Flash Games Not Working - Firefox, Unable To Get Flash Games In Neopets Working Correctly In Firefox

Similar to another users problem:

I have Bitdefender Total Security 2008 installed on my Windows Vista Home Premium edition PC. When I try to play Neopets flash games, they load up but none of the text that is supposed to appear is visible using Firefox. When I play using Internet Explorer everything is fine and the games load correctly, but I would prefer to use Firefox so I would be really grateful if anyone has any ideas.

  • Dear Sheepdisease,

That is because you need to manually install the flash plug-in for Firefox. Visit this link in Firefox.Close Firefox. To be sure that Firefox is really closed do this press the windows button together with r now type taskmgr press enter now press once on the processes name tab and look for an entry called firefox.exe if present select it and press on end process. Now run the installer.Start Firefox afterwards. Try also to install virtoolsplayer again.. Can you please make a screenshot of it? You can do that by pressing the alt button together with the print screen button on your keyboard. Open paint and paste the screenshot.

Because I am able to see text when I start a game.

    Best regards

I've already installed the flash plug-in for Firefox. Attached is a screen shot of Firefox compared to Internet Explorer.

I have BD AV normal and FF 2.0.0.13. I did checked about:plugins in FF and got:

Shockwave Flash File name: NPSWF32.dll Shockwave Flash 9.0 r115

    MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled

application/x-shockwave-flash Adobe Flash movie swf Yes

    application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie spl Yes

The games from neopets are working and even played some (funny stuff :)). They're working on FF as well as on IE. My BitDefender was set on aggressive with http scan on and it still works good. Maybe you should try to update the flash version or FF version. If this doesn't work you should also try to empty cookies and cache.

    Good Luck!

  • Hello Sheepdisease,

    Try to disable HTTP Scan.

BitDefender Security Center -> Settings -> Antivirus -> Custom Level -> Scan HTTP Traffic

Sometimes, the scanner interferes with the flash applets.

    Cris.

  • Cris, thank you for this information.

However, when I disabled this service and tried the games again, it made absolutely no difference.

  • I should have said it before...

You should disable all modules which scan internet traffic. These modules are:

    - HTTP Scanner (Antivirus)

    - Identity Control and ****** Control (Privacy Control)

    - Web Control and Web Heuristics (Parental Control)

    Cris.

  • Tried this too, unfortunately this made no difference.

    This is a stubbourne problem!

    Hello?

I don't know what causes this type of behavior because with BitDefender installed there's no similar problem. I don't think this is a BitDefender related problem, but it could be a mash-up of things (including BitDefender) that causes this.

My advice to you is to contact support over here: http://kb.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/getSupport/ following the steps from here: http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB389-en--Asking...assistance.html and ask them to assist you.

  • Thanks for this information, I am actioning it.

However this problem come from HTTP Traffic Scan.

Try to disable HTTP Scan like Cris said :

BitDefender Security Center -> Settings -> Antivirus -> Custom Level -> Scan HTTP Traffic

After that, clear the firefox's cache, clear cookies and retry to play your flash games.

Other idea : did you tried to activate the game mode ?

You just quoted my previous response to the same question asked previously.

I've already tried activating game mode.

Not only, I added this important information :

"After that, clear the firefox's cache, clear cookies and retry to play your flash games."

In my case, I can't play Neopets Flash games when HTTP Traffic Scan is enabled but they works fine without this option.

  • Hello Sheepdisease,

    Let's try this:

    If that still doesn't work:

First back-up your FireFox profile to do that take a look here.

Remove Firefox reboot your pc and install again.

Thank you for your response, I have followed all steps up to 4.3. Website states it was incompatible with Windows Vista and Firefox combination.

  • Hello Sheepdisease,

What version of Firefox are you using? This flash version is only compatible with FireFox 2.0 You can verify which version you are using by going to help, about Mozilla Firefox. Version 2.0.0.13 is the latest version. It must work on windows vista see here.Otherwise it's very strange why they state that it works on vista.

    Hello Sheepdisease,

You need to install the latest drivers for your graphics card to be able to run virtools player correctly. First I need to know which graphic (3d/video) card is installed in your computer. To receive that kind of information please do this press the windows button together with r now type dxdiag press enter. Go to the display tab and tell me what is written after name more specificly under the device section and tell me also what is written after date. You must have set your screen on 16 or 32 bit in the control panel but in this situation I think that is the case. Try the following go in Firefox to the tools menu, options (settings) navigate to the security tab press on the exceptions button near the option warn me when a site wants to install an add-in now type player.virtools.com press on add, close. Now try again to install virtools player by pressing on my link and press on the install now! button. If installation still fails you need to contact virtools.

  • Hello Sheepdisease,

I am not sure if this is going to work. Close Firefox first and download the virtools file that I have uploaded. I needed to archive because otherwise I wasn't able to upload it here. Let the zip file extract to this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\ Change C: by the drive letter or partition where your software and windows is installed. If that still doesn't work you need to contact virtools.

Where you able to install virtools? For me that wasn't very clear.

