  • Thanks for your help Orphan and Niels!

Actually I didn't know the difference between the 2 different links they send me, but now that you pointed it out, I did download the 32 bit one and after trying to download it like 5 times following advice from different places, the same error came up... I read the topic you recommended on the autoexec file and I checked, but did find it in the system32 folder... I have a really slow internet connection but still, each time I tried downloading the BitDefender I had to wait 4 hours (which costs A LOT!) just to find the same Win32 error... Should I still do the whole copy and paste of the AUTOEXEC.NT in the system32 folder? Or what can I do? This is really becoming a frustrating, not to mention expensive, situation for me, so please help me... I'm not very good with computers and stuff so please keep it simple for me, will you? :) Thanks in advance...

    Dear bit_user,

Yes I would copy and paste the autoexec.nt from the repair folder to the system 32 folder because the current copy you have in system 32 might be corrupted. I also recommend that you put in your windows installation cd-rom go to start, run, type cmd press enter. Now type sfc /scannow and press enter. Now your windows installation will be scanned on corrupted or missing windows files. This only works with an original windows cd-rom (not with oem or recovery disc).

    Dear trucker

bdrsdrv.sys isn't used anymore in the 2008 products. This is only a user forum.

  • Thanks for your help Niels!

Ok, I copied the autoexec file to my system32 folder. I tried to do the scan for the corrupted files and it says that the Windows files need to be copied in the DLL Caché to work properly... It's in spanish, so I'm not sure if the translation is correct... I hope you understand... Also, in the bottom it says that it needs the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD, and I don't have that..... Will the download still work without doing this?? Thanks Niels.

  • There seems to be a problem with Bit Defender Antivirus 2008 and Comodo BO Clean. When I shut down my computer, BO Clean hangs up due to some registry conflict with BO Clean. This did not happen with Bit Defender Antivirus v. 10. It's only been happening since I upgraded to Antivirus 2008.

I encountered the same problem after I upgraded from BitDefender Antivirus 9.5 to BitDefender Antivirus 2008 last night, but I found a nice workaround to use pending resolution of the conflict by BitDefender:

After a little experimentation on my XP Home SP2 system, I noticed that the shutdown problem doesn't

occur when BoClean is started up manually, instead of via the "Automatically

Start BoClean at Bootup" option in the BoClean configuration menu.

So I decided to try the following, and it very nicely solved the problem: I

unchecked the BoClean Auto-Start checkbox. Then I put a shortcut to

BOC425.EXE (which for me is located in C:\Program Files\Comodo\CBOClean)

    into the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start

    Menu\Programs\Startup.

Result: Even though auto-start remains unchecked in the BoClean

configuration, BoClean still starts automatically at bootup, but no longer

hangs at shutdown. No changes were required to BitDefender. Everything now

seems to be working just as smoothly as it was prior to the BitDefender

upgrade. Of course, it would be preferable not to have to use a workaround.

I should point out that, by choice, I don't have all of BitDefender AntiVirus 2008's

    capabilities enabled.

    HI,

I am having trouble with BD IS 2008 64bit running on Vista home premium. What happens is it disconnects from the internet after times. sometimes 1 hour sometimes 2 hours. My network becomes local only. I have been in touch with helpdesk now for 2 months tried everything they have said to no avail. The engineers are still working on it. My licence will expire before a fix is found. I tried nod 32 free trial and it never disconnects. I also tried avast free and it never disconnects. I tried a clean install of vista 64bit and bitdefender and the problem is still there. I have an Abit KN9S motherboard and 4gb ram amd 5200X2 and a Linksys WRT54GS router. Any ideas? should I wait for a fix or look at buying another 64bit security package?

    Thanks

  • I just upgraded from an iPod mini to iPod Nano 3G and now experience the issue being mentioned here... from what I can tell nobody has come up with a solution or confirmation that the problem "formally" exists???

I had to upgrade my version of iTunes so perhaps it is related to the current version of iTunes only as like I say the old iPod mini seemed to work fine (though it had it own problems hence the upgrade)?

In my case clicking OK to close the error box is all I have to do and then iTunes and Nano do sync fine.

FYI I am running XP SP2 ( + billions of lovely microsfot updates)

Not sure of the exact version of iTunes off the top of my head.

Nope... Again... Didn't work... Is there some way I can get my money back? I don't want it anymore, I just can't fix this and it's costing me too much.

  • Ok Niels, thanks for your help.

  • I also really regret the purchase of Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 ! ! !

I was very happy with the working of the trial of version 10 which gave me no issues at all.

So after the trial period I wanted to buy this package but only the new IS 2008 was available.

After installing I had no access to the web page of my Linksys modem/router any more.

I tried everything without success. So I contacted the helpdesk. After a few days I received a strange reply. I should try with switching off the firewall. What good is a protection suite if you have to switch is off partly ? I tried, but no cure. Posted again my issue to the helpdesk get some help ……. I’m waiting now more then a month ! ! !

I even tried on another computer, running on Vista, where mine is XP. After installing IS 2008 we got the same issue, no access anymore to the modem/router web page.

I uninstalled IS2008 and reinstalled a IS version 10 trial and big wonder, it works ! I can access the web page of my modem/router again ! ! !

