Product: BitDefender 2015 Internet Security (Build 18.21.0.1497)

    System: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit - Service Pack 1)

  • Solution : I contacted microsoft

I would suggest you to check if you are able to access Windows Update service and also make sure that the following services are started. If it is not started, follow these steps:

    a. Click on Start, type “services.msc” without quotes and hit Enter.

    b. Locate “Windows Update”.

    c. Right click on the service and select Properties.

    d. In Start-up type, select Automatic.

    e. Click Start under Service status.

    f. Click OK.

    g. Repeat the steps c to f for the following services also:

    “Background Intelligent Transfer Service”

    “Cryptographic Services”

    @junq

avc.xml is the Bitdefender file that holds the settings for Active Virus Control and Intrustion Detection System. After opening the one from your message I could that it's corrupt; this is why you are dealing with this issue.

To address the issue replace in Safe Mode the file avc from C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2015\settings with the avc.xml uploaded here:

    https://www.sendspace.com/file/bpcxjv

Restart the computer normally and the issue will be resolved.

    Hi calcu007,

    Thank you for your message.

I see that your file is corrupt as well. Please apply the solution indicated here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...st&p=238853

Or upgrade for free to Bitdefender 2016 provided that your operating system is Windows 7 or higher. The steps are explained in this article:

We are here for you should you require further assistance.

  • Hi Georgia:

I have been having the same issue with IDS not holding its' setting. I attempted to access the avc.xml file and replace it per your instructions, however, I get a message that denies access saying I don't have permissions to replace the file. I then attempted to update to the 2016 product per your instructions by first transforming my license key into a Bitdefender 2016 subscription. I am running Bitdefender 2015 Internet Security on 2 separate machines --Win 7 (x64)--and my license key is 20 characters in length for some reason. My subscription shows that I have no devices. Any thoughts?

  • Active virus control AND Intrusion Detection keep turning off. No matter how many times I re-enter the settings, all the options turn off as soon as I close BD's main window !!

Try this: boot the computer in Safe Mode and copy / move / paste the downloaded avc.xml into the Bitdefender settings submap. You can bypass "access denied" this way. It kinda worked for me. For the time being, that is. Fingers crossed that the change will stick this time, though.

  • Hello, I came upon here because I have the same problem as jung and calcu007. As I see there's already a solution and it's the same for both of them but I still want to make sure if it will be the same goes for me too. Sorry for this inconvenience, I have like zero to none knowledge bout this.

Oh and am using Bitdefender 2016

Well, many thanks in advance - hope this topic is still up. ^_^

    Hello,

A quick solution for the encountered situation is to upgrade to the new Bitdefender 2016 by following the steps from this article:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/support/-1479.html

The upgrade is free of charge.

If the issue resurfaces after installing Bitdefender 2016 please open a new topic in the dedicated area:

    Thank you!

  • If you have not opened a BD Customer Care (Trouble) Ticket (T/T) for their attention and action, as this is only a community forum for users, then you have not put your issue on their radar for attention.  I recommend that as I have done so and they appear genuine in finding remedies for us all. expect to give them time to research the issue(s).

PHILOSOPHICALLY SPEAKING:  MS moved to MS 10 with the intent to place their registered product community on an automatic installed footing with the latest patch baseline as they intend to keep pace with the latest versions to achieve a more desirable outcome. So by BD use of the Autopilot feature, BD is trying to operate harmoniously with that MS goal,I suspect.  Being able to move more judiciously with successive patch growth allows users and BD to see if the patches have the desired effect at the most granular level of the game, without inducing unforeseen (new) glitches. So the MS goal could be viewed as being disruptive of commercial best practice as corporate customers have long been more cautious about introducing code fixes into their production environments, to keep it from becoming chaotic. So don't discount the possibility that BD is working the OEM vendor side of the MS approach without telling its own customer base precisely how they are moving with new release software introduction into the deployed community across many MS O/S variants.  That has to be a profound technical challenge, IMO.

Thanks for sharing and the chance to share some "old graybeard" feedback.  B/rs,  -aj-.
