By the way, I tried to send Georgia and Christian a PM to ask them something separate from this, and received a message saying that they couldn't be sent any messages...or something along those lines. Anybody know what is up with that??? :unsure:

I didn't see you original post There are times when a bigger downloaded file that has been scanned, or that it is a disc that I know is reputable, that I disable BD (and in the past other AVs) just to make sure the install goes unhindered. So I can't tell you concerning the initial install issue, but on an uninstall, you can leave the AV on, but disable it on the known good install of Microsoft Office.

As far as the message couldn't be sent notification, that means their inbox is full, and can't receive any new messages.

P.S. - can you or anyone recommend a good tutorial or thread that goes into detail as to what the recommended antivirus settings are? I'm afraid I've accidentally changed some of the settings, and I can't remember whether things like "Scan SSL" or "Data Protection", etc., etc. were "On" by default or not? :unsure:

For the AV, even though BD has the option to restore from quarantine, I would still set it to Move files to quarantine just to be sure it's not going to disinfect a known good file, in Actions.. go to, Settings-> Antivirus/Shield/On-access scanning/Custom->Actions->Move files to quarantine.

For the AVC (Active Virus Control) I would keep that at Normal, for this reason:

None of the above will work. Here's what to do, SportsFan...

1) Uninstall BitDefender

2) Call their Customer Service department to make sure they get you out of the Auto-Renewal SCAM, or else your credit card will be charged again in a year, without warning, at an undisclosed price.

3) Find a better Anti-Virus Software not run by a company with an F rating with the BBB (which is too generous in my opinion).

This company is a fraud and are running a scam and I feel it is my obligation to warn everyone so that they do not get unsolicited charges on their credit card.

Since you are using Antivirus Plus which don't have Firewall, but it does include Firewall filters as mentioned here

So try to disable option "Scan http traffic" and then see what happened.

Navigate to Antivirus > On-Access Scanning > Modify > Traffic Scan > Scan http traffic, just un-check it and verify if the issue persists.

I don't think this has been seen....so I just wanted to bump and emphasize it in a separate post. And ask a bit of a follow-up question as well.

Not only am I curious if SSL scanning should be enabled or disabled.....but can someone please explain what exactly it entails?

And regarding HTTP scanning....am I understanding correctly that if I am using a third party firewall other than Bitdefender.....like say, for example, Windows Firewall or Outpost Firewall Pro....something along those lines......should the HTTP scanning be disabled? And what exactly does having HTTP scanning enabled do for the antivirus portion? Is there a conflict if it is enabled for the AV?

And unfortunately there is no help or information is available for the option "Scan SSL connection" in the Bitdefender's help.

And for Scan http traffic option, from the manual :

"Scan options for e-mail, web and instant messaging traffic. To prevent malware from being downloaded to your computer, Bitdefender automatically scans the following malware entry points:

incoming and outgoing e-mails

web traffic

files received via Yahoo! Messenger

Scanning the web traffic may slow down web browsing a little, but it will block malware coming from the Internet, including drive-by downloads.

Though not recommended, you can disable e-mail, web or instant messaging antivirus scan to increase system performance. If you disable the corresponding scan options, the e-mails and files received or downloaded from the Internet will not be scanned, thus allowing infected files to be saved to your computer. And I am talking about the Firewall filters in Bitdefender Antivirus software for the option "Scan http Traffic" and my recommendation is to keep enable this option.

Your suggestion sounds as though keeping BOTH the "Scan HTTP" and "Scan SSL" options enabled....but to disable "Scan SSL" IF there is a problem that arises with a particular web site as a result of it being enabled.....is that correct?
