It seems like were all experiencing the same issue here.
vsserv.exe on my computer is using 260 megs of ram..way too much in my opinion.
Hopefully bitdefender will shed some light on this subject.0 -
For the last few weeks I have been observing that BD security service (process) in task manager is consuming around 170+ MB of memory and it does not come down. Earlier it used to hover around 5-10MB. I believe it has to do something with the new update..Can someone please help..

Same thing is happening with my pc .. vsserv.exe process is constantly taking up around 200mb of ram .. it's probably caused by the last program update. I tried opening email ticket but the support page is not functional (I never get confirmation that email ticket has been submitted)0 -
any news yet?

Hello all,
Do you encounter system slowdown while using the PC? Does it affect your computer activities in any way?0 -
not something specific, but this process takes 200K memory, something which is new.

Hello,
Thank you for your response.
I would like to forward the situation to the Bitdefender testing team and for this I need from you the information requested below.
1. Download my attachment (vsserv.logger) and place it on your Desktop.
2. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode.
3. In Safe Mode, copy the file from Desktop into C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender (assuming that Program files is in C: drive). If you are asked to replace the file that already exists there choose Yes.
4. Reboot the computer and reproduce the reported issue.
5. After you reproduce the memory consumption, generate a support tool log, which will collect automatically the above log we need for the investigation:
http://www.bitdefender.com/support/how-to-...t-log-1168.html
Send us the BDSP_... archive that will appear on your Desktop at the end.
6. Then, open Task Manager, right click on vsserv.exe and choose 'Create dump file'. Save the dump on your PC and upload it on a file transfer site such as www.speedyshare.com together with the BDSP_* archive.
Post back the download links so we can retrieve the data.
Thank you, we are looking forward to your reply to start investigating this situation.0 -
i can't replace the file in safe mode

Hello! I have the same issue with my father's laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz, 2GB DDR2 Ram, Windows XP SP3). The vvserv.exe is always around 200MB. I followed ypur instructions (Steps 1-5 OK) but in Step 6 when I right click on vsserv.exe There is NOT the choice 'Create dump file'.
I used Bitdefender IS for a lot of years in my laptop WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. Last year I gave the laptop to my father and I want full protection as my father is used to Windows XP and do not want to change the OS.
Looking forward to your advice.0 -

traba, in order to create dump file you need to download Process Explorer from this link , start it up and right click vsserv.exe process from the list and select Create Dump and Create MiniDump and save that file on your desktop. I'm too on XP SP3. Hope this helps0 -

Many users report that after the last update, the product has become consume much more memory than it was before, what is it? Thank you.
I am using BDIS on my W7-SP1 x64 with 8GB RAM.
Actual Memory usage of vsserv.exe is normally between 270MB - 325 MB However, Vitural Mermory usage is actually less than than and under 200MB
In addition, I am using BD W8 Security on my W8.1 updated computers
Actual Memory usage of vsserv.exe is minimal when not scanning usually less than 40MB. Virtual Memory usage is about 200MB same as with BDIS on my W7-SP1. No signficant increase in Actual Memory usage when playing and downloading a video except at the beginning when Actual Memory usage jumped to about 60MB.0 -

Same with me. VVSERV.exe now consuming 30% CPU and enormous memory. Cannot use Thunderbird email as basically is frozen. Have 8 core AMD and 8GB memory but cannot handle the new demands. Something bad has happened with a newer update. Any help?

genervin, follow Georgia's instructions from post #8 on this page and post back the link with created dumps here so Bitdefender developers can analyze them and hopefully find a solution.0 -
Hello,
We want to thank those who provided us with the vsserv logs and dumps.
We have submitted this issue to the Bitdefender testing team and we will now wait for their update. As soon as we have new information on this case we will post back. The information we received is complete, we do not need other logs for now.

I think we will know when there is an update becaue we will get a messaage in "Events ---> Update" saying "Reboot your computer to update" or something like that. Christian will also post news about it the 'The New Bitdefender Forum ---> Updates" My guess is there will also be a change to the version number. You can also note what the BD version is before rebooting and then checking to see if the version changed.0 -

If you search 'The New Bitdefender Forum ----->"Anti-Virus" sub-forum. You will find a thead with many comments on this. This is supposed to be an update in the works that will reduce memory usage. We shall see.0 -
When will it be an update lowering down memory consumption?

The situation is getting worse now..Any information on when there will be a solution available?

Bitdefender uses Insanely High Memory Usage. I tried reinstalling bitdefender and it still uses that same memory usage. Sometimes when updating or being idle Bitdefender uses up to 500mb.

Really dont't know what BD team is doing..

When wi'll the updat be released that fixed the high memory use of Bitdefender , it is taking a lot of time. and it isn't getting better!

Hiya,
This is something the members don't know, it has been escalated to the Testing Team.
It maybe it will be implemented in the 2015 version (which is in beta at the moment) or may be fixed in this version.0 -

So everybody with a 2014 version needs too wait longer untill the 2015 version is out , that isn't a good service from Bitdefender too let everybody wait and let them with a HIGH memory use!! They pay also a lot too get a GOOD product!0 -
No, I didn't say it would be fixed in the next version, I said maybe. As a member I have no idea, all I know is that it is being looked into.
I hope it will be fixed in this version as many will continue on with this 2014 version long after the new one is released and no one wants to have the excessive memory problem.

