Halleluiah, yes, the progress bar is back, and the Downloaded is working. Love it. Thank you Bitdefender Team for resolving to restore this feature :D:D Thanks for posting the thread, daman1 :)

It was a pretty big update, that also required a reboot (it had been 6 hours since I last updated):

  • Same here had to reboot.

can you guys keep this thread updated on your status i just caught another update but this one i did not see the bar! i hope i just missed it is the case.

  • I almost hought the same thing with a smaller update, no bar or Downloaded. Will have to wait for a couple of hours for a bigger update to see if it's all back. Maybe disable Auto Update for awhile and catch a bigger download to see?

What I thought was interesting was that the Update bar and Downloaded working happened at the beginning of the update, and not after the install, or reboot, as how those things are usually fixed. Unless it was already in a smaller previous update from last night or this morning?

Right i have auto update off at this time so we'll see on the next larger update. I did notice that too the bar was at the beginning of the update so it must have been a previous fix from yesterday? as i shut my PC off at night.

  • Well not sure whats going on confused <img class=" /> haven't seen the bar the rest of the day,it just did a large DL and same thing as before nothing but black.

Can anyone from the BD team shed any light on whats going on here?? it worked, now its not. <img class=" /> is there a bug??

  • So far, it was pretty much just a one time deal in us seeing the blue Update progress bar and Downloaded functioning, as I haven't seen it since.

I think we should be prepared in that it may not be fixed, for these reasons:

    1) That I took Moldoveanu Marius reply as tongue in cheek as far as what was happening concerning this issue. The below is from this post: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=211087

:D We are talking about it and a decision will be made.

    2) Also, that thread shows it being classified as [submitted to Development]?? Why would you submit something that has already been developed and functioning, unless your submitting it on whether to keep it or not, compared to fixing it?? http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=211113

As roberto55 posted in that thread, if it's going to be non functioning, just clean up the Update panel and quit teasing us with non functioning visual aids <_<http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=211128

P.S. and yes, we all know the updates are working and can be confirmed in the Events/Update logs ^_^

  • I agree columbo why is up for discussion it was already implemented in the program in the beginning, I wish would could get a answer on this simple fix.

Maybe, because, IMHO, I don't think they're not looking to fix it, but to wean us off it to help make BD a little more processor friendly and have a bit less system impact, to gain a bit more PC performance, i.e. get rid of some of the eye candy to accomplish this? http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=211083

Yet, it would still be nice for Tech Support to clue us in more of what's going on, rather than leave us twisting in the wind with speculations

  • Although I haven't seen the blue bar since the last product update I do get a notification of the size of the download. (Attached)

Correct, it shows the Total file size, but not how much has been downloaded and installed like it used to, that is why I always tried to keep that with a capitol "D" in my posts, "Downloaded", just to clarify that difference ^_^ I can also see from your image, that it's not working for you either.

Probably a bad choice of words on my part, as it's not totally installed until after it's been totally downloaded. The Downloaded just shows us the download progress.

  • Any modern PC today has plenty of RAM and more then enough to handle any excessive load produced by this small bar progressing and KB's counting.

  • I agree, we have plenty of power to handle that. Maybe I'm reading to much into what little they've (BD Mods) posted, and am out in left field shagging phantom fly balls, lol ^_^

Hello everyone, thank you for your feedback.

We are aware of this display issue. It has been acknowledged by our development team and is currently being worked on for a fix. The fix will be done by means of automatic update and won't require any additional action from your part.

Thank you for your support and patience.

  • Interestingly I had to re-install my BD TS this morning and after install I clicked update to ensure it was indeed all the latest programs and got an update and the blue bar. As it asked for a reboot afterwards I assume it was an engine update so whether the blue bar is back for virus definitions as well, time will tell. :)

    Good morning, Rohugh :)

That happened to me too. What I figured is, that the initial install doesn't have the update modification they made, so it works. After you install that massive initial update and restart, is where that tweak comes into play (part of the update), and we no longer have the blue bar along with the Downloaded install progress. Try disabling Auto Update for a couple of hours, and see if it's still showing after you get a more significant update to install. I just ran a update, and it's still non functional.

