So, I gather from other threads that this issue is to do with the https scanner. Does this issue affect all BD users or is it hit and miss?

Well, all I can say is that it appears to be in the firewall. If you read up a few posts what I have been doing is disabling the BD firewall and using Windows Firewall instead. After that, no problems.

I purposely made a video earlier today to display content being downloaded via HTTP with the BD Firewall off and having the Windows Firewall active. At no time did I get FIN_WAIT_2s, or FIN_WAIT_1s and every Socket session closed as it should. To further that point I've seen other sockets with non-http traffic using the BD Firewall get in that same funk where you have sockets in FIN_WAIT_2. Eventually, depending on your settings they'll go away but as other have pointed out, if you have limited bandwidth or are charged based on usage this can be very annoying.

Disabling the firewall doesn't take a long amount of time but you have to go into safe mode to do it.

  • Thanks for the reply. I use Bitdefender Antivirus plus along side Comodo firewall so I'm good to go. I had checked with Tcpview and I had no such issues, but I know of someone using just the av who did have the reported issues. I've also seen a few posts on the forums from av users who are suffering these issues. However as I said using BDAV+ & Comodo firewall I have no such problems.

    Thanks again.

Well your results also confirm what I was seeing to with Windows Firewall.

  • I'll stick with Bitdefender antivirus plus, but, should I experience any of these problem I'll switch to Emsisoft no questions asked.

  • I've put a brief video together here: http://wikisend.com/download/194416/DisableBDFW.mp4 on disabling the firewall in BitDefender.

    Enjoy.

  • Anybody who doesn't know how to do that probably shouldn't be using a computer.

  • Well I put Comodo 6.2 on one of my machines and I can confirm that it doesn't have the firewall problem.

    Hello Will Wood,

I use free CIS (AV/FW) for more than 2 months (since I uninstalled BD) and I can assure you (although I'm almost sure you know) that not only has not such an issue BUT it also can teach(show) to anyone how a PC works with its connections/permissions for any software, AV protection etc. leading a user to have more knowledge about what happens on his own PC (even better as BD did before 2012 release).

I know, you mean BD AV with Comodo FW together but BD staff (and some users' experience) say that it is not recommended. Sooner or later malfunctions are going to be appeared because of driver conflicts.

    Sincerely yours :)

No I removed BD on one of my systems and install CIS to see how it would operate. Call it curiosity.

Will Wood - Have you tried Comodo firewall with Bitdefender AV? I find they run great together.

No, I just did a replacement on one of my systems and replaced it with CIS. Since this forum prohibits comparisons I won't go into any details about what I think thus far. I just can say that the firewall problem we've all seen with BD hasn't reoccurred.

  • Thanks for the reply. Yeah CIS is pretty solid to be fair.

ZeroDay, I would like to add my word of caution/alert to you about EMSISoft. I had that product for quite a while (two years or more) along with Online Armor FW which soon became their product. I personally found it slowed down and bogged my old (and totally in need of a rebuild & upgrade from WinXP SP3 to Win7 64bit - not gonna try Win8 yet - but need more funds for that) system down too much for my purposes. Emsisoft may be regarded well, but I am not the only one who had some troubles with it.

However, that may not apply to you or your setup, so YMMV. I know that an older - outdated system - should not be the bench mark for comparison, but for me I needed a product that did what I wanted and kept from making it run like molasses down a slide in the Alaskan winter. I just wanted to give you a little note of caution before proceeding. :D

I had to shut down the FW at times and tweak other settings to allow media to play well on my PC - from Netflix, to other MP4s, to fully downloaded movie files, to YouTube and the like, it was just a hassle. :o

I wish you the best of luck with your migration to whatever product you finally choose, if you do abandon BD. I know that I will likely forego it soon as it is "Not much fun for little Harpo." <img class=" /> (love that Dory)

    Have a great day.

    Hello dear angry customer,

first of all: i am an angry customer too.

BD support DOES NOT WORK (to say it loud)! The inner organization at BD seems to be a kind of lottery game and customers with problems are just bad customers - let's sell that product to more people not knowing what they do. BD does not know how to interact with customers and with the public. They have this forum in several languages but it seems that supporters don't care about messages in other languages. When ever any solution is found e.g. in Spain they do not post that solution to other subforums (english, german, romanian).

