Problems With Internet Security 2008

Options

I ran Internet Security 2008 for 30 days on my XP 64 bit machine with no problems. The minute after I purchased it, it turned into a POS and tech support has not answered any of my emails.

After the updates the firewall and antivirus become disabled and will not restart. I click the fix all button and nothing happens. I tried manually restarting the VSSERV.exe in services and it will not restart.

Any help would be appreicated.

    Tried restarting your computer?

  • Tried restarting your computer?

Yes of course. Restarted, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc...

  • I am having the same problem.

Yes, I rebooted and am now currently trolling the internet looking for a solution.

I have had no luck at all in getting real time protection started following the first update after install. I've gone through every suggestion I can find; finally went back to Version 10 Antivirus Plus. No problems at all with it. Not ideal, but the best I could do.

  • I'm too having the same problem about the firewall is disabled and cannot enable it. I just install a fresh vista and bd, but the firewall just stay disable there. Don't know why it will be like that but I hope someone can solve this problem cause i need firewall back <img class=" />

  • This is happening to me too. I'm glad I'm not alone. Hopefully we can get some help. Has anybody contacted support?

  • Add me to the 'me too' list. I purchased a new computer with WinVistax64 which meant that I couldn't run v10 on it, so I had to do the (thankfully free) upgrade to 2008. I've un/reinstalled several times and yes, I've contacted support repeatedly. The last thing I got (after all the silly questions) was that they would have to research the problem and get back to me. That was yesterday and my new computer is sitting here unprotected by BD in the meantime. After going over the same questions (yes I've uninstalled using the tool, yes I've reinstalled, no I'm not running windows defender, yes I've checked services to make sure it's started), the people I spoke to on chat are clueless.

I bought 2 computers for 2 years, and still have at least 18 months left. I'm NOT happy!

  • Did everyone reinstall/update within the last couple days? I am trying to troubleshoot this problem, and I noticed that the program seemed to work at first, but then this issue came on again after the update ("older than one day" fix). I'm wondering if it's the update that's making the program wonky.

Okay, update (sorry for back-to-back posts, but the forum won't let me edit my previous posts). I uninstalled with the 64b uninstall tool (the tech who emailed me sent me the 32 bit, which is probably why it wasn't removing everything correctly), and reinstalled. However, this time, I did not register with my key (registration still failed and locked up, though), and I did not do the older than one day update. BDIS2008 is running fine right now, and it's scanning my computer. However, the obvious problem is that it's also not registered or updated, so it's only good for 30 days and not up-to-date. So after the scan, I will attempt to do first one and then the other, and see if the problem comes back, and at what point.

It's nonsense that I have to do all this for hours, rather than getting a product with good support that works!

    Dear all,

Try to re register vsserv.exe again : go to start, run type this in the run dialog box

    "C:\Program Files\BitDefender2008\vsserv.exe" /REGSERVER press enter.

For the firewall issue go to start, run, type devmgmt.msc at the run dialog box go to the display (view) menu, click on show hidden devices, expand non plug and play compatible drivers, double click on entry called, bdftdif,it should be enabled click on the driver tab,it should be started and startup type should be set on system. Press on ok to confirm.

    Best regards

    Niels

  • If anything it would be "C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender2008\vsserv.exe" /REGSERVER on my system, but that doesn't seem to do anything but throw up an error message.

Okay, I am up and running with no current problems and the program is registered and updated. This is the process I followed, restarting where indicated by the software. (YMMV)

    1. Uninstalled BD with the uninstall tool first (use x64 version found here: http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...all_Toolx64.exe if you are on a x64 system; this was a big problem with mine, as the emailing BD tech sent me the 32bit version, except it wasn't marked in any way that indicated it was 32)

    2. Used BDIS2008 to remove itself (repair was greyed out), hopefully removing any traces step 1 didn't get

    3. Installed BDIS2008 as an evalution, i.e., I didn't register it at first.

    4. Ran the working evaluation of BDIS2008 to scan my system for any viruses.

    5. None found, I registered. This is where things got hinky, because the registration succeeded, but attaching it to my current account failed and I got Vista's lovely 'your program is f'd' pop-up at which point BDIS2008 restarted. However, my key was showing the second time, and not wanting to tempt fate I hit 'create an account later' and let the software finish the installation process with the update. I found out from a tech that sending BD the information after you paid for a different version (in my case v10), doesn't upgrade the information on your account anyway (mine would still read v10 online with that key), so no worries.

    6. The program ran fine, so I crossed my fingers and toes and did the final restart. And everything seems to be running fine. Here's hoping that it stays up and running.

Best of luck to everyone. Hope this helps.

  • I went through the support process, and they told me to uninstall and re-install. Everything worked fine for a few weeks, but today an update broke me again. <img class=" />

Both my virus scanner and firewall are showing up as disabled. When I click on "enable" for my firewall, it tells me "Failed to initialize BitDefender Firewall drivers. Firewall disabled." It won't even let me click on anything to restart the virus scanner. It just says "Real time protection is unavailable".

This is ridiculous. This is the first time I have used bitdefender, and may be my last. I don't have time to keep uninstalling and re-installing in order to maintain protection. And I don't have time to spend another 45 minutes on a support call.

    Hello Kris,

Today was released a Product Update. After such updates, you have to reboot your system. Until you do this, the protection is disabled.

Did you reboot your computer after the update?

    Cris.

  • You're right - after a reboot yesterday, everything started working fine again.
