Do you have 10 sec delay on boot with "Black screen with cursor" before Welcome screen (Windows 7 Pro x64) or this is just my PC. Product is BitDefender Internet Security

    This problem is now 2 or 3 years old, I removed BitDefender and i don't know what to do because my licence has 960 days to expire. They are totally unprofessional, because many users are complaining about "ghost traffic" for 2 years and they didn't fixed that and this problem is also old but they don't care. I don't want to lose my time on that product, because i lost almost a year on waiting to fix that bugs in 2013 version, what's enough is enough.

  • Same problem persist for me too.. If we complaint they will say please disable all start up programs this is what I am hearing from them..

    My marriage with BD (I'll wait for 2015 version :D) is over, I'm now on [...] and my PC finally working without boot delay, ghost traffic and other things which you get with BD. I have 3 year licence so i hope that they will fix that a I'll be back.

    You all might want to take a look at the free version of [...] The download is actually a full trial version but if you don't pay after 30 days it reverts to the free version with fewer features. Both the paid and free versions tell you how long each startup program is taking to load when you boot or restart.

    For example on one of my Ivy Bridge i5 W8 x64 computers booting under EUFI, total retart time shows as 2:34 (I have a lot of programs set to run at startup). BD W8 Security shows as taking 17.4 seconds to load. BD W8 Security is not the slowest loading program I have on that computer.

    Eliminating other apps from startup might reduce the BD W8 Security load time.

Again BD W8 Security does not take the longest time to load among my apps loading at startup.

    I have noticed a slight variation in load times for each restart.

    My OS is Windows 7 x64 SP1 not Windows 8. My problem is not "slow boot" in terms of slow loading startup programs (I have only 5 programs on startup, BD, Power ISO, Mouse software, Audio and Skype), problem is 10 sec black screen with cursor before Welcome screen. this problem is only with BD, Kaspersky and Avast working great. I have 2 PC's, one with Kaspersky and other one with BD(now Avast), because i wanted to compare best securities, and all I can say i that Kaspersky is miles away from BD. KIS is now little heavier but better overall. Sorry BD but you have same bugs for 3 years and it's a shame because this security have potential to be "the best". This is my subjective opinion but i think there are many people who agree with me.

    Sorry for my English :D

    I have never used Kaspersky except for their Resuce Disk and Free on-line scan. The Rescue Disk did no work and the on-line scan software was loaded with spam. However, I have a lot of respect for Eugene Kaspersky. He has pioneered some good anti-malware features.

    I used avast! for a couple of years beginning with v 5.x. 6.x AIS was good and 7.x AIS was buggy as all get out and the settings were way too many and way too complicated. The software became bloated with in my opinion mostly useless apps. Updates were horrible. I was forever reinstalling and repairing it especially after updates. Then two of my computers became taken over by trojans which avast! not only did not identify as malware but Superantispyware did. It was not a false postive based upon what was happening to my computer. That was end of it for avast!. I can not talk about avast! 8 as I have never used it.

    I have been using BD W8 Security for about five months and BD AV Free for about the same time period. I have had one problem which I was able to solve.

    Overall I find BD W8 Security to be a good anti-malware program. Easy to use, easey to update, not bloated with useless apps. No program is perfect but BD W8 Security works for me with minimal hassle and keeps my computers safe.

    Avast 8 will be good until they fix this bug because it's so annoying, I used 2012, 2013, and now 2014 with same bugs!! I'll be back again but i don't know when. It depends on BD team.

    If you have not already read this you might want to read the post on Windows 7 forum

    Windows 7: Startup delay with blank screen...

    Personally I think people are way too quick to blame an AV program for a problem when the problem is Windows related. I am not saying this is your computer's situation. However, when I used avast! I read their forum regularly like I do here. Many problems that people wrote about that they thought were avast! problems turned out to be Windows problem.s

    Good luck to you.

    Look, it's BD, when I removed this everything is back to normal (also working normal with Avast or Kaspersky). Almost every user of BD have this problem and this is end of story, they need to fix that! My Windows is in perfect condition, everything is defragmented. So this is BD, i have another HDD and I installed same Windows 7 without programs, after that I installed BD and same problem. My PC have new Quad-Core processor, fast HDD, 8 GB of RAM so it can't be a problem. And they need to work on their support because when you read user review's of BD, there are many negative comments about their poor support.

    Maybe when BD loads it is designed to leave the screen blank for part of the load time. Maybe BD loads before Windows loads so the screen goes blank for a while. As I posted earlier Soluto indicates it takes my Ivy Bridge i5 computers based upon the number of apps and services I have loading at startup about 20 seconds give or take to load Bitdefender. This is actually less time than it takes to load to Malwarebytes Pro and SAS Pro.

    In any case there are more possibilities for a computer having a blank screen for a period of time during the boot or restart process than just one app.

    The only two things that are important here are.

    1. That the computer does restart properly back to the desktop or Start Menu on W8 if you have it set up to do that.

    2. That the user is not unhappy about the total time it takes on a boot or restart before they can use their computer. Soluto can help you reduce this overall time.