Go to this website. By product series select Geforce 8 series,Product: 8800GTX don't forget to select windows vista by operating system press on search, you have first to check the box that you accept the license agreement and press on download now. But do not install the drivers yet. Place them on your desktop. Now uninstall your previous drivers by doing this press the windows button together with r now type devmgmt.msc press enter. Expand the display adapters section now right click on the entry or entries that have 8800GTX in the name choose for uninstall if there is still another entry that has 8800 gtx in the name choose no for the question to reboot. After you uninstalled the latest entry reboot your pc. It's normal that you are now in a very low resolution run now the installer of the drivers that you previously downloaded.

    Hello Sheepdisease,

To be sure that the driver update was successfully installed it's best that you post the driver date which can be obtained by typing the dxdiag command. But I assume that you indeed have installed the latest drivers.

Do you have any security add-ins/plug-ins installed in Firefox? If so that could also be the case that it's blocking the working of virtools player and flash.

Can you please check the following settings in Firefox:

First go to the tools menu, press on the content tab see if all boxes are checked.

Download the latest java runtime version which you can find here. Do not install it yet. But first go to software,add/remove and search for entries that starts with Jave select them and uninstall them first. Reboot your pc and install it.

Install also the latest shockwave player version.

Once the installer is downloaded be sure that Firefox is closed.

  • Hello Sheepdisease,

I think that your drivers didn't updated properly because the date of your driver is 12/11/2007. So I would advise that you follow my previous instructions how to update the drivers correctly. What I also see is that the refresh rate of your screen is set too low. This will have an effect when playing 3d-games.

None of the plug-ins or add-ins you have installed are security related. But Greasymonkey could be possible to cause a conflict please disable that plug-in and close Firefox first and open it afterwards. Because with this plug-in you can change the way pages look it could be that with what you have changed the neopets website games doesn't display properly.

For your java problem please download microsoft installer cleaner from here Install it and run it search for an entry called Java select it press on remove confirm the warning. Reboot your pc. Now right click on the java installer and choose for run as administrator and see if it now works.

I'll download the drivers again, that's cool. Although I am happy with the refresh rate as I like the resolution that my monitor is set to and for that resolution there isn't a supported refresh rate that is higher.

I can confirm that I installed the GreaseMonkey add-on after I began to have problems playing the flash games on Neopets.

I've somehow managed to install Java and it's now successfully working.

  • Hello Sheepdisease,

Sorry I just saw now that you had a lcd tv as monitor. A higher refresh rate is only necessary for older crt monitors.Did you meant with successfully working that neopets now works or did you meant that java installed correctly?

Can you test if the problem also exist when you try to visit neopets on another useraccount? Did you also contacted virtools support? Because you have all necessary plug-ins installed. I don't know if the installation of virtools succeed by the way I suggested.Try to completey uninstall Greasymonkey plug-in and close and start Firefox again. For me neopets is working without any issues in Firefox. Try a complete uninstall of Firefox but first back-up your profile how to do that I already said in one of my answers.

    Hello Sheepdisease,

Alternatively, to just skip all this trouble, you can install the IE Tab Firefox plugin, and set it to automatically enable when you access Neopets. That way, you will still be in Firefox (and use it like you want and like), but the tab(s) which you open for Neopets will use the IE engine (which you said that works fine). This might actually work, so give it a try ;)

Please let us know if it works.

    Hello yann,

If you are referring to us moderators we are no support people this is only a user forum. I already had disabled parental controls from the beginning when I first installed BitDefender Total Security so I forgot to check that option. In this case the http-traffic scanner isn't the cause because I am able to play games on neopets.com with it enabled.

And I believed that I had disabled all parental controls, some of them sneakily remained enabled.

  • OK, but don't accuse us of not knowing how the software works. We might not know all the internal stuff (because we don't actually work for BitDefender), but we know how it works. ;)

I don't personally believe that our friend was referring to you guys when they said that the staff did not understand how the program worked. She was referring to the technicians who send us these emails which go into a lot of technical detail when the solution was simple.

    I frankly didn`t know that. :)

  • To beat a dead horse...

I recently purchased and installed BD Internet Security 2009. And noticed on my wife's computer that it stopped Macromedia Flash games from playing.

Because of recent virus trouble on my PC, I had the opportunity to un-install, and re-install...

    Firefox 3.0.5

    Shockwave Flash 10.0.r12

    Shockwave for Director 11.0

    Bitdefender IS 2009

There are only two extensions installed...Foxmarks (book mark synchronizer), and the Bitware phishing add-on

So as a check on my PC. I installed Shockwave before re-installing bit defender.

Prior to installing bit defender, the flash game played in firefox.

After installing bit defender, the flash games do not load in firefox.

I have completely disabled parental controls (see snapshots)

I have tried to disable the BD firewall - and revisit the game. Same thing - no flash in firefox.

I enabled game mode - still no flash in firefox.

I started FF in safe mode, and reset tool bars, etc...

I cleared the cache, cookies, etc...

No luck with flash in firefox.

I have looked for, and cannot find in bit defender IS 2009 (advanced view), an area to disable http scanning etc.. as mentioned in this thread. I'd think that disabling the firewall would turn-off everything that bd does network-traffic-wise. No?

It's not such a big deal, I mean I can always launch iexplore for those times when the Bambinos want to play some lame flash game. But I'd like to get the most out of my purchase. I am sure it's a configuration issue on my end. But I am not getting a 'warm and fuzzy' feeling reading some of the posts on this forum.