If this works, why can Bitdefender not cure my issue ? I have paid for a working package, no ?

It really ###### and I sure will not recommend anybody Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 ! ! !

    <img class=" /><img class=" />:(:(

Davos, did anyone from BD ever help you? Were you able to solve the problems you describe? Thanks!

    Dear bduser3,

Try this uncheck stealth mode: right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock click on open advanced settings,go to the firewall section click on the advanced tab,you will find stealth mode on that location. Press on ok. Go also to the parental control section and uncheck heuristic web filter, web control or disable parental control if you don't need it.

We use Filemaker extensively. BD 2008 will not allow the connection to the server to work, no matter if I add Filemaker to the allow list of applications in the firewall. The only solution has been turn off BD2008 firewall. I think I'm going back to an earlier version. This one seems to slow the computer down and keeps me from getting my job done. Very disappointed in this most recent BD version. <img class=" />

OK, I finally came up with something to make it work. I had to go into the Zones tab of the firewall settings and change our network to trusted. I've never had to do anything like that before. What's going on with this? Is it just over-zealous?

Well, it's not exactly software, but still. I experienced an incompatibility with the iPod 2GB Nano  When I plug it into the USB port, I start getting svchost.exe errors, that just don't stop, unless you manually reset the computer. I tried to disable the firewall, didn't work, now I'm back to the "old" version. That's a shame, though, but this incompatibility is just ridiculous.

i'm experienced the same problem with my 6g ipod classic. sysinternals process explorer reported that the svchost for the bitdefender threat scanner at 100% cpu utilization. this only occurred when i plugged my ipod into my computer.

    i requested a refund because i don't have time to figure out a work-around.

  • BitDefender Internet Security 2008 (BIS 2008) and Microsoft Outlook 2003 (MO2003) are not compatible.

There are some problems at the antispam toolbar of BIS 2008 in MO2003. Problems are explained in below given thred.

I wiil be glad to hear soon. thanks

  • BitDefender Total Security 2008 is holding open my mail archives, so that every time I start up Outlook (2002 10.6822.6830 SP3) it has to scan the file because it was not properly closed when I shut the computer down.

It also does not close properly (BitDefender), I have to wait while bdagent.exe does whatever it does before my computer will shut down. I suspect that these two problems are related.

  • No problem with iPod/iTunes, however, so I expect that the problems experienced by some users have something to do with a third party software or driver, perhaps a USB controller or something.

  • Tried Internet Security 2008 but what I am facing is a very slow starting computer, looks everytime its crashed, but it hangs and only after a few minutes it works. so I downgraded quickly to IS V 10 and this works fine again. IS 2008 for me is not running smoothly.

    thanks Marc

Well I reinstalled and now it seems to work fine, I was still tempted to keep using IS 2008. Probably something went wrong with installing IS 2008 at first time so its fine again!!!

I think I found a solution myself. If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2003 and winfax of Symantec. Go to below given address and do the requirements

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/faxpr...9c?OpenDocument

After you do these settings, Outlook won't stay in the memory, "outllok has encounterd a problem..." will not be seen when you close outlook and antispam bar of bitdefender will work fine in Outlook. Expecting to hear soon.

I have a problem with the updates. When I click the update button I'm seeing a list of files which are downloaded, than a message that says ''The last updates were installed succesfuly",but the virus signature number and engine version are the same, until desktop update service is beeing restarted.

  • This is a false positive report really but I couldn't find any specific place to report it (maybe you should have one ;-))

Right now I am just testing BD AV2008, but if it performs well I seriously will consider it as it's decently priced. As my Firewall I use Outpost 2008 Pro, and it has a feature called "SmartScan" which created hidden cache files to keep track of things and improve performance. These files are reported by BD as an "unknown rootkit" threath. As there is quite a few of them it's not an option to add to the exclusion list.

I would like to see this fixed before the end of my trail as I don't fancy to look for real threaths hidden among 120000 false positives on every scan ;-) So please report this to the responible people.

The hidden files are called OP_CACHE.IDX and OP_CACHE.ATR

  • BitDefender Antivirus 2008 Incompatibility with iPods

Never had a problem with ipods and bitDefender until 2008. Everytime I plug it in......I get a svchost error. This only started happening after installation of 2008. Unlike a previous post, this does not repeat, it only occurs once, immediately after plugging in an iPod.

Application popup: svchost.exe - Application Error : The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

  • Bitdefender 2008 and Sage Accpac - http://www.sageaccpac.com

When installing the DB2 ODBC driver and Sage Accpac itself, the system seems fine.

On rebooting, the BD 2008 services cannot start , the error messages in the Windows Event list in control panel are:

    1. The BitDefender Communicator service hung on starting.

    2. The BitDefender Desktop Update Service service depends on the BitDefender Communicator service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state.

    3. The BitDefender Virus Shield service depends on the BitDefender Communicator service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state.

    Would welcome ideas.

  • All the incompatibilities and bugs that you found will be posted from now on in this sub-forum. Please try to post only bugs from v.2008 or if the bug/problem is to be found in v.10 and still not fixed in v.2008.
