Bitdefender Free Antivirus not compatible with Windows 7 Update against Meltdown and Spectre?
Using Windows 7 with Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition 1.09.69 - last update time 10 minutes ago, the Windows security updates released on January 3, 2018 is not offered to me.
This Update is very important as it addresses the "Meltdown" and "Spectre" issues.
According to this article
"Customers will not receive these security updates and will not be protected from security vulnerabilities unless their anti-virus software vendor sets the following registry key: ..." (see the link).
However I verified with regedit, that my registry does not contain the mentioned key necessary to download and install the updates.
So is Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition incompatible? Will there be a solution?

Well I uninstalled BD Free and I'm still not getting that update on this computer. I did get it on my laptop. Both have AMD processors and both are running Windows 10. I have to check the tablet which has an Intel Atom. Check that. It just came through on this one.

I don't know if they'll be updating Bitdefender Free at the same time.0 -

So the screenshot showed that after PropertySystem the QualityCompat entry has been missing.
However - after today's update to version 1.09.73 I can confirm that the entry now has been added to the registry:

If you install can you please let me know whether there was any problems - some users are reporting update sticks at 0% or 99% install on Windows 10; I have come across work-around at http://sihmar.com/fix-kb4056892-download-stuck-99/ - I CAN'T VERIFY VALIDITY as I am not installing any Windows Updates myself, but I do have a friend who is wanting this patch.
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 SP1 following a bad Windows Update and turned updates off; more bother than malware imo. Actually Microsoft has published the updates (that were intended for next Tuesday rollup) for Win7 and 8 even yesterday. Today - after my registry had been updated by the Bitdefender FAV update, I was able to download the cumulative MS-patch for Windows 7 64bit, using the Windows Update feature. I was able to update without any issues then.
So far so good...

My main desktop and laptop running Windows 10 64 bit with Bitdefender Free AV able to install the update through Windows Update. Bitdefender Free AV automatically add the registry key during its update and no need to reboot. There's no problem at all during the installing and after installing.0 -

We still need Intel to release a security patch for Meltdown and Spectre as well. Microsoft already done their part for the Meltdown vulnerability.0