  • Good afternoon Scott - time zones and all that. ;)

Yeah I will give the auto update disable a try.

Edit: Just noticed that the auto update has a disable time setting now, I hadn't seen that before so did I miss it or is it new?

lol, yes, those pesky time zones I keep forgetting about :P

You're right, that is newer, maybe within about the 2-3 weeks or so? Maybe it was part of the last build update? I didn't see anything specifically in the log file regarding this change/addition though. Or possibly it was part of the other fixes and improvements.

  • Just had an update, it did give me the size (around 10Mb) but no figures progression or blue bar. It was a definitions update.

  • Does anyone know why Bitdefender Anti Virus Plus is so slow updating?

Every morning I manually update my virus definitions and it takes forever!

No more blue access bar, no nothing. And then when it is done, I have to check to make sure the update was successful.

Also, while updating, the hard drive light burns steady and I can't run any other programs until the update is finished.

It is being a complete system hog, so to speak. It never used to do this!

Below is a screen shot I took while updating. You can see the small size and it took over 8 minutes to update!

I am running Windows7 Home Premium 64bit on a high powered quad core gaming system with 16 GB of ram.

Internet speed is 30 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

Does anyone know what is going one and how this issue can be corrected?

I addressed this a while back and I can see Bitdefender hasn't done anything to fix this.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer...

    Cheers!!!

    Hiya Harleyrider,

I don't know about the slow update as mine is usually done within a minute - for definitions updates.

The blue bar stopped working a while back, Bitdefender are aware of the problem and say it is being looked into but no result yet. I suspect it may not be back until the 2015 version is released but I hope I am wrong.

I submitted a new post about this but I guess Bitdefender removed it.

I am STILL having VERY slow downloading problems for the daily updates.

Still at about 8-10 minutes for a very small virus definition file.

Has anyone else figured why this is doing this as Bitdefender is not being of any help at all!

I have re-installed several times now and it seems to work well on the first update. But after that I'm right back to where I am now! ARGHHHHH!!!!!

If I had any hair left I would be pulling it out by now! LOL!!!

Thanks for anyone who can help out.

    Cheers!!!

  • Just an idea of what the 2015 version of the Update/Download will look like. Total Security, BETA Build: 18.9.0.670

GREAT!!! I hope they do the same thing with Bitdefender Antivirus as they are doing with Total Security.

    Any release date set yet?

    Thanks for the info.

I would imagine all the products will have the same style interface with different "apps" added or removed. There is no mention as to when it will be released, there are still a few problems but they seem to be sorting problems that have come up pretty well. :)

I just HOPE they fix the VERY slow updating of the virus definitions!

And I thought Kaspersky was slow!!! They're running on warp speed compared to Bitdefender! LOL!!!

    You're welcome :)

Yes, as far as the Update module and look, it will be across the board concerning the paid for products. The beta is only released in the Total Security version, as you correctly realized. It will probably be released late June or mid July...if it went as last years release, but, don't hold me to it ^_^

Just to tease you with a couple more images. A new feature is called Profiles, in which you can take it out of Autopilot (Standard Profile) into a user configured Profile mode with it's own settings and list (allowed games, programs etc), that can be tailored to your liking, for Work, Movie and Game. The 2nd image is the window that opens from the main UI Tools Panel.

I am having the same problem, updates seem to take for ever, like the BD server can't cope and you are in a queue waiting to get on,

I have given up on the auto update as it grinds me to a holt for several minutes and nothing works whilst it updates, I just do a few manual updates through the day when it is convenient when I am not using the machine.

The 2015 version has been successfully released and is free to upgrade to. It seems to have solved this problem so perhaps now is the time for you to make that upgrade. :)

  • Mine seems to work fine. It may be a DNS server issue. Sometimes that can cause long delays when your PC can't resolve the DNS address of the update server very fast. I changed mine to a third party's because the ISP provided DNS servers were sluggish and unreliable. Ever since doing so I can safely say the entire internet and downloads from pretty much any server are connecting almost instantly.
