Lost Bd Icon In System Tray And Slow-boot Up After Installation

Options

Hi! :) Yesterday, I installed Bitdefender (BD) for the 1st time (after I removed Microsoft Security Essentials).

Issue 1: now my system consistently sits longer at the "Welcome" screen of Windows (0.5 seconds with MSE to now 13 seconds with Bitdefender).

Issue 2: right after installing BD, a BD icon popped up in my system tray (a dark box with a large "B"). After rebooting and waiting unusually long for the system to move past the "Welcome" screen, the icon is missing. I already added the Bitdefender icon to "Show Icon and Notifications," but it is still missing. If you right-clicked it, it had "Show" and "About" as options. See image here:TxKqWij.png

Notes:

Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition - version 1.0.15.946

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Dell L702x laptop: i7-2670QM, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD

Bitdefender seems to be installed. I can open that little pop-up window (usually accessed by "Show" in the system tray icon) if I search for the program. gziface.exe is present in Task Manager. I have rebooted about 5 times, all with the slow loading and with the missing system tray icon. :(

Any ideas what went wrong?

I did a Repair Installation as well as a uninstall/re-install. Neither fixed it. :(

Common W7 problem. Even though its says show icon and notifications W7 does not always do this. Sometimes it takes two to three restarts to get the icon to show. Even then it could disappear at any time due to who knows what reason.

W8 is not quite as bad. Notificaton icons sometimes move off the taskbar and into the "show hidden icon area". Then they need to be dragged back onto the Windows Task Bar in the notification area.

Yup, the losing of tray icon is a common Windows 7 problem (specifically if you have so many tray icons). A log-off, log-on usually solve the problem for me.

As for the slow boot-up after installation, it never happened on me on the computers I installed Bitdefender Antivirus Free. It could be perhaps a conflict with another software?

FWIW, I had this issue on my XP's and the fix turned out that I needed to un-check the "Hide Inactive Icons" option in the task bars Properties. (Right click task bar / Properties / uncheck "Hide Inactive Icons / Apply)

Not sure whatvturned it on in the 1st place but in my case it only affected XP's and not W7's.
