Upgrade From Is 2010 To Is 2013 - Any Point?

Options

My license doesn't expire for another year and I am still running IS 2010 on a Windows 7 64bit machine. I have been trying to decide if I should upgrade to 2013 (or 2012 or 2011) and have been reading through the forums and I am wondering if there is any point based on problems that people seem to be having.

I use it for the Antivirus and the Firewall and don't really see anything in the newer versions that I would use. Is there any point to upgrading?

Is it any faster or more secure than the 2010 version?

Are there features that I really should be using in the new versions?

I'm worried it will cause more problems than it's worth although the forum will not likely have comments from people who have no problems whatsoever.

    Hello TheNit,

The signature and engine updates are provided equally for all versions. The only difference is for product updates (for 2010 you'll get 2010 upgrades, for 2013 you'll get 2013). But the basic security and detection rates are the same.

Apart from the fact that the 2013 suite brings lots of new features and improvements (Auto Pilot, Rescue Mode, SafePay, Social Networking protection, Scan Dispatcher, etc.), it will most likely solve any issues that you may have encountered with your previous Bitdefender product. I am currently having a problem doing a System Restore on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system. I get the error code 0X080070005 along with the message that there was a file access problem that was attributable to your Anti-Virus software. I have 2012 IS. I disabled real-time protection, left the anti-phishing on and the firewall on and the System Restore still failed. I read a thread on Techguy.org that had a person with the same problem and the only way he could resolve it (tried restore in safe mode and WinRE) was to uninstall Bitdefender 2012 completely. I'm assuming that this is my problem as well but I would like to know if this problem has been addressed by Bitdefender and the fix has been made in Bitdefender IS 2013.

I beleive I have to uninstall BDIS 2010 before installing BDIS2013 anyways but if it isn't fixed in the current version, I may have to choose another security package.

    Hello,

It's recommendable to perform System Restore in Safe Mode for a successful result.

Please read this Microsoft article about how Antivirus software and System Restore work together:

There are numerous threads in the Bitdefnder Forum where people have had this problem and Christian has told them to try it in safe mode. I have yet to find a case where this resolved the problem. Christian keeps saying that there will be a fix but I haven't found a thread where anyone has said that they were successful. Eve worse was a thread that says that Install Repair was prevented by BDIS as well. I am trying to resolve a problem with my Internet Explorer and it will either require a System Restore (hopefully) or System Repair. It seems that if I have BD installed, I can't fix my system. This is not good.

The following thread says that it is still not working as late as Feb, 2013. In another thred someone said that you could stop BD services, stop and restart System Restore and then it may work. The problem with start/stop of System Restore results in you losing all your previous Restore points which I can't afford to do because I'm trying to recover from a problem.

I received a post in another thread that resolved my System Restore issue. I would suggest when you say to run System Restore in safe mode, indicate that when the system restarts after the restore you must again go into safe mode for it to finish properly without BD interfering.
