Windows 8

What is going on? All your products state their windows 8 compatible yet you have put out a specific bitdefender windows 8 security? Are you trying to say the other Bitdefender products are not fully able to protect windows 8 systems??

  • Hi Jeff :)

This may be a chicken or the egg of which came first analogy.^_^ The 2013 versions came out before Windows 8, and therefore were "tweaked"/modified? to be able to run more smoothly on W8. With the pre and then public release of W8, Bitdefender created a Windows 8 version tailored for that OS, with these features implemented: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...f=312&id=54

I think they "made" the 2013 versions be more compatible with W8, whereas BD W8 is made specifically for that OS, which has been a pretty stable combination, overall.

Thanks for your reply. However I hope you can see where I am coming from, there is no product comparison between the 2 versions. Are all the 2013 total sec features, in the windows 8 specific version? Surely someone at bitdefender should have thought this might be a question people ask. 2 versions that work with windows 8 but one version that seems as you have stated, specifically for that OS. Why should one go for the specific version if it does not have all the total security features, doesn't make sense to me with no specific product comparison. And whilst I am on the soap box, what if you want the windows 8 specific version and also coverage for your smart phone, why not give some options on what you want with what or make the mobile version an feature on all versions?? You would thing someone with windows 8, this early in the OS's release would probably also have a fairly latest android smart phone???

Actually in Windows 8, Microsoft introduces a technology named ELAM (Early-Launch Anti-Malware System), which was introduced in the end of the last year, so instead of upgrading the current product line i.e. 2013, Bitdefender's developers introduced Windows 8 Security instead.

More info about ELAM is here

Ok, that starts to answer the question, but, waiting for someone to explain what features are missing in windows 8 security from total security 2013. It would appear from above that windows have a malware ELAM so why sacrifice some good features on 2013 total security for a different slant to ELAM, coverage already provided by Microsoft? And before someone says check out the windows 8 security user manual for features, back to square 1, the comparison tick, no tick of products is now widely used by software manufacturers and used by bitdefender, are great for working out which product will suit you, its just that you have left off some of your later products.....Or is it the fact that the comparison of the windows 8 version and total security 2013 will be too great in loss of features and the obvious choice for features will be 2013 total security?????

In a way, as per your other thread it was not not clearly shown by Bitdefender in their web site that Bitdefender W8 is the same feature wise as the 2013 Internet Security version, only with the added security feature ONT pointed out (ELAM), and that were listed in my above post link, #2. So, if you look at the comparison of 2013 IS, compared to the Total Security, that is what you would not have with BD W8 security, Anti-Theft, Safebox and Tune Up. http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/internet-security.html

If you want to add your name to the list on the link I gave in your other thread (Feature Request), you will see I linked to other peoples confusion of this as well, and it may nudge BD to clarify things a little better? Maybe they will modify, or make some changes to (all) the 2014 TS version?

Here is a thought on ELAM, that may help in general? http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=170644

Yes Columbo, you have answered my question and some. And I take it you are not in their employ, so shame on bitdefender for letting someone outside the company answer the question. I hope I replied on the right post, re adding my concerns at how they have done this. Very much looking like another rush job to get something into the market without developing it fully...... Lets hope they can get a 2014 W8 security program with all the features of their premier line 2013 total security, because as people find out the windows 8 isn't really all that nasty and they are also bitdefender users, they are going to want the W8 specific program to use, with all the bells and whistles.

    Hi Jeff :)

Glad you were helped. Sorry it took so long in getting around to answering your question...yet it came along with bonus information :D

Maybe if Bitdefender would consider redesigning the BD Windows 8 Security web page to include a tab, Product Features, as I've created below, would help alleviate some of the confusion of what the BD W8 version includes, compared to the 2013 Total Security version.
