[submitted to developers] Steam Client Triggers Game Profile

I installed today new Internet Security and updated and so far looks awesome but one thing is bothering me is autopilot!

When ever i open Steam it turns gaming mode on and thats stupid and anoying. My steam client always stays open even when i dont play games but bitdefender switched to gaming mode anyways

Gaming mode should be switched when only i play games and after closing games should be switched back to standard mode i gues they didnt much focused on this area and relesed buged autopilot mode!

I hope it will be fixed soon or im switching back to 2014 version that worked fine! <img class=" />

Me too. When I open Cyberfox, Game mode is enabled. I added Cyberfox.exe to Work Profile, but It can't resolved for me. :(

Yes, it happens with me and Pale Moon browser. I reported this during the beta phase and it was acknowledged - but obviously not fixed.

Yes I agree. When a game is closed, Profile should switch back to standard.

  • Hello,

Where did you download your Bitdefender 2015 copy from? Please post back the download link.

    Thank you.

This is well know in another thread here, happens to everyone for Steam and EA Origin as an example.

I found another bug,if i start "Windows Live Mail 2012" or watching a Video on youtube with FireFox it switches always in "GameMode".

The Download was from the Mainpage too : http://www.bitdefender.com/

  • Hello,

Personally, I disabled the "Profile" function. It profits me nothing.

  • I've had profiles disabled because of these bugs. Mine was staying in the game profile even after closing every possible application I could without resorting to killing them with task manager or stopping services. Steam was likely the initial cause for the profile change, but it wasn't reverting to standard after that was closed.

In it's current state, the profile feature is just too buggy/quirky for me to use. Autopilot is incorrectly assigning many applications to profiles, and there are no settings that allow the user to control/fix this, aside from disabling the feature entirely.

My install is BD Total Security, downloaded (online installer) from CNet. http://download.cnet.com/Bitdefender-Total...4-10284555.html

  • Why download on CNet?

Bitdefender 2015 Offline Installation Kits: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=54672

    Or

    http://www.bitdefender.com/Downloads/

  • I got it from CNet 2 days before the offline installer links were posted on the forum. I don't think http://www.bitdefender.com/Downloads/ had even been updated to the 2015 yet. It was fairly early on the 9th, and the site was still being changed over for the new version.

I'm pretty sure the CNet link was from somewhere on bitdefender.com, because I would not have gone to CNet for the download myself.

  • Same issue here. Stuck in Game mode, even after rebooting and without running any other software.

Would like to use Autopilot, but may be forced to shut it off, as others have suggested.

Downloaded Bitdefender 2015 from Bitdefender site after purchase.

  • Its sad they still didnt fixed this crap <img class=" />

  • The Game profile in BD 2015 disables the Windows auto update function among other changes.

I have noticed that when BIS 2015 switches to Game profile when I open my Mail Client and Windows auto update is disabled, the BD 2015 Windows Vulnerability module reports this as an event and gives a warning about it.

It looks like one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing at BD! Talk about adding insult to injury! <img class=" />

    Hello,

I upgraded to BD TS 2015 today and found this same bug. I downloaded my copy from http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/in...r_tsecurity.exe

If you have Steam or Origin running in the background (in my case, Steam runs when computer starts), BitDefender sets profile to Gamer even if no game is running. When I close Steam entirely (even from system tray), Autopilot automatically switches the profile to Standard.

I see this bug have been reported more than 20 days ago, and if previous experiences are any indication, this will remain active for several more weeks, even months. :(

    Cheers,

  • I've noticed that Bitdefender Internet Security 2015 has been staying in Game mode most of the time, because any time the Steam client is running, it triggers game mode. As soon as I exit the client, it goes back to standard.

The problem is, that while Steam is a gaming service, the Steam client isn't a game, and many of it's features are meant to keep running. I use the messaging and community features constantly, when I'm not gaming, no matter what I'm doing.

So is there a way to exclude Steam or in some way remove it from the programs watched for Game mode? Otherwise the profile feature is pretty much useless.

  • Hello,

The best thing for now is to disable the Profile tool.

First, let me say I have been using Bitdefender (BD) for many years and I am very happy with its overall performance and protection. Yes, there have been some problems. But, that happens with any robust software product such as this and problems occur in other vendor products too.

Second, I think the new “Profiles” feature is a great concept and has a lot of potential. However, this new feature has some problems that BD needs to address quickly because those problems are decreasing the security and protection that we, the customer, demand and expect with a quality product such as BD.

