Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 Is Bugged To ###### !
After numerous installs and re-installs I have binned this so called security suite and opted for ESET Smart Security, and omfg what a difference.
Smooth as silk install,no clashes with other programs,no hogging the memory due to a known bug,no update bug that is unfixable, etc.
A pleasure to use such a well programmed AV package, doesnt even clash with AVG anti spyware.
I think it's time people were told how buggy this crap is and it's selling on previous reputation.
I for one shall be passing the word around on the problems I encountered and shall never return like I did with Norton and McAfee who also
released buggy crap.

AVG Antispyware worked on my machines along with BD 2008 Antivirus and Jetico1/2 just well so i dont know whats the problem on your system.
If you like ESSET there is no need to come here and tell us just ,enjoy it silently.
If you have issues come here and name them so the people to help you.
"Hogging the memory' occures rarelly on some machines with some particular software combinations.
BD 2008 is the lightest antivirus software i ever used and be aware i tested a lot of them(unpro indeed).0 -
I agree with Drednaught. My 3 computers have been overwhelmed by Bitdefender resource consumption. Other than a basic reply blaming the other software on my computers, Tech support did not respond to my requests for help. I removed the blamed software to no avail. After removing Bitdefender and installing another program, my computers are like brand new. I have my life back!!!

I thought it was just me. I bought a 3-user license for Total inSecurity 2008 because the free version ran so well. My wife runs her business from her pc, so it was important to stitch it up well. ALL of our machines ground to a standstill after installing BitDefender TS, and it took my machine TEN MINUTES to become useable after booting up! And it's not like we can blame common apps on this, all three pc's are running different apps for different functions. Obviously my wife went totally psychotic because she couldn't work and I had to re-install NAV on her pc.
I've sent requests for help and received sod-all response for my effort. Eventually I decided to just write off the €70 I paid for BD (I never received the requested install cd hardcopy I'd ordered EITHER!)
Eventually I got so frustrated I wiped my pc, installed Linux and the ###### with BitDefender. I don't understand how they can get a product so wrong. I was really, really impressed with the free edition and thought that of all software vendors, they really deserved to get my money.
I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with this product and would have thought they would address calamitous flaws like these through the automatic updates, rather than having PAYING customers trawling all over their machines trying to solve problems of BitDefenders' design,
I didn't realise that the phrase "Total Internet Security" was a euphimism for "render the computer utterly useless"
I thought only Microsoft could get away with behaviour like this. " />0 -
I haven't experienced any resource hogging problems with BitDefender 2008.

Whoops! In all fairness, I DID receive the install CD in the post this morning!
Still no sign of any support though.
I'll keep an eye on the board for any stickys saying "Problems RESOLVED" and there's a final fix. I really just don't have the time to go re-invent the wheel for them, but if they come up with a fix, fair play to them.
In the meantime, Linux is running like lightning.0 -
BitDefender can correctly work with other security software running in realtime mode. I know that support always tells you that you need to uninstall it that is just as precaution. BitDefender support isn't the only support that will ask you to remove third party security software. I also run other secrurity software in realtime mode without any issues. To avoid problems you better close them before installing BitDefender.
I never had any (serious) issues with the BitDefender products I use them since version 8.0. I have BitDefender Internet Security 2008 installed on a vista and xp pc without any issues. Another computer is running Total Security 2008 without any issues. The most important thing to avoid problems with any antivirus you install is that you remove the previous one first. First by searching for specific uninstall tool. Afterwards use a registry cleaner to find left overs reboot the pc and than starting the installation.
Hello Tenortoon,
This is only a user forum.
Did you used the the default uninstaller of Norton? If yes you really need to run the specific removal tool. Because leftovers of antiviruses can cause conflicts. For instructions how to remove your previous antivirus see this topic. Run the BitDefender uninstall tool that you can download here. Download and run also Windows installer cleanup. Start the program and look for any references to Symantec or Norton or BitDefender in the name if so select it and press on remove confirm the warning. Search also for an enty which just numbers 11.x.xx remove it also on the same way. Reboot your pc and install BitDefender again. Be sure that every realtime security software is disabled.
It's element-5 that handles the shipping of a cd-rom and your electronic download so you have to contact their support.
Best regards
Niels
Hello DoubleX and Kage,
You can reduce the memory usage by doing this:
Right clicking on the red BitDefender icon near the system clock press on open advanced settings, press on custom level once you are on the shield tab in the antivirus section, expand scan accessed files, you can select scan program files only because by default every file is being scanned, uncheck scan packed files. You can also enable the option Do not scan files greather then 20000Kb is the default value you can change that also. You can also use the exclude option to for example exclude large program folders.
Best regards
Niels0