    A temporary blank screen on boot or restart does not necessarily mean there is a problem much less one with a specific program. Even if the problem goes away when BD is uninstalled does not mean it is BD that caused the problem. BD could be working perfectly and it could be another app causes the problem during a scan of BD loading or it could even be a Windows issue the causes of which could be serveral.

  • What else can a man think of, just to excuse his choice... :rolleyes:

    Sorry, I uninstalled BitDefender for now and I'm using other solution, but as I said I'll be back again because my licence has 940 days left so I hope you will fix that soon. But thanks and all the best in fixing that, make your customers happy :) One mission is accomplished and this is performance, all I can say is that new BD is light on system so congratulation for that from my side.

    Is The BD Technician Joking??

    Hi Pushkar,

    Thank you for your interest in our security solution, Bitdefender.

    Regarding your issues, please be informed that from the analysis of your

    reports, we noticed that you have other security solutions or applications

    installed on your system, which could conflict with Bitdefender.

    Usually when you use more than one security solutions on the same computer,

    the system may become unstable. This happens because all security solutions

    try to scan a file whenever one is accessed but they cannot do it at the same

    time, so this causes either slowdowns or crashes. Therefore, we strongly

    advise you to remove the following program from your computer:

    - AVG PC TuneUp

    In order to correctly uninstall the before mentioned software, please go to

    their web sites and run the uninstall tool or follow their uninstall

    guidelines.

    All the security solutions perform their job based on a similar architecture;

    thus having two or more security solutions installed may lead to slowdowns or

    even serious system crashes (each security solution will scan each other

    before scanning the actual files that need protection). We strongly recommend

    keeping only one security solution installed on your computer. If you have

    more than one antivirus (antispyware, anti-adware, firewall) on your machine

    then the software will conflict causing system slowness or Windows/BitDefender

    crashes.

    Then please repair Bitdefender as follows:

    - Click on the START menu button

    - Go to All Programs -> BitDefender -> Repair or Remove

    - Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer each time you are

    requested to.

    I understand that having technical knowledge makes you doubt the instructions recommended by my colleague. From a customer's point of view I could see that the request may seem odd.

    But, as you can see from the subject of the topic, this issue was escalated to Bitdefender Testing team. When we do this, all logs we submit to them need to be clean for their analysis. Otherwise, the normal action of the software is not guaranteed and the test can fail. This means that the following apps released by other security companies need to go before the case get to the testing dept.:

    - tune-up/optimization tools

    - antivirus programs

    - http filtering bars or add-ons

    When we say security solutions, it's a generic term about any of the above programs.

    Bitdefender is a top company and we have the best experts. I really wish I won't have to give in-depth explanations again on the higher levels decisions.

    Please try to remove the program my colleague mentions and then reply with your results on your existing ticket ID: 201307111012553. Your feedback on the ticket is very important towards solving this issue.

    Thank you so much, we really appreciate your help!

    According to my info AVG PC TuneUp uses the same technologies of tune-up utilities and only the name is change and rest all functions are same as tune-up utilities which is also a well known company like bitdefender

  • Remove avg pc tuneup but problem persists.

    i send a new log file.

    now don't tell me to remove glary utilities otherwise i will say good bye to BD forever.

    Another problem is when I want to play Call of Duty 2 (yes I know it's old game but for me it's better than new versions) through Xfire, entering (black screen for about 1 min after that map is finally loading) is painfully slow even with free version of BD. When I tried another AV it opens immediately. I excluded whole COD2 folder from scanning and game is on "Game list".

    I have the latest build of BD Internet Security 2013 installed that is supposed to "fix"the problems of the older one. I tried the first build back in January and was not impressed. It was buggy, glitchy, slow, and ineffective (Firewall rules). Would have tossed it out, but had a two year license from a 2010 suite that was never used.

    Did a complete system rebuild this week so have a clean installation of Windows 7 installed with basic drivers. Heard Bitdefender made improvements on their program so decided to give it another shot. So far it seems a lot lighter on resources and actually saves User Mode settings (something the previous build never did). Felt like I got my money's worth when purchasing two boxes during a 2010 blackfriday sale.

    Unfortunately, the new BD build is too good to be true. I still suffer from the same Black loading screen at startup. There is already a thread mentioning this same problem and no resolution on the older build. Thought maybe now this would be fixed.

    The problem is Windows 7 x64 (same) would freeze on a black screen before loading the Login Screen. There situation was much worse than mine, but it still affects me. While having Bitdefender IS installed a warm reboot would freeze on a black screen for 25 seconds before displaying the Logon page. Without Bitdefender IS installed, the User Logon screen displays immediately after Window's loads (not long at all).

    I know all Security Suites "pour" molasses on your PC and slow it down. But not by this much. My dual-boot Vista installation (which is installed and isolated on its own drive) loads faster than my 7, and it's on just a standard SATA II WD Black using a free Security Suite. I have this Windows 7x64 installation on a SATA III Velociraptor (not as fast as SSD, but less problems) and a clean installation too. Only drivers (MB, GPU, Sound, mouse), updates, and firefox installed.

