From Bitdefender Support today:

Dear XXXX,

Thank you for your interest in our security solution, Bitdefender, and for having contacted us.

We apologize for the delay of our response and we assure you that we will answer in a timely fashion from now on.

We kindly inform you that Bitdefender is not compatible yet with Windows 10 ,because it is still in Beta testing therefore Bitdefender is not yet optimized for it.

and when we will have a product that will be compatible with Windows 10 you will see it on our website.

XXXX, please let me know if I could offer you further information.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Marius Dogarescu

In all seriusness I think the e-mail from Bitdefender support, confirms there will not be a Beta as such but just an update that will require a restart. Christian will probably note it in his update post. However rest assured if you are not sure when Bitdefender is supporting W10 you can always go to their website and read the website looking for Windows 10.

    Hiya Nesivos,

I don't think that confirms there will not be a 2016 beta, just that there will not be a beta for Windows 10 compatibility and they have to ensure their existing product works with it. It is still fairly early in the year for a 2016 beta.

Note I wrote "Beta as such". It is in Beta now according to the email. I doubt we will see a "public Beta" release for W10 compatibility. They are probably eating their own dog food to Beta test it. Besides W10 is not done changing and there are only eight weeks left until releasse. Remember we are only talking about some tweaks to insure ocmpatibility with W10. We are not talking about Bitdefender 2016 which will go through its normal Beta testing. That is how I see it. :)

Agreed, although MS have said that the major changes to W 10 are all but done and it is a polishing and optimizing job now. It would be nice for those who have Win 10 to have a little go before final release. :)

I think there will be a Bitdefender ujpate sometime in July, hopefully toward the begining of it.

I imagine they have one group of people working on the tweaks to make BD 2015 and hopefully BDW8 Security compatibble with W10

Another group of people working on BD 2016 products

Do you recall when the BD 2015 public Beta was made available? I think a lot of folks will be upset if the memory usage is not reduced in BD 2016.

I think it was around the middle of May last year with the 2015 general release about two months later

I checked and Christian's first post on BD 2015 was July 10th. Jyly 10th for BD 2016 would be in time for the Windows 10 release however we are less than six weeks away from July 10th It seems to me that not everyone will want to upgrade to BD 2016 as there will surely be a number of changes that it will include besides being compatible with W10.

I could be wrong but I think Bitdefender may have a higher priority on getting their current products compatible with W10 especially since it is free to all Windows 7 and W8.X users. I have already received my resevations for updating my W7 and W8.1 computers to Windows 10. From what testing I have done of W10 TP it is a major improvement over W7 and a noticeable improvement over W8.1. I think people will want to make the leap of faith as it were to W10, espeically W8.1 usesrs since conceptionally W8.1 and and W10 are very similar.

In any case I am sure Bitdefender will have working products for W10 on July 29th, whether it is a new BD 2016 or the current BD 2015 or prior years Bitdefender pograms updated. As we get closesr to July 29th without seeing a public Beta of BD 2016 the more lkely that BD 2015 and maybe prior years will be updated to be compatible with Windows 10 by July 29th and before we have a release of BD 2016.

Compatibility with Win 10 is very important for BD, there are going to be a lot of people moving to 10. I have already gone to 10 TP with my Windows 7 computer and reserved it for this desktop. I may sit tight for a little longer with my laptop - just in case. :P

I still hope we see an update before W 10 official release, for many users having two updates at the same time may be a bit daunting, especially if there are any minor problems. I don't envy the task that Bitdefender has on this.

-Yann- (Technical Support) has confirmed in the French section that Win 10 will be officially supported when Win 10 is released.

Sorry for multiple postis but the lack of editing posts after a very short time is at fault.

Taken from here re 3rd party AVs and Win 10 upgrade.

    3. If you are using a 3rd party antivirus and anti-malware program and decide to upgrade to Windows 10, the setup will first check whether your antivirus and anti-malware subscription is current or not. If the subscription is valid and current, Windows 10 setup will first uninstall the antivirus and anti-malware applications while taking a backup of your settings during upgrade. After upgrading, Windows will install the latest version available of your antivirus and anti-malware programs and will also restore your settings. But if your antivirus and anti-malware programs subscription is not current, Windows 10 upgrade will uninstall the security programs and will enable the built-in Windows Defender application.

Do we take that to imply that anyone running a Bitdefender AV other than the 2015 version will have it automatically updated? (Exception of Free and W8 Security).

I can tell you that the upgrade situation is quite a bit more complicated for a security solution than install/uninstall and subscription status.

I'm not sure of the amount of information Microsoft will be publishing regarding this, but they did throw in a few new requirements for this product cycle and full compliance will mostly likely not occur by RTM for the majority of vendors (but for the most part said requirements will not negatively affect users).

Also, please don't quote me on this.

And it's already a given that when/if a beta or another release will be published, you'll see it on our website, as usual.

It just happens that Microsoft is still changing some things at this time and releasing something that might crash your system on the next fast ring build might anger users quite a bit.

    Hang in there :)

Thank you Catalin. I am sure BD are working flat out to achieve a seamless transition for its users but we members are in the dark over this and can only go on suppositions. :)

I saw this article. I think Bitdefender will update all their current 2015 products and AV Free for W10 compatibility. Not sure about BD W8 Security. I think it will depend on how much effort is required to make it compatible and how many users there are of BD W8 Security. Given how much less memory it uses vs BD 2015 products and how much simpler it is to maintain I think it would be shame for them to not make it compatible with W10. Have to keep in mind that only BD W8 Security was designed specifically for W8 and that W10 is basically W8.2

I think the "if" is a bit confusing. I have no doubt there will be another Beta of Bitdefender products e.g. BD 2016. As far as there being another Beta of BD 2015 products. To my knowledge there has not been a public Beta of BD 2015 products for about 10 months and I IMO I just don't don't see it happening. It would be too confusing. Either make BD 2015 products compatible through a regular update or release a public Beta of BD 2016 hopefully in time for the Final (RTM) of BD 2016 to be available by July 29th

I wrote "when/if" so you wouldn't hold what I said as an official acknowledgement relating to unreleased products. I haven't enquired about or checked this myself and am not aware of the schedule.

Given that a new release would probably need at least a short public test period, I'd say a compatible 2015 build is more likely, but this is just my opinion. Again, this is not an official statement or promise.
