Vista Sp1 Breaks Bitdefender!

I have to admit that I'm very frustrated with BD. I've been with the product on a corporate level since version 7. I'll bet I was one of the first people to buy EM in the USA. Anyway, 2008 is proving to be quite the problem child. Nothing but trouble. We've had to remove it off of all but a few computers due to how unstable it has been. I've found it to work better on Vista than XP, until recently.

Vista SP1 did something that really messed up BD, or visa-versa. Try to do some online banking or bill paying after SP1 installation. It took 25 minutes to log into my AT&T account to check my balance. I removed BD and it took 20 seconds to log in. Obviously, something is very wrong. I re-installed BD to double check. Same results. With BD = 25 minutes, without BD = 20 seconds. What's going on here?

Anyone else having similar troubles? I own 75 three year licenses. I've made a HUGE investment in BD.

    Dear TMckeown,

Try this right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock press on open advanced settings once you are in the antivirus section press on the custom level button and uncheck scan http traffic press on ok. Did you already tried to remove your temporary internet files?

    Best regards

Scan http traffic was already disabled by the default settings. I can uncheck the antivirus and firewall and the problem still occurs. Only when I uninstall BD does the problem go away. I realize it had to be something that Microsoft changed in SP1 that is effecting BD and causing it to hang on certain web sites. No matter who is at fault, it's such a problem that I have to find a solution soon, even if it means using a different AV solution.

Any other ideas? I'd be glad to try anything at this point.

As I figure, there might be a problem related to your network hardware/drivers. Maybe, once with the SP1 update, new drivers were installed and BD is somehow incompatible with them.

    Try to:

    - uninstall and reinstall your network adapter drivers (try to install the original drivers, that came on the CD/DVD of your hardware. If those don't work, try the latest drivers from the official site)

    - uninstall and reinstall BitDefender (use BD Uninstall Tool)

If it doesn't work, try to contact support about this problem. Read this article: http://www.bitdefender.com/KB95-en--Asking...assistance.html

    Then contact LiveAssistance here: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/getSupport/

  • Thanks for the suggestions Cris. I already opened a support case. It's kind of funny. I described what version I use and the problem I'm having in the email. They sent back an email asking which version of BD I was using. I'm not sure they even read the email.

I'll check on the driver idea. The motherboard is old and used the drivers that Vista installed. It's kind of strange that all web sites work fine except just a handful of https sites for bill paying. Most of them seem to work fine, but we've run across these few that sit and spin till they finally time out.

  • Interesting,

I didn't get a chance to look for new drivers for the two computers showing this problem. I did load Vista SP1 and BD 2008 onto a notebook and didn't have the problem. That's very odd. Both of the desktops that show the problem are P4 3GHZ computers. The notebook is a 2GHZ Core 2Duo. Now, it does make me think there might be something with the vintage of the motherboards. It seems odd that it all worked before Vista SP1. ###### computers. I'm going back to pencil and paper, if I can remember how to write. <img class=" />

I look into drivers later tonight.

  • I took a look into drivers. I downloaded the latest only to find I have the latest NIC drivers installed. I uninstalled BD2008 again and did a fresh install. At first, I was able to get into my AT&T account. I thought "Great, it's solved", until I rebooted. Then, it was the same as it was before. So, I unistalled Vista SP1. Works fine now.

So, with some computers, BD2008 will not work with Vista SP1. I checked it on my notebook and it worked fine, but it didn't work for either of my desktop machines, which are 3GHZ P4 on MSI 865PE Neo2 FIS2R motherboards. Neither of those two will work with BD2008 and Vista SP1. I know I'm probably one in a million people having this trouble. I can't blame BD for not trying to fix it, most other people aren't complaining.

Lucky me since M$ hasn't released Vista SP1 on my language, yet. Will try it after SP1 available.
