BitDefender starts blocking some legitimate secure websites

Options

This is the case for a Win10 Pro 64 laptop and a MacBook Pro laptop, both having the free BitDefender version and being in a home WiFi network. All those sites (on https, but not all of them), like our bank, were used by us frequently before the last days BitDefender updates. Currently I have to disable BitDefender to go to those sites. Any solution in sight, please?

    EDIT...

The worst part of all this is needing to TURN OFF BD to access legit sites and then forgetting to turn it back on.

After participating in this thread at the beginning of Nov, I thought the issues had been resolved.

Yesterday and again this morning I was blocked from two Ireland legitimate sites while vacation planning. If I turn BD off access is ok. I posted to the following thread but there seems to be little attention:

    /index.php?/topic/77852-bitdefender-blocking-multiple-legitimate-secure-websites/&tab=comments#comment-277513" rel="">https://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?/topic/77852-bitdefender-blocking-multiple-legitimate-secure-websites/&tab=comments#comment-277513

So now I am here and probably one step away from giving up on BD altogether.

This is not only frustrating but completely unacceptable.

I am just trying to get simple bus routes in Dublin Ireland.

    Bitdefender blocks
    https://www.dublinbus.ie/

I thought this crap was resolved last month.

    Here's another one.
    https://www.rockunion.ie/

    Why does BD hate Ireland?

What is a good free alternative?

  • Well, I did it; not that i really wanted to but was forced to.

I have switched to Avast and will see how that goes.

I would still prefer BD because of it's simplicity but an ongoing fight just to get into legitimate sites has chased me off.

    Too bad, really.

These websites are not being blocked on Virus Total by Bitdefender; this will discourage people from using Bitdefender free , but sure enough they will not switch to the paid version.

What about MSE? Has excellent results on AV Comparatives.

  • You could try Kaspersky Free if you want.

    MSE? God no.

Kaspesky free doesn’t even have real time protection, god no.

try Avast or Avira Cloud with Comodo Firewall. Sometimes I wonder if you people are joking or not when recommending products

    Glad to hear it.

  • Unfortunately, https://outlook.office365.com/ is not working anymore, unless I disable the protection.

  • This is getting crazy... I mean, it's like every other website I go to is all of a sudden blocked by Bitdefender Free.

    carfax.com

    cosmicleaf.com

    ifixit.com

    mycheckfree.com

    openlinksys.com

    slacker.com

On top of it, it is now preventing Youtube videos from playing.  What is going on???

I'm having the same problem on Windows 10 Pro using Bitdefender free edition.

Everything was working fine, but since the past couple of days I am unable to access multiple secure website (including government websites) and also YouTube loads but doesn't play any videos.

If I turn off protection or add a site in exclusion list then it loads fine. But adding YouTube doesn't help probably because its videos are hosted on other severs.

I also don't want to go about adding every site I'm unable to open in the exclusion list.

I hope there is a solution to this.

  • Same issue for me:. Windows 10, 32-bit machine, Antivirus Free Edition 1.0.11.5, last update a few minutes ago (19/02/2018 15:20:47).

Several https sites are blocked, including rspb.org.uk, Morrisons supermarket, Ocado.com, all giving this message:

    "Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.rspb.org.uk. SSL received an alert record with an unknown alert description. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_UNKNOWN_ALERT"

If I turn protection off, I can access the sites.

For example, on Ocado.com, if protection is off, I can view the website's certificate which is issued by DigiCert SHA2 Extended Validation Server CA. With protection on, Bitdefender says that the site is not secure and doesn't even acknowledge that it has a certificate.

I've only been using the Free version for a week, with a view to possibly upgrading to the Pro version but I have to say that my confidence in Bitdefender is failing by the minute. I certainly wouldn't pay money for the Pro version of something that doesn't work correctly in the free version, so I am about to look at other options.

Wow, my Bitdefender free just blocked the USDA.gov site saying it was a malicious site.  This problem obviously hasn't gone away.  It's been reported for over  4 months now:

    /index.php?/topic/77596-traffic-blocked-lan-and-net/&do=embed" style="height:328px;max-width:502px;">

Is this EVER going to get fixed?  I've been running it with protection off for those 4 months, hoping somehow they would actually acknowledge and fix their mistakes.

Perhaps this horse is finally dead and beating it will just not serve a purpose anymore.  I guess it might finally be time to move on.  Sorry to say goodbye Bitdefender!

This should be fixed by now.... :/

  • Hi.

I have discovered a fix for FireFox. Go to the config file (URL: about:config) and search for security.enterprise_roots.enabled . Toggle this to true and things should start to work, I suspect that something is wrong with the BD certificate. More as I discover it.

    Hello,

    Please try the following:

    1. Open Chrome

    2. In the address bar type chrome://flags/

    3. Here, look for and disable Experimental Quic Protocol

    4. Restart Chrome.

Let me know if this helps.

  • Switched yesterday from Avira - which was blocking MY OWN Visual Studio programs - to BitDefender Free. I use Firefox and have done for years. Unfortunately, around half the regular websites I use were blocked in Firefox by BitDefender as "insecure websites". Some let me add an Exception, some wouldn't let me. I was able to access them in Google Chrome, but I don't want to use Google Chrome.

I went to the BitDefender site to see if there was a way to send details of my problem. The one amusing moment in the whole saga then happened. Image attached below.

    Oh dear.

    Oh deary dear.

What does one do now? Leave, I think. It'll have to be Avast.

    Adios.

  • Can you recommend any alternative antiviruses? I watched this list. What is better to use?