  • Yes there is a categorically is a problem with some computer configurations and delayed startup. Please don't take the following the wrong way, I am not having a go at you or anyone else.

    The emphasis has to be on some because not all machines have this issue. For example, of the 4 machines we use the New Bitdefender Internet Security on none of them have this delay. They are by no means identical in any way shape or form either:

    1. Windows XP SP3 - Intel P4 3.2Ghz, SiS 661FXm, 2GB DDR 400, 250Gb SATA-150 HDD, X1650 Pro AGP GPU

    2. Vista HP SP2 x64 - Athlon 64 x2 4400+, AMD 785G+SB710, 4GB DDR 400, 500GB SATA-300 RAID 0, IGP Radeon HD 4200+ PCI-E HD 3450 in Hybrid Crossfire

    3. W8 Pro with Media Center - Intel Pentium G840, Intel H61, 8GB DDR3 1600, 2GB SATA-300 AHCI, Radeon 6600*

    4. Vista HP SP2 x64 - Intel Core 2 Duo T7250, Intel 965M, 4GB DDR2 800, 500GB SATA-300 AHCI, Radeon HD 2400

    Previously ran W7 Pro x64 SP1 and no problem there either.

    So it is most likely caused by a conflict with a system service or driver (from another program or hardware) used by the affected computers during the startup process.

    How can Bitdefender fix it? By analysing the system tool reports that people affected actually submit to them. If everyone does this (including the ones that just post 'me too, if they don't fix it I'm off') they will be able to offer a solution sooner rather than later.

    Without these it is like trying to find a needle in the haystack.

    That is definitely true about BD acting differently on different computer configurations even with the same OS. Some things that could make a difference are the graphic cards, BIOS vs UEFI. having an OS with ELAM vs one without. Three other things that can affect the performance of BD are Memory speed, cache configuration and having your OS on a SSD as opposed to a HDD, are three more areas that can affect the performance of BD. I am sure there are many other variables.

    I don't mind users voicing their opinion. Better to receive some feedback than nothing at all. But opinions don't solve problems.

    If it was system reports they needed then there would be no issue addressing and fixing the problem by now. The thread was created in July 2013 and posted under Bitdefender 2013 suite. So it's not old, but not new either. It was posted under the previous build too, and a variety of users submitted and provided sample configuration reports. Not one received a response from BD. I submitted one in too according to your recommendation. (The team should have fun with a gaming PC around the office).

    Based off your configurations, it seems like the new build is only optimized for semi low end/ legacy hardware. Ideally, BD should be running flawlessly if that's all the specs needed. Note: It is completely isolated from the Vista installation with Acronis Disk Selector. Neither one can touch the other.

    I uninstalled BD Internet Security again to isolate the problem with the "wondrous" uninstall tool. After cleaning up the remnants it loaded up instantaneously. Absolutely no delay from the Logo to the Logon screen. Reran the uninstall tool again just to make sure and reinstalled the same suite. Rebooted after the installation reboot and face the same problem. Even set the intrusion system to Permissive which other forums suggested.

    There is no doubt the new build is an improvement, take it any day over original 2013, but not an upgrade from what BD used to be.

    Hello all,

    In order to assist you we need to identify which Bitdefender module is causing the black screen issue at system boot. In order to do this please follow these steps:

    1. Open the Bitdefender window either from the Desktop shortcut or by clicking on the Windows Start button -> All Programs -> Bitdefender 2013 -> Bitdefender Antivirus Plus or Internet Security or Total Security;

    2. From Antivirus turn Autoscan OFF;

    3. From Firewall, turn the Firewall OFF;

    4. Then click on Settings;

    5. Click on Settings and disable On-access scanning from the Antivirus box. Disable if for 30 minutes. It will enable back when this period expires;

    6. Then disable the "Active virus control" in the lower part of that same window;

    7. Then click on gear, select the Firewall module and from Advanced disable the Intrusion Detection system;

    8. Click on gear, select the Privacy module and perform the following changes:

    - turn ON the Show Bitdefender Toolbar option;

    - turn OFF the Scan SSL option;

    - turn OFF the Protection against fraud option;

    - turn OFF the Protection against antiphishing option;

    9. Close the Bitdefender window;

    10. Open your Internet browser, click on the tiny black marker from the central left spot on top of the page in order to expand the Bitdefender toolbar and turn it OFF;

    11. Close the Internet browser and check if the issue still occurs.

    If the issue is solve by disabling all those modules, please try to enable just one at a time and restart the PC to check which of the Bitdefender modules is causing this issue.

    Note: for Bitdefender Antivirus Plus please skip the 3rd and 7th step.

    Please post back and let us know if disabling any of these modules solved the issue, and which of them it was.

    Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Pushkar Gogte,

    I'll ask my colleague to take a look at your Ticket ID: 201307111012553. In the meantime, if you could perform the above test and reply with your results it would help a lot.

    Thank you again for your cooperation.
