[solved] Blocking Access To Tfs

Within the last 36 hours something has changed and I am no longer able to use/connect to Visual Studio Team Foundation Server. Other users can, and if I uninstall Bitdefender I also can. Monday night it was fine, yesterday didn't use my pc, although it was on and running, this morning, can't connect. Any ideas?

    Hello,

Did you make any modifications in Bitdefender during this time?

What exactly happens when you try to access Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (e.g. the screen stays blank, there's an error message, etc.)? Could you please post a screen shot to help us understand the cause of the issue?

Also, please follow these steps, which will guide you on how to turn off each Bitdefender module so we can isolate the feature causing this issue:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=194847

    Looking forward to your response.

  • Sorry for the delay. Am now using laptop for these tests as this problems has cost me a lot of time. Other members of the team have no problems accessing the TFS system, but they are not using Bitdefender. Members are in UK and France.

    1. Check for access to TFS with no AV system installed. - OK.

    2. Download and install latest Bitdefender Internet Security, use default settings.

    3. Check for access to TFS. - Failed.

    4. Carried out instruction, turning various items off.

    5. Check for access to TFS. - Failed.

    Error obtained in all tests.

    post-154205-1377593228_thumb.png

Don't know if this helps, comment from a colleague testing my system remotely.

"If better after uninstalling Bitdefender, then could be a bug in the Bitdefender's firewall... because allowing a website without allowing authentication on the same port (and with the firewall disabled) is not normal."

    Thanks for any help.

  • I have been having the same problem as BigOwl since yesterday afternoon. I am unable to access either of two Team Foundation Servers from any of three machines with BitDefender Internet Security installed, either via Visual Studio or Team Web Access. Machines without BitDefender work fine; and after uninstalling BitDefender on one machine that was exhibiting the problem, it worked fine too.

  • Similar issue, although not quite the same. Bitdefender is blocking access to 2 sharepoint sites hosted on my works servers. disabling ssl checking in the anti-phishing settings enables access to one of them, but not the other one. Totally uninstalling bitdefender allows access to both. Reinstalling Bitdefender, neither work again. This occurs in both IE and Chrome. Have tried clearing cookies, resetting IE to default settings, no change. I really need to use these websites, but I also want the protection of Bitdefender!! Any ideas??

  • I can concur with this, as I had two machines not working. My wife was adamant that it was Bitdefender, so she uninstalled the product on her machine, and was suddenly able to work. I did the same on the second machine and miracle of miracles...

Now I need to find another Internet security package for my machines.....

    Hi

Since I've installed BD 2014 trial, I can't access the address 192.168.1.5:8099. First time I put the address FF (and IE) asks for user and pass, as it should, after that it just keep waiting for 192.168.1.5 forever

Device also respond to por 80 and here is working OK, no problem! I mean:

    http://192.168.1.5 = OK

    http://192.168.1.5:8099 = NOK

All others computers, inside the same network are OK

Already tried paranoid mode and autopilot off, but no popup or something to solve this. Turn firewall and all others protection off, doesn't help either

    Can you help?

  • I have the same problem with new Bitdefender and Bitdefender 2013... Uninstalled this crap - now it works again.

  • I, too, have not been able to connect to Team Foundation Server (TFS) since at least as early as 8/28, if not earlier.

    Workaround 1:

If I uninstall Bitdefender, I regain access (*even with my firewall on* -- see below).

    Workaround 2:

If I install Bitdefender, turn off all options in Bitdefender and restart my computer, then vsserv.exe does not start, and then I am able to access TFS only after *also* turning *off* my Windows firewall. If I manually start vsserv.exe, then I lose access again to TFS.

    Tech support, please indicate

    (1) any workaround you may have that does not require restarting my computer

    (2) when this issue might be fixed -- I can get N0rt0n 360 at Newegg for $twenty-five up through 9/2, so I would like to know asap whether I need to purchase it

Same problem here, and think it is essentially the same problem reported in the thread 'Now Blocking Access to Tfs' (which uses a port and authentication). This is happening with both BitDefender 2013 and 'The New BitDefender', across multiple browsers. Unfortunately no response from BitDefender support there either after more than a week; some customer service, huh?

As you've discovered, turning off all protection doesn't help; the only workarounds I've come across so far are to (a) restart in safe mode and disable all BitDefender services or (B) uninstall BitDefender.

  • Hello,

Please tell me if this workaround fixes the issue:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=195947

I'm looking forward to your feedback.

  • Hi,

If the issue persists after having disabled each Bitdefender module, please tell me if this workaround works for you:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=195947

    Looking forward to your feedback.

  • Hi Georgia,

Followed your instructions and I now have access to Team Foundation Server. :)

    So now what?

  • Hi,

If the issue persists after having disabled each Bitdefender module, please tell me if this workaround works for you:

Thank you, that solved the problem, is good as a workaround as you said. I saw in the topic that this is an issue since BT2013, I'm considering use this protection for my PC but I would like to see a more definitive solution.

    Thank you once more.

  • Thank you all for taking the time to reply with your results.

