Uninstall Ca Etrust

I just downloaded Bitdefender and tried to install it. It first said it had to get rid of previous IS software (Total Defense) which it did, I rebooted and it prepared to install but said that it cannot install because of eTrust. I cannot see any trace of eTrust (CA eTrust was what I had before they became Total Defense).

I saw this link here with a similar question but the solution was a utility given to poster by your support team (http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=43253).

I need your help to get rid of this phantom software/service/...

Thanks.

  • Hi Buddy,

Waiting on the same advice, hope it comes through soon as it is starting to annoy me. Lots of dead end leads that no longer open.

    Cheers

I tried to download their CA removal tool but it doesn't work. If this takes too long, I will call and ask for refund; can't leave computer exposed.

Thanks, but no luck; I still get the error (I posted the screenshot before).

The problem is I had Total Defense before and never had CA eTrust on this laptop at all.

I think it is just time to ask for a refund and ditch Bitdefender since their support does not seem to be very helpful (so far non-existent). No matter how good an application is; if support is below par, the application is below par.

  • You run the utility in safe mode?

That was it! I run the utilities in safe mode, rebooted and ran the installation file and it worked fine. Thanks for your help.

Thanks No Bull for passing it on, Thanks Rampant for posting it up.

Greatly appreciated people, worked a treat and now have it installed.

Cheers for taking the time to reply to requests, Hopefully it is now plain sailing, hey, how hard is this stuff supposed to be?

  • I'm glad I was able to help you.