Hovering at around 200 (185,376 as I type this) megs for vsserv.exe at any given time, and higher during activities like a scan, is pretty much unacceptable. I don't know don't what you guys over there did, but please get this sorted out. My eyes are wandering to other AV solutions, AV test results be damned.
I thought that maybe the 1191 update was going to fix it, but it did nothing for this issue.
Come on guys, you can find more negative reviews of your product than positive ones lately. Even if you're in the top 3 of AV solutions as far as catching the bad stuff. This thing is acting like Norton pre-2008, which they're STILL trying to recover from. Public opinion means everything. People STILL say Norton is bloated even though normal memory usage is under 20 megs.
If you guys don't get this fixed soon, people are going to remember this. Oh Bitdefender? Too bloated! Moving on....0 -
Switch to BD W8 Securiy. You many lose a couple of features like Wallet and Optimization but there are other free products that will do the same thing.
I have been using this computer for about five hours today mostly email and browsing with Firefox. As I type this on one of my W8.1 Upate computers 'vsserv.exe' memory usage is 11MB***. BD W8 Security memory usage varies on all three of my W8.1 Update computers between 10MB and 50MB except when running a Custom Scan or Contextual Scan in which case its RAM memory will temporarily rise to 150MB and possibly above. However, their are no scheduled scans in BD W8 Security so RAM usage is never really a problem with it.
I have used BD W8 Security for about a 17 months on three Windows 8.X computers two of which I am active on for a number of hours each day. Other than possibly a key logger problem about a year ago none of the three computers have had any malware problems to my knowledge. I run MBAM 2.0 Premium along with it and the only thing it has found is a couple of installer files I use that contain PUPs.
*** Your 'vsserve.exe' memory usage will vary dpending on what other program you have loaded and running. For example I replaced ASC Pro with Wise Care 365 Pro and not only does it use less momory than ASC Pro but I have also noticed a drop in the normal memory usage by 'vsserv.exe' of about 50MB. However, even with ASC Pro the RAM usage by 'vsserv.exe' was normally under 75MB. Now it is normally under 20MB.
If mods want to remove this post, I will understand but I am offering an excellent BD solution to a long standing problem with some BD AV products.
Have a nice day0 -
I have recently purchased bit defender total security 2014, and it seems to take over my computer so that there is not enough memory left to run my programs, I switched my computer on at approx 9am, it is now 2pm and I can still hear my hard drive being scanned, and vsserv.exe is still running, this happens every day, every time I switch on - I cannot get on with my work, what on earth is happening???????

HEY BITDEFENDER TECH PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!
How long do us customers have to wait until you do something about this?
I have had this problem for about 5 months now and STILL no solution.
In earlier posts back in April, you said you were going to look into it and we STILL have not heard back from you!
There is NO excuse for this!!! You either need to fix this issue or find another job!!! " />" />" />
P.S. I apologize to all the members out there for my outbreak, but being cordial and polite has not worked with the Bitdefender staff.
My patience has run out!!! Enough is enough!!!0 -

It's June 12th here now. No progress? No communication? Nothing.
I want so bad to love you, but YOU WON'T LET ME! You're killing me over here.
194mb at idle. It's doing nothing but running at idle and you're taking almost 200mb of memory to sit and do nothing. That's crazy. You are now the highest memory hog of any security solution. Congratulations. Let's see that on the "Awards" section.
Yeah, I'm upset. Fix it.0 -
AMEN and DITTO!!!!!

Exactly where do we see this high usage? BDAgent is pretty normal
0 -
On my Win 7 64b, VSSERV is sitting at 194,386 as I type this. A few patches ago, BIS sat comfortably at around 20 or so megs total for both vsserv and bdagent combined. So, something happened and it needs to be addressed.

Look in your "Processes" column. (See attachment)

Hello all,
Thank you for your patience.
What you reported in this thread is not an issue/bug/defect. It is the normal behavior of the product. Although it may seem as a large quantity of memory is being used, you have to keep in mind that there is a lot of malware out there and we need many malware signatures in order to catch them, signatures that reside in the memory.
In order to limit the amount of memory used, what the Bitdefender developers did starting with build #17.27 was keeping the memory usage at a low level by continuously swapping a large portion of it to the disk. This keeps the memory usage at a low level but has a cost in performance. As today’s standard computer has a lot more memory than when we first introduced this behavior, we no longer deem necessary swapping memory to disk.0 -

With all due respect, what you are saying did not start happening until a few months back after one of the updates to "Bitdefender Antivirus Plus".
When my "Bitdefender Antivirus Plus" is updating, I can't even run my computer because it is using so much resource! Heck, my email program won't even open until BT is finished updating!
All of this PLUS, while it's doing this, it takes forever, like 10-15 minutes to do the download and update. And in most cases it's only about a 5,000kb file. Small!
Also no more blue progress bar, no more countdown of kb size remaining while downloading.
It NEVER used to do this until after one of your updates!
My machine is a high powered gaming system with a quad core processor and 16GB of ram.
Internet has 30mbps download and 5mbps upload.
So these issues are not on this end!
I could deal with everything it's doing right now if only it didn't take soooooo long updating!!!
I just hope that your upcoming A/V product version for 2015 will be better than this!!!
If not, I will be looking elsewhere as I'm sure a lot of others will too.0 -
I'm not overly impressed with the 'functions as designed' stance either. So here is my constructive feedback.
The only time it should be loading the system like that for outright performance is during on-demand scans. Any other time the old disk swapping behaviour is far more preferable in my view.
Not everyone has new equipment with a large amount of RAM. Therefore it does impact on performance of other applications when Bitdefender takes up that amount of physical RAM permanently because the other applications are forced to use the pagefile instead more than they would otherwise need to. There are ways of optimising the malware database code size and your leading competitors are able to. That is clearly what your developers really should be focusing on right now.
Also, just because a new machine has a reasonable amount of memory it is there to serve other purposes and not just to run your security product.
So one question I have for you and I would like a clear and concise answer here. When gaming mode is enabled does Bitdefender swap this information it no longer swaps to the hard drive to free up the physical memory footprint for games? If it does not it really should.0 -
