbt die Hoffnung.' which means 'Hope dies as last' (it's 'as' not 'at').

    Greetings!

    Good information.

    Spanish support is also low quality, on the spanish forum what support member have to say about this issue is... Have luck! ( http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...40003&st=0) seems that even support people don't trust so much on fixing the issue.

    I don't know with BD is not clear with this issue, I think is better to say the truth instead of silence and gaining time with new versions that don't fix the issue, I think that everyone could understand that a bug is not easy to fix, but silence, no help and no answer to mails is not a good policy.

    Also, we pay for a license and our product is useless, anyone of BD say to us, don't worry guys we will refund / give extra days to the license or whatever they want, instead of that silence.

  • Christian please tell us something.

  • This is an extract from an email received from Technical Support:-

    "We do understand your frustrating in regards to this matter and we are truly sorry for the amount of time you waited for a resolution on this. As I mentioned in my previous email this issue was now escalated to a higher department and I am going to personally contact each of the forum members that posted on that thread to ask for more details and logs that will help us to find a solution for this issue.

    One of the reasons we haven't done this so far was because we were working on a solution which we delivered in the latest update and we hoped that it will fix this situation. Since we've recently received feedback that the latest update did not fix it, we have to determine now what our customers encountering this issue have in common, then find the cause, reproduce it on our end and deliver a fix for it."

    Please post whether you have been contacted by Technical Support.

  • Hi,

    I would like to let you know that the testing team is still working on this situation, and, for the moment, we have found a possible solution in order for the issue to be solved; please install the Microsoft hotfix linked below and let us know if the issue persists:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2789397/en-us

  • Hi Adriana S.

    I've just installed the hotfix and it seems to work now.

    I was luckily able to download 2 previous corrupted files.

    Hope this is a solution (Microsofts description lets me believe because it exactly describes what I did watch on my machine...)

    Please inform your German support colleagues...

    Thanks for (hopefully) solving this problem after that long time!

    Greetings to other customers.
