Hello guys. Found a bug. Watch the event log, i did a screenshot. It is 100% based on the latest version of BD Total Security 2018.

System config:

New installed, fresh Windows 10 Creators Update, Version: 16299.248

BITDEFENDER. Always the same PIEP with you. You spend Software, that is not approved bout bugs. WHY. So easy to watch the reg entries or event viewer. Why not a monkey does it. This event log entry is not good. Sound it does a defect onto the Hardware. And you let this Software out to the customers? Why not any monkey there does not check the Software, before u bring it out onto the customers? Why it is ME that always has to check it? BTW we have entries like current control set 2,3,4 in the registry. Empty. Why. Hkey current machine blah current control set 002, 003, 004 WTF Bitdefender should pay me money for the work i do here.

Ummmm ok......hard to take you seriously when you rant like a lunatic. I just checked the Event Log and I don't see any "warnings" here. So if you're Communist shouldn't you be using the state sanctioned Kapersky ? Or perhaps you're a shill for Kapersky ?

I, along with TC and someone else, appear to have started getting this ever since yesterday as well. An event ID 51 upon startup for every installed disk drive(Description: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk#\DR# during a paging operation.)

As nothing else has changed in the past 24 hours and because it would freakishly coincidental for all of our drives to start acting up all of a sudden, I think it's fair to point fingers at a broken Bitdefender update as the culprit, considering that Bitdefender is the common thread here.

Now, while I can't exactly prove that Bitdefender is the cause of this, but considering that the only daily thing that changes on my computer are Bitdefender updates, and the fact that I've found other people who have also encountered this issue at the same time that I have, and also happen to run Bitdefender, I think it's safe to say that Bitdefender is the root of this.

Technically the errors seem to be superficial since everything still runs the same as usual, but I would still like to see this fixed.

What are we supposed to be looking for in Win 10 Event Viewer ? I'm not seeing anything here but I might not be looking in the right place.

Can you point me to where this Error should show up in the Event Viewer ? I don't see anything here but I might be looking in the wrong place. I don't use the Event Viewer so it's very likely user error on my part.

Under "Warnings", they only appear at whatever time you boot up. Sorry I can't get a picture of my own at the moment.

The only reason I would "know" it is BD, is that I did a clean install this morning on this PC, and this is the only time I see this error, right after the install. I had BD installed on this PC about 3 days ago, and uninstalled it, so it was before this last build/update?, as I don't see this error past today in the log.

I was looking under warnings and just did so again and I don't see any warnings here.

I think it's become painfully apparent that Bitdefender products can no longer be trusted. No response to "support" tickets. No response on their "support" forum. This is absolutely unacceptable performance for any software company.

I get free licenses for the McAfee security suite from my ISP so I'm thinking about uninstalling BD TS. Think about that....someone who has been a loyal fan of BD for so long is thinking about replacing it with McAfee which has a horrible reputation.

I'm going to try to find a way to get a message to Florin Talpes to let him know how bad his company and software have become.

So what are the alternatives ? Kapersky is out due to it's connection with the Russian Government. What would you guys use instead of BD ?

I've deleted the Bitdefender malware from this system and replaced it with the the free McAfee Suite I get from my ISP. So far it's performing well. Let that sink in BD...someone deleted your security suite and replaced it with McAfee. I'd be embarrassed.

Of course it's subpar and that's why BD should be embarrassed that anyone would replace Total Security 2018 with McAfee. But it's nice to be able to boot this computer and not have to wait 10 minutes to do a simple morning update. I don't engage in risky behavior. I don't steal music or software. I don't visit torrents. I don't open email attachments etc. Trust me it's very sad that I would have to uninstall a BD product because it's performance has gotten so bad as I've used and loved the software for many years (I even won "fan of the month" on their Facebook page). It's not just the long updates but there are bugs with the security widget display status which I have reported twice including screenshots with no response. The last update I did with BD TS on this system before deleting it I noticed that there was a lot of activity on my external USB hard drive that stopped when the BD update was done. Why would it be accessing my external drive for a virus update ? I also notice a lot of disk reads when doing an update so no telling what BD is reading off my hard drive. Then there is the issue with drive errors that others have reported. So all that adds up to me deleting TS on this system and going with McAfee at least for the time being. If BD software is buggy then how do we know the protection isn't buggy as well ? If Bitdefender gets their act together and fixes the bugs and issues with it's software I will happily delete McAfee and go back to using BD TS 2018. I truly hope that happens but after a month of trying to get an issue fixed I have less and less faith that I will be able to trust TS 2018 again. I still have TS 2018 installed on two computers but I don't know for how long. I have some time left on my 5 licenses but as things stand right now I will not be renewing my licenses.........

Oh and to expand on the thought that Security Software can become a Security Risk simply follow the Kaspersky story. From the link provided: "The Kaspersky antivirus software somehow alerted Russian intelligence to the presence of the NSA files, and Russian spies then targeted the NSA staffer's computer and copied files from the machine, according to the WSJ". https://www.tomsguide.com/us/is-kaspersky-safe,news-25983.html So it's not wise to blindly trust any Security Software. I'm not saying the Bitdefender software is a risk but I am saying....trust no one.

