Bitdefender 2012 Firewall + Vmware Workstation 7 = Fail
When running VMware Workstation 7 with Ubuntu server 11.10 in "bridge" mode (giving the VM its own independent IP address on the network) I cant get Bitdefender 2012 firewall on my host PC to let any outside network return traffic though. I can ping every other host on the network but I cant get any pings back from outside unless I disable bitdefender 2012 firewall.
Running VMware in NAT mode (sharing the ip address with my host PC) works without disabling the firewall but I cant run Ubuntu server that way.
I have been messing around with the firewall settings for about an hour and am ready to dump it completely.
Help.....

I don't have this setup but thought I would give a suggestion.
Have you tried changing your network type and stealth settings? See attachment.
Maybe?
Network type = Home/office
stealth = remote0 -

Seems to me that -
Network type = Trusted
Stealth = Off
should work according to that pic
But I have tried basically every possible setting. I think its a bug with Bitdefender.
I can do a continuous ping to googles DNS server (8.8.8.8) from the Ubuntu server within VMware Workstation with Bitdefender turned OFF.... once I turn it on the pings start failing. Turn it back off and the continuous pings instantly start back up.
I have tried doing a continuous ping while changing firewall settings and nothing but shutting it totally off will get them rolling again.0 -
Hello
Welcome back.
For the current case, let do something.
I have here a special patch that will reinstall the firewall components and drivers for Bitdefender 2012.
Download and save following file to your desktop.
http://www.mediafire.com/?tmyqwm68j8id5nd
Do not run it!
Now, please reboot in Safe Mode.
[How to restart in SAFE MODE With Networking]
- Restart the computer;
- Press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu;
- Select "SAFE MODE With Networking"
If you have Windows Vista or 7, right click on the patch and choose Run as administrator. If not, just double click on it.
Wait for the process to finish and reboot the PC in Normal Mode.
Let me know if eve thing is OK now.
Take care.0 -

I have the same stup as Fauzi on Windows 7. My problem is exactly as capenola describes at the start of this thread.
Christian - I will generate the log file and send it to you as you instructed Fauzi to do.0 -

Working from home. I just installed Bit Defender 2015 Internet Security Suite. After the reboot Bridged Mode networking no longer works for my VMware Workstation 9 VM's. Forced to use NAt Mode which is a big problem for the way I work and the VPN connections I need to different data centers.
