Bd 2008 Antivirus And Winxp Sp3 Update
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if any BD 2008 anti virus users have had any problems installing the Win XP SP3 update ?
So far I haven't been able to install the update due to "Access denied error " , which is access to the Windows registry . I turned off the BD registry control , and then disabled BD, and still I was unable to install the SP3 update. Microsoft has some more workarounds ,(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377) that I will try, but I was wondering if the BD registry control is having any conflicts with the update process .
I'm not accusing BD anti virus of causing problems ( odds are it's a Microsoft issue ) , just looking for possible answers .

If you are using SpyBot S&D, remove also all immunizations. I found that in another forum and it worked for me.0 -
Hi...I installed winxp sp3 update with BDIS with no problems or errors. I had registry control enabled in BD. Also no warning messages from BD...hmmmm....wonder if registry control is even functioning?
Oh well...hope this helps.0 -
Thanks for your replies . I still haven't installed SP3 . I was asking about possible interferance from my BD anti virus , because Microsoft listed anti virus issues as possible causes of installation failures .
Next , I'm going to attempt to install SP3 from a downloaded ISO image file of SP3. Hope it works.0 -
I've just installed SP3 with BDIS2008 with no problems at all. Registry control asked to allow some things, which I did and all seems o/k.
You may have conflicts with old artefacts. There is a conflict with BD Ver.10 I believe.
My experience is to allow BD complete control and remove things like SpyBot, Adaware and all their artefacts (turn off Defender in Vista) and I have no complaints about BitDefender.
It might be worth using the uninstall tool for BD with CCleaner and RegCleaner and start again. I was amazed how much c**p was on my system. There is a pinned topic about removing other AV's by Niels, on this forum.
Good luck.0 -
Not for any particular reason (it just worked out that way) I already had SP3 installed before I installed BTS 2008. No issues whatsoever, although I did take the precaution of uninstalling the security package I was using at the time (with just the Windows Firewall enabled). Microsoft does advise that you disable AV before adding SP3, but I went even further and uninstalled my AV/Firewall package just to make sure it didn't interfere.
So if you have any problems installing SP3 you may want to try uninstalling your BitDefender product first before you try again. This isn't a criticism of BitDefender. Any AV package is likely to interfere with the installation of a system service pack.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Rather than uninstall BD, could I manually kill the running BD processes such as bdagent.exe, before trying another SP3 update ?
Would there be any problem with restarting BD processes after the update ?
Thanks .0 -
Just to say, I did not uninstall BD or turn off firewall, I just downloaded SP3 with no problems, with BDIS2008 running.
What I meant was to go off line and re-install your BD version after clean up, update it, then try downloading SP3. My thought was that if you had upgraded from BD v.10, there might be some items left in registry.0 -
I'm happy to report that yesterday I successfully installed the SP3 update . And the previous failures had nothing to do with BD. I went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377/ , and used method #3 "Reset the registry and the file permissions" to enable my computer to install SP3 .
Thanks for all of your replies .0