This problem is approved. I do not mention the guys that tried to bug me before - this problem seems to be serious. I tested that on several machines. It is approved.

For me it is worse.

Since the last update I also have the mentioned event 51 messages.

But on top of that when doing a full system scan, after a while i get a bluescreen

It also logs an event about "The device, \Device\Harddisk2\DR2, has a bad block."

It breaks on my intel rst raid 1 set, I spent the whole week scanning the raid set for bad blocks, then broke the raid array into 2 separate disks also scanned them and they are fine.

Now when I do a full system scan on the disks when they are not in raid (so I have 2 identical content drives in windows) the full system scan completes fine.

As soon as I recreate the raid array, blue screen at full system scan again. Obviously the raid array has to rebuild again for a few hours every time this happens

Happy to find this topic, not happy that I have been searching for a hardware issue the whole week, scanning for bad sectors, multiple backups and restores, which I can now point to the latest bitdefender update.

First: Thanks so much for bringing up this new BD issue and creating this post!

In my case Windows 10 and HD Sentinel were reporting failing SSD drives since 28th of February. This happened on all my machines. SMART health dropped from 100% to 50% and event viewer was full of faulty block messages. This is usually indicates a failing SSD.

Your update triggered my Samsung NVMe SSD drive firmware (!) to go to FAILED health status! 1 day after uninstalling Bitdefender it's back to 100% health. In addition all failed block events in W10 event viewer stopped appearing. This is not "just reporting issues" it's causing actual hardware issues and this is crossing a very red line for me.

Using and paying Bitdefender (for 3 years already) seems to cause more problems than it prevents... Auto renewal for my licenses is stopped now and I will reconsider my antivirus purchasing decisions soon. You guys have major software QC issues to resolve.

Thanks so much for posting! This is shocking proof that Bitdefender is not just causing a "reporting issue" but actually damages drive setups / firmware.

I don't use RAID but did the same surface scans and nothing is wrong with the drives. I'm clueless how BD manages to cause such massive problems, cost and wasted debugging time for its customers...

I'm seeing these events on my 3 computers. They are not isolated to Windows 10 only as I have a mixture of Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.

The eventlog errors started on 28 februari and are 100% sure caused by bitdefender. Uninstall it and they are gone, Reinstall and here we go again.

Support dismissing them as just "reporting issues and not correlated with an actual issue" shows their competence level...

So windows OS is just generating these disk errors/warnings for nothing ?

This ( and the unc network issue ) are not minor issues anymore.

I regrettably own a 2 year license just from late december 2017, anyway if it's not solved in the next 2 weeks, I'm done with Bitdefender.

i have tried several other suites before, each of them has flaws, but these are major issues.

Bitdefender's support is poor to non-existent while these issues are so easy to replicate.

Fixed? Check on your end if you still get the Disc 51 warning. As of this morning, I no longer get that error on 2 PCs running Windows 7 professional. Last 51 events were yesterday. So it was either an update that happened last night, or 1 this morning that did include a reboot. I did 2 restarts without any disc warnings.

yes looks like they fixed it, I also had a bitdefender update (with restart) yesterday. and the eventlog warnings & errors are gone since then.

Just did a full system scan and no more bluescreens or other errors.

Nice silent fix, pity that they do not tell that something was actually wrong, not on my support ticket, and not on this forum.

I got the same issue, even sent a error report through it's tool a week or so ago with HD Sentinel and event logs. No feedback whatsoever. On my father's laptop too, so this is no coincidence! Is this issue fixed for everyone? I have been using Trend Micro, and I don't want it on my system forever.

So a case of Bitdefender saying "It's Not a Problem, no need to worry" then "Let's slip a fix in and hope no one notices" ? How can anyone trust a company like this ? *Sigh* I've lost faith in BD after being one of their most loyal customers for many years. When you upset your best fans you've done something wrong. I'd fire the whole management team and start over.

At the same time I can confirm that the problem doesn't occur anymore on my machines since yesterday. No more event log entries 7,11,51 and SMART health status 100% again on all (NVMe) SSDs.

In addition I reinstalled Bitdefenter Total Security and now run the following version numbers:

Bitdefender Agent 22.0.10.78

Bitdefender Device Management 22.0.18.224

Bitdefender Total Security 22.0.19.242

How they went about the silent fix may be one thing, and that support here on the forum may not be to "chatty" about informing us what was going on, or what they did. But what did impress me was that this issue was reported on Feb 28th, and fixed on March 6th. Also, it looks like the Full Scan issue for some was also fixed with that same same update. For that, I will give BD a, good job, in taking care of these issues so quickly. Now, if they can just resolve the slow update issue, they may win some people back?

Hi everyone,

bad news from my side. Since 11th of March the problem is back on my machines.

9859 errors type 7,11,51 within the last 7 days. Uninstalling Bitdefender solves the problem. Something is totally out of control with the recent Bitdefender client!

But sure "it's just a reporting issue" and we don't need to communicate with our paying customers in regards to this problem...
