Worm.win32.netsky

I have a desktop and a laptop with the same virus / symptoms. The first being a pop-up stating that I have the worm.Win32.NetSky and a Windows Security Alert pop-up "Windows has detected an Internet attact attempt..." There have been three icons placed on my desk top "Error Cleaner", "Privacy Protector" and "Spyware and Malware Protection" They cannot be deleted from my desktop. Lastly the browser self directs itself to different spyware removal sites.

I have done all of the steps suggested before posting the thread, except I was unable to run the online scan Bitdefender. I have attached to this thread the HijackThis log and the runkeys.txt and newfiles.txt.

Please help in getting this removed. Prior to the suggstions from Magorgeeks I ran SmitFraudFix and it seemed to remove the virus only temporarily.

Please help on what to do next so that I do not have to reformat!!

Thanks in advance

    I can't find any attachment.

I recommend that you download and install rogueremover. Normally the program after thet first start will ask you to download program or database updates download these by pressing on download. Wait till you get the message that there aren't any updates available press on close. Now click on scan. After that download superantispyware Install it double click on the shortcut now you will see an icon near you system clock which looks like a bug right click on it press on check for updates, once you have done that reboot your pc but press several times on the F8 button before the windows loading screen select safe mode press enter. Log in with your account. Start superantispyware by doing the same as for updating but now click on scan for adware,malware,... , scan, select complete scand and press on next. Reboot your pc again. Download and install hijack this. Start it and press on do a system scan and save a logfile and copy and paste the output into your next reply.

    Best regards

    Hi Niels.

I was searching for info on how to remove all that as I got the same problem and icons and some of my friends too around the same day. Weird.

This was the best way I found after trying a lot, and this is the log. I would appreciate any help with this.

Is it over yet? I am not very great with computers.

Thanks a lot in advance, and I apologize for posting on other's post, but I wanted to continue the same thread and see if you could help me. No obligation or rush. I appreciate your help nevertheless with the information above! Thanks

  • Hello FramesLL,

There are two very suspicious files in your log:

    O21 - SSODL: hjoqor - {1EF101D4-E2E6-471A-ADF1-46 B10F7B45EC} - C:\WINDOWS\hjoqor.dll
    O21 - SSODL: xcvwer - {1D0FE870-160E-40F7-8217-3E AB56DBD8ED} - C:\WINDOWS\xcvwer.dll

Searching on Google only brings up that these files are related to MyGeek/CPVFeed, which has the effects that you describe in your first post. I suggest you fix these two lines.

But let me ask you a favor: before fixing the two lines (and thus deleting the files), please put them in a ZIP file, protected by the password infected and attach the archive to your next post. This way, a BD Virus Analyst will take a look at them and detection will be added to BitDefender for this malware.

Note that these files might be hidden. To make them visible, do this:

    1. In Explorer, click Tools -> Folder Options... -> View

    2. Enable View hidden files and folder

    3. Disable Hide protected operating system files

    4. Click OK as many times as needed.

    Cris.

  • Hello,

please send those two suspicious files. Thank you!

    regards,

    Marius Botis

  • Hi

Hope it's OK joining this thread, but I too have had this infection and am struggling to remove it. The HijackThis log shows the same 2 suspect files as highlighted in Cris's post:

I've tried deleted these (using the "Fix checked"), but the problem is they keep re-appearing after re-booting. I'm not sure I really understand how these virus's stay around, but maybe they're in the registry and/or the system restore?

    Any further ideas greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Will

  • I think I may have removed it ....

I ran RogueRemover repeatedly when logged in as the different windows users on the machine; eventually the two files, hjoqor.dll and xcvwer.dll and their registry entries, have gone i.e. don't reappear on re-boot.