And they do not seem to have any 'senior support engineer' who is ordered to watch this forum and to co-ordinate answers or solutions. Christian seems to be over-stressed and thus unable to give substantial support.

Well (or not well) - to your problem:

Microsoft has hotfixed a problem on systems running W7 64bit. In short: sometimes TCP/IP communication waits for packages and does not get them (so it waits and waits and waits...). Some customers of BD have given very useful hints to find and isolate that problem, but BD was not able to pass those hints to Microsoft in time - or? Maybe Microsoft does not respond in time to issues sent from Romania?

    Please try this:

Hope this will help you. Just give it a try because you will not get any response from BD before next week (remember it's weekend). And then it could be possible that you get an answer like '...please make a screendump and send it in...' followed by a detailed 'who-to-make-a-screendump'.

    Regards!

I am just and only a BD customer. Nothing connects me to BD (apart from many unanswered mails).

And i am angry and frustrated. THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO INTERACT WITH CUSTOMERS: THAT IS SIMPLY +-+-+-+ (would be censored anyway).

But there is one thing to say: BD seems to have a very good antivirus-engine and it works very fast and reliable (if it works). Just customers are left alone and that is absolutely not acceptable.

    :-(

So if it happens to you with youtube, and it seems to be happening to me with file downloads, it seems the issue is the same. I just went ahead and placed Ubuntu downloading, paused it, stooped it, closed firefox, and now it will have to download all 700MB, with my slow 2 Mbps connection! One more hour and a half with slow internet for me!

How do you make this stop downloading? I really could use my internet in it's normal speed right about now before launch break!

Is there also a way to directly speak with Bitdefender Support? Because it seems this issue goes unnoticed on the forums by them sad.gif

EDIT: Thanks for the clarification about the license question smile.gif

EDIT2: I Stoped my wireless and started it again, but it started downloading right away again :/

EDIT3: Never mind, i got what you mean by "Disabling the adapter". I Just went into "Connections" and actually disabled my wireless card and started it again and now it stooped, thank

  • I switched to CIS I may return to Comodo firewall with BDAV+ who knows

  • This issue has been fixed in the 2014 edition. Nice of Bitdefender to tell us...

    <_<

I'm outta here. have fun folks..

    Hello,

They told nothing because issue is still remaining on "New" BD and they'll never fix it.

    Regards!

  • Yeah I've had enough. Happily, my license expired. I think Kaspersky will serve me better. I will check back in a year but I won't expect any change in the matter.

I have windows 7 SP1 x64 with TS 2013 x 64 & VMWare Workstation 9.2, everytime I download a file or view a video the bitfender firewall will start to seemly slow down this acitivity. But in Network activity you can clearly see that the connection is at full speed but something else is using up my bandwidth. Stopping my download program or browser and even existing and checking with task manager to ensure that the program is completely stoppend you can see that something else is still downloading the file. and browsing is slowed after that for all programs.

I have used the Microsoft Network Monitor tool and it will show that something is downloading packets even if all programs are completely closed sometimes it attributes the downloads to previously closed program or system.

This can go on for hours, the only way to stop this is to disable my network adapter or 3g connection for a while; it does not matter what connection I am using.

Disabling Bitdefender FIrewall module in the Dashboard and all its internal settings does not change anything.

Reenabling the connection too soon will continue this bandwidth stealing usually 3 minutes is enough to temporarily stop this.

If I resume my download at some point this bandwidth stealing starts again.

    PARANOID Mode IS DISABLED.

WINDOWS UPDATE will not be downloading updates as my sytem will be uptodate and its set to notify anyway before downloading.

The only way to stop this from ever happening is going into Device Manager and disable the 2/3 Bit Defender Firewall related Device drivers manually. The antivirus device/module are ok and they do not cause this behaviour.

After a reboot everything will work OK and but I have to now use Windows Firewall I have my bandwidth back. Until a Bit Defender build update which will re-enable these Firewall drivers and I have to disable them again.

I used to use Norton IS 2012 on the same machine and software without any issues.

    Any help will be appreciated.