At this point it's up to the testing team to reproduce the issue internally. The final fix will be implemented through auto-update of the Bitdefender product.

I am keeping the thread open to let you know if I need further details from you. Thank you!

  • Thanks Georgia.

Can you please tell us what the implications are, running Bitdefender with the renamed dll, "bdtl.dll" ?

    You're welcome.

The file bdtl.dll is updated once a month and it holds the Bitdefender TrafficLight driver. If you rename bdtl.dll, Bitdefender no longer intercepts http traffic.

Furthermore, I will need to collect some data from those of you who encounter this issue with Team Foundation Server. If anyone is willing to help us, please reply here.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

  • I am more than willing to help you out.

Let me know what you want.

Seems that bdtl.dll as restored itself, or from an update, and the issue is back.

  • The workaround -- renaming bdtl.dll -- did the trick and I am once again able to access TFS, so yay for that. I have a question though; now that I am taking steps to prevent major updates from reinstalling bdtl.dll and breaking me again, how will I receive an updated bdtl.dll when a fix is available? Will you post an announcement on this thread?

  • Oh and BTW I would be happy to help you duplicate the problem / collect data.

What steps did you take? I've followed all information and bdtl.dll as already updated :(

  • @logatino: Did you configure BitDefender to prompt before downloading and installing updates? You have to do so, then only allow BitDefender to install signature updates, not program updates, when prompted. This should prevent BitDefender from replacing the bdtl.dll you renamed. It's been working for me although it's a real pain responding to all of the update prompts.

  • Also had this problem where I couldnt acces some internal websites.

    The workaround fixed it.

I just go a popup for a new product update (64 MB) where the bdtl.dll is being replaced again..

Is this one the fix or still the faulty one?

  • This is really annoying now..

Even though I followed the instruction to prompt before downloading and untick product updates, the product updates are still being installed.

After my last post I canceled both the signature as the product updates, didn't receive any more product updates but I see the file bdtl.dll has been recreated.

Version of the file changed from version 17.16.0.716 to 17.17.0.768 which means the product update has been installed since the file was renamed to .old.

    How is this possible?

Please provide a permanet solutions because going to safe mode every time my machine restarts is not a solution at all..

  • I just wanted to chime in and say that I also need this fixed! Renaming a file and trying to prevent Bitdefender from updating is not an acceptable "fix". I also would be willing to provide whatever info you need to help support getting this fixed! Please let us know as soon as a solution is ready!

  • I encountered the same problem and I am not satisfied with the solution. That needs to be fixed quickly! Restarting the system everytime the dll is updated although I have disabled silent installation is really no option. I have contacted support two times via email but they don't seem to bother much. That is no support at all. I expect at least some kind of reaction from them. If this is not fixed I need to switch to another product and certainly will not recommend bitdefender to others! I am quite annoyed by this issue.

  • So, BitDefender Support, *ANY* word on this at all? Are you working on it? Do you even care? More than two weeks since the initial problem report, a lame invasive work-around that only kind of works, and no word so far as to whether you've been able to duplicate the problem and are working on a resolution, OR as far as I can tell any attempt to gather further information. I for one am on the verge of scrapping BitDefender on all the machines I manage and moving to a new product. If I do so you can count on me never putting in a good word for BitDefender products ever again. I honestly can't believe that I've maintained my brand loyalty for so long in the face of such poor customer service.

I must say "you're absolutely right". This is a known bug since BD2013 and there’s no answer from support if there’s one.

This is not an acceptable procedure for a company like BD, something must be wrong there.

  • What Bitdefender's firewall is missing is the ability to open a specific port or range of ports and specify the protocol (TCP or UDP or Both) without having to tie it to a specific application or executable. That's how I was able to make TFS work before I used Bitdefender with the Windows 8 Firewall - just opened the port that TFS uses (and I changed it to a non-default port.) The link that we were referred to that explained how to work around the problems we are having with TFS referred to people also having problems trying to access a website on a non-traditional port - one that wasn't port 80.

If Bitdefender cannot add this capability, then I am going to have to look elsewhere for a security program for all 5 systems in my house, including those my sons use. I am not going to use Bitdefender for them and something else for my husband's and my computer just because we can't develop using TFS with Bitdefender. Bitdefender will lose all of our sales.

No answer, no solution. This is how much BD care about their costumers and possible costumers.

Do they remmember that this is not a free product? People has paid for this!

  • Hello all,

First of all I want to inform you that this is not a connectivity issue caused by the Firewall module of Bitdefender, but by the Traffic Light module.

Moreover, our testing team would like to ask for your cooperation in solving this asap. Please post back if you are willing to help us and I will contact you via email with more details.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi. I'm pressing the Update command but I'm only offered to update the signatures. I have a spanish version. Should I be able to dowinload the update now?

  • By the way, my current version is 17.16.0.729.

    Thanks!

Greetings from an ex-customer. I will NEVER EVER recommend your products or services. After uninstalling, it's like taking an elephant off my chest: Everything at a normal speed, no TFS issues...

Sometimes it takes 90€ to identify a REALLY BAD product.
