Bdagent.exe Issues
Hey all,
I'm having some issues with BD and Win64. We've got between 6-8 machines in our office, all running BD 9.5 Professional and Win64. When we had originally looked into switching to true 64bit machines, we had talked to the representative from BD who we had bought our bulk licensing thru. He told us that 9.5 Pro would be just fine with Win64. Unfortunately, alot of our machines are having issues with BDmcon.exe not responding as machines are logged or or rebooted. This in turn, will end up with a BDagent.exe pop up saying BD took a header. On top of that, BDagent.exe will inform us VERY often that BD has stopped responding. From seeing the machines from setup to office use, its quite often, in the neighborhood of 1-3 times per day. I have the users reboot when this happens, only because of the information/data they are working on, we don't want thier machines unprotected if at all possible.
To make matters worse, I can't find ANY documentation on what seems to be, the red headed stepchild of BD. Thier support jumps from ver 8.0 to ver 10.0.....nothing on any versions in between. It'd be great if anyone could shed some light on what might be the cause of these issues. Is it Win64? Is it BD itself? I dont care what kind of an answer I get, as long as I get some kind of an answer. I'm getting frustrated having to deal with the questions, and I know the users are getting irritated having to reboot at inopprotune times.
Regards

Hello petmonster,
I don't know who told you that BDv9 will work on 64bit architecture, but that is incorrect. The 64bit version of BitDefender was only introduced once with the release of the BitDefender 2008 series (a.k.a v11). So you might want to consider upgrading to this version. Otherwise, BitDefender will run in 32bit compatibility mode (just as any other 32bit software running on 64bit machines), and that can cause problems and instability, especially because we are talking about a software that is responsible for your computer's security.
Also, BitDefender v9 is very old. The newer versions (the current 2008 series, and the future 2009 series, which will be launched very soon as beta) have much more powerful engines and protection capabilities.
In conclusion: please upgrade to BitDefender 2008 (be sure to download the 64bit version) and see if the problems persist.
Cris.
EDIT: I forgot to say that upgrading is absolutely free. You only have to remove the current BitDefender installation from your computer, install the new one, and register it with the license keys that you already have. They will be valid for the rest of the time.0 -

Thanks Cris, thats kind of what I figured. As far as upgrading to 2008, I'm a little leary of going that route, especially after having read the forums over the past few days. I'm going to do some research, look at my options, then go from there. Whether that'll include BD I can't say yet. But I do appreciate the response.

Also, I want to let you know (in case you didn't already know) that this week should be released the first BitDefender 2009 beta. You might just want to try it, maybe you'll like it. Also, if you provide valuable feedback on the beta testing campaign, you can win some prizes. More details here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=5525
