Real-time Protection Is Not Available
Just installed BitDefender AntiVirus 2008 - when I go into settings -> Antivirus -> Shield, the real-time protection checkbox is not checked, and the checkbox is grayed out so I cannot check it to turn on the real-time protection. How can I enable real-time protection?
Thanks for any clues ...

Same here. The checkbox was grayed out. For me it wasn't just the real-time protection but also the Identity Control service that didn't work. I fixed it with restarting my machine.
I had the impression it had something to do with me letting the computer hibernate. I thought that the two services might have shut down when my machine returned from Hibernation mode this morning. However, just now - after the restart - I've let it hibernate again and that didn't switch off the two services. Guess the Hibernate mode wasn't the reason why the two services weren't active.
Maybe that helps you to find a solution, Brian.
Greetings,
Sven
PS: I use my machine as a user instead of an administrator. Lacking certain rights was my second guess for why the two services weren't active.0 -

I am having the same issue. Everything worked great on my XP side of my dual boot until I noticed some odd behavior (applications I didn't click on were loading, icons were appearing on my desktop) so I shut down and switched over to my Vista side and ran Bit Defender there and it came across a virus that was running rampant unchecked! As far as I can tell, I was able to clean it up thanks to the dual boot but I'm still unable to get the bit defender antivirus portion working again. I wish I had been smarter and spent more time on the BD forums instead of reading the rave reviews on all those other websites that gave it 5 stars.
Now at least we know where the support money goes... paying off review sites for better ratings!!! Time to get my money back and switch back to Symantec... at least they know what they're doing more than half the time.0
