Bitdefender Is 2014 On 1 Week Old Win 8.1 Stuck At 67%, Failed To Install

Options

Hi, during a chat session today, when I described how I had reverted to a disk image before BD was installed to try again, the installation again stuck at 67%. I had made every attempt to remove AVG beforehand (uninstall, tool, manual).

I tried to reply by email as agreed, but my primary email address is rejected - thanks.

Thus I am copying content here as the original forum post is locked.

Broken install, broken uninstall tool. Hmm. I'm left with a broken uninstallable Bitdefender.

Hi, after restart, having been stuck at 67%, BD entered Autopilot.

While the title bar of windows was ok, the close button now either applied to all windows (open dialogue, wordpad e.g.) or wouldn't work (email open in poppeeper, had to use file, exit as X did nothing).

This is similar to each time I've had Bitdefender partly installed or at 67% installing.

I tried to uninstall Bitdefender and use the uninstall tool.

This failed. The uninstall tool stopped working.

The sequence was roughly this.

Tried BD uninstall tool. stuck- not responding- loading config file.

Uninstalled BD from CP. (Ok, should have done that 1st)

Restart

BD still running- tray icon 'services are loading'

Safepay icon - normal- BD IS icon- no graphic.

Launch uninstall again. Proceeded- txmlutil.dll is missing + one other.

IE opened- survey (note my default browser is Pale Moon).

BD uninstall has failed: restart, try again.

(Close button now works properly again).

Restart, tray icon present. Uninstall prompt appears. Uninstall sequence repeats.

Tray icon disappears.

Noted weird behaviour of File explorer- click one thing selects all.

REstart.

Tried uninstall tool - it failed. 'has stopped working'.

So I've got a broken uninstallable Bitdefender and the uninstall tool is broken too.

Does this give me faith in BD's robust programming?

The only possible odd thing is I have a fix for Aero in Win 8.1- fairly simple DWM mod- nothing else has complained. Also Sandboxie is installed.

  • So I uninstalled with Revo.. yes, not a great idea, but it worked.

Next- the full offline installer. Stuck at 67% again.

    Restart- no tray icon.

    Uninstall- 'Successfully uninstalled'.

    Desktop icons still present.

BD tray icon appeared - autopilot.

Close button problem (wordpad, poppeeper etc).

E.g. open 3x explorer- click close on one once- all close.

    Restart

    No tray icon

    Repair- ok

    Restart - autopilot

    Close button problem

    Uninstalled ok.

The Windows installation is new, almost no legacy 'rubbish'.

Conclusion: this appears to be an unstable alpha product- at least the installer. It cannot be regarded as robust.

The strange and consistent interaction with the GUI needs examination.