I initially documented some problems in other subforums because I found the problem when looking at and using the settings in those sub-features. Now, I realize that the primary problem is with the way “Profiles” turns on and off certain settings based on BD predefined rules for the “Profiles” Work, Movie, and Game categories.

BD “Profiles” changes settings such as Antivirus On-access scanning from Normal to Permissive, Web Protection Search Advisor from Checked to Unchecked, and Intrusion Detection from Aggressive to Permissive when BD detects software that it classifies as Work, Movie, or Game. The problem is that BD sometimes leaves those temporary setting changes as permanent changes even when the Work, Movie, or Game software is no longer running. And, the fact that those settings were permanently changed means that my system security and protection values have been reduced dramatically unless I go back and manually change those setting back to the way I had them originally.

I hope this helps others who are experiencing strange problems with their setting being changed, either temporarily or permanently. And, I hope this lets BD know that we ask you to quickly go back and resolve the problems with “Profiles” setting changes not resetting properly.

One other thing. I agree with others in this forum that BD should allow users to somehow decide whether or not a specific software application is impacted by the “Profiles” Work, Movie, or Game categories through the use of a whitelist, exclusions, etc. and I have noted that in the “Feature request” forum.

I have the same issue and have asked several times and have had no answers except for disable the Automatic Profiles... BUT this is one of the MAIN NEW FEATURES, so I wish they would fix it ASAP.

  • There is a major problem with Bitdefender.

When in auto pilot mode it constantly keeps the laptop in game mode.

But I'm not playing any games and there are no games running in the background.

It doesn't matter if the laptop is running in mains or battery either.

The only time it leaves game mode is if the battery runs low.

Because of this windows update keeps switching off and it hasn't done an auto-scan in over 40 days

    How can I fix this?

  • Hello,

Excluding apps from the Profile list is not available but I have forwarded this request to our product manager.

Thank you all for your feedback!

  • Hey, I posted exact same thing previously. Still the same story even with latest update.

  • @ Malacath

Please post here a support tool log to see what is wrong:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/support/how-to-...t-log-1168.html

Replicate the issue when running this diagnostic tool.

If the file is too big to attach, upload it on

    http://www.sendspace.com or http://www.speedyshare.com

    and post the download link.

If you were already asked to generate these logs, disregard the above message and just post the ticket ID.

I am having the same problem. I have notified Bitdefender through Chat. They have still not resolved my issue; however, I did get a message stating they are still looking at it. I told them I did not want work arounds, I want the program to run as it is suppose to. Chat personnel stated they escalated it to get it resolved faster but still no fix.

    Has this been fixed yet?

  • I have two computers, a DELL laptop and a Maingear tower. Both have 2015 BD TS installed with identical lists for entering game mode (primarily backup and video editing apps). On my tower, BD TS 2015 stays in

Standard Profile unless one of the listed apps is executed, as expected. The laptop seems to be permanently in Game Mode. I tried disabling the Battery feature, but that made no difference. I have seen a number

of posts about issues with Profiles, and I am aware that I can turn off the option to allow Auto-Pilot to manage Profiles, but I would still like to know why the Auto-Pilot selects the Game Profile constantly for the

    laptop.

Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Have a great day.

    Regards,

    -Phil

  • Just an update to my previous post. The new build of BD TS 2015 (18.17.0.1227) seems to have corrected the issue of the laptop going into Game mode constantly, though it did it again for no reason on

one occasion after the new build was installed on the laptop and it was rebooted. I am kind of disappointed that there has been no response from BD about this issue.

    Have a great day.

    Regards,

    -Phil

  • I think that's basically the behavior. As seen below, it is the description at the user guide. Disabling auto pilot would make sense too, I think. 1.gif

Bitdefender Profiles assigns more system resources to the running applications by temporarily modifying protection settings and adjusting system configuration. Consequently, the system impact on your activity is minimized.
  • I spoke too soon. On my laptop, Game mode appears to be the default most of the time, even when no programs are running, other than the OS, BD, and anti-malware programs.

I sure hope this gets fixed.

    Have a great day.

    Regards,

    -Phil

  • Hi Phil,

Have you tried disabling any other security programs that are running? Those that have real time scans active could be the cause, other than that send an e-mail support to BD and ask their advice.

    http://www.bitdefender.com/support/contact-us.html

  • Rohugh:

Thanks for your response. No I have not disabled my protection (BD 2015 TS, Malwarebytes Antimalware Premium, and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium). As I indicated, I have a main tower computer and a

laptop. Both computers have the same security solutions. On the tower, BD is in Standard Profile unless a listed "game" program is executed. On the laptop, most of the time it is in Game Mode for no apparent

reason. It could be the "architecture" of the DELL laptop or some other weird incompatibility. Every computer is unique.

If it bugs me enough and doesn't resolve itself in the next couple of builds, I will open a ticket. I have recently had some issues with some programs and I am worn out for a few weeks. All of the logs and such that

they request can take a lot of time.

Thanks again, Rohugh. Have a great weekend.

    Regards,

    -Phil

  • This program runs like "Iwanttoruningamemodesoidoit". For some reason my bitdefender antivirus plus 2015 is running in game mode from this week. I don´t know why, it just happenned.

  • I have seen problems with profiles enabling when I don't want them to so now I have profiles enabled but "Let autopilot manage my profiles" turned off. The only time I need to use them is if I play a game, then I will manually enable the game profile. Bit of a pain when it should do it automatically but saves further aggravation.

Of course I do it manually. It is just....BD is trying to be too clever. Is there a possibility to create our own app. list in profiles? Yes. But I am much more better, I can do it myself, no matter if you want it or not :-p.

  • Unfortunately there is already a default list list the profiles that we are not able to access or alter in any way. I would rather that the default list could be accessed so that we could set up our own list, removing the ones that we don't need. It has been mentioned by Bitdefender that they will look into this.

  • Same issue for me. On a brand new 8.1 laptop with nothing else installed apart from BitDefender Total security 2015, Autopilot switches randomly to Gaming mode and disables Windows Autoupdate. With Autopilot off, everything seems to be fine. So, for now, I will leave it turned off and disable the Profile function.

BD is a good product and I have used it for a long time but this bug seems so obvious and basic that I am starting to be tempted to switch to Kaspersky. The bug kind of indicates that BD have not done their pre-launch testing properly. A response from BD would go a long way to helping with this

Hi, any update on this feature request?

    Thanks

  • Like the Steam client, the Origin game client also triggers game mode, thereby diminishing Windows security 24/7.

I'm new to BD and I must say I am concerned that this obvious oversight (which makes me wonder if the devs even use their own product) occurs in the vital parts of BD.

I would also be concerned that BD is drifting away from their specialty--security--and into all-in-one bloatware that has absolutely nothing to do with security, lest BD be confused with IObit, et. al.

  • We inform you that the fix for this issue will be released in a couple of hours, via Bitdefender signature updates. Please make sure that the Bitdefender product updates daily, and in order to do this open Bitdefender and click Update.

Umm...NOT solved; my Steam client still puts BD in game profile. I've updated and reboot several times in the past 3 days.

Nope, XFire is still in Game mode. Battle.net as well...still waiting for some White list.

  • The Game profile in BD 2015 disables the Windows auto update function among other changes.

    [...]

I was trying to figure out why Windows Update kept getting disabled for a month pulling my hair out over the issue before I locked the setting via Local Security Policy. Now I know what was going on.

This bug seriously needs fixed. I wonder how many people have security issues due to no Windows Security Updates thanks to this bug. Automatically enabling game mode should happen less often then it should rather than too often. If it happens less often then it should not a big deal but if it is enabled too often it is a security concern.

Why hasn't this been fixed yet? Remove a few triggers for Game Mode via bitdefender update and call it a day already!

Steam is still triggering Game mode for me, even when running in the background.

Please let us know as soon as this is fixed.

  • 6 months and still not fixed--it makes me wonder just how much they bit off more than they could chew (heh, "bit")...

Hello and thank you for your feedback.

The signature update released back in December should have removed by now Steam from the list of apps that trigger Game Profile.

Let me check again with our testing team. I will post back new information as soon as I hear from them.

  • Also "Fraps" is included by default in the Game profile which shouldn't be. Please try and fix this and to prevent future problems you should add an option to exclude applications from profiles which will make this process much easier and efficient.

  • I can confirm that Steam and Origin is still triggering Game Profile on Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2015

    Hello,

Please update Bitdefender to solve this.

If Steam still triggers Bitdefender Game Profile afterwards, check if you have any running gaming/video card software or game managing systems, besides Steam/Battlenet/Origin.

Thank you, we are looking forward to your results!

Now my PC is on game mode all the time. Is there a way for me to submit my systeminfo for you guys to troubleshoot what is triggering game mode?
