I understand Bitdefender is most likely working on a solution but the lack of information provided to us customers is mind boggling.
That's right.
I understand that the problem can be (contrary to appearances) very complicated but it would be good if someone informed, even generally, what is happening... This is not the software we all use for entertainment.0 -

Apparently Bitdefender is working on it and it is important to them.
However I have to ask myself how the heck this wasn't properly tested (this is hardly an edge case) and why it takes over a month to fix this.0 -
Very disappointing response from Bitdefender.
No caring about customers...0 -

Fairly disgusted with the lack of thought for this issue , ive lost countless hours of work on my external hard drive , having to completely turn my pc off , just to safely remove my hard drive is inexcusable

Thank you for contacting Bitdefender.
We kindly inform you that we are aware of this situation and our developers are working around the clock to fix it.
We do not have a workaround yet, though some users reported that disabling Scan flash drives from Antivirus settings and connecting the drive a few minutes after the computer started, prevented the issue from occurring. You can try this, though the workaround does not work in all cases.
If above workaround does not work, as a last resort, please temporarily shutdown your computer everytime you need to remove the USB drive.
We will let you know once a fix will be released through automatic product updates.
, i thought AVG was rubbish , it is , but the service of this mob is just as bad0 -
it's unbelivable the time needed to fix a know bug...0 -

This is live and being automatically downloaded?
There are two problems.
1) Performance
2) Ejecting USB drives.
Thanks for info.

Oh and the other major problem is that we can't turn off nag notifications when disabling features like we could in the last version, meaning BD is always warning about security problems and saying it's insecure (if you turn off a feature). Brilliant simply brilliant. Hope that's sorted as well (not holding my breath).0 -

Hello Tekno303,
I forced the update ...
You have to uninstall-reinstall BD
You're clearly doing the beta testing before they fully roll it out. I will wait, fingers crossed something happens by Friday.
Still silent treatment by BD.0 -
Hi...Not in my case either. I reinstalled BD to build 23.0.11.48, but I still cannot remove my external backup hard drive. It is constantly in use.0 -
Hello Ozziebear,
Do not be mad at me for my silly question ...
Did you reboot your computer after the update ?
In my case, I could have said what Tekno303 wrote just above :
"all my hard drives are now ejecting straight away and i can also confirm that my computer is whisper quiet ,so the issue of BD constantly reading drives is also gone"

Yes I rebooted after the update. That is standard procedure for me.

So we are still waiting. The first post about this problem was on September 3! If it didn't apply to me, I would even find this situation funny...0 -

This is what Yann ( BD staff and technical support) wrote on the French forum
I can not give you all the corrections that come with this changelog, because many relate to issues that you
have not encountered and that have not been mentioned in this forum.
However, I can give you some fixes that come with this build 23.0.11.48:
- Different vsserv crashes
- Bitdefender preventing the ejection of USB external drives
- Vsserv did not stop during a request to restart the computer
- Various crashes of seccenter
- The product was looping the connection to the Bitdefender Central account
The following main issues, raised in this forum, are remaining:
- ON SOME CONFIGURATIONS, Bitdefender causes a constant read and write activity.
- http scanning prevents communication with Canon network printers (fixed, under test, probably in the next update)
- General slowdown of the system when Firefox was launched at least once
- Bitdefender blocks Battle.net updates

It seems a little weird. One of my computers after a few restarts started to behave correctly (no continuous readings, I can remove USB drives).
So the problem seems to be partially solved. At least for some configurations (?). Maybe it's the result of updating to 23.0.11.48, and then some additional updates?
Edit: a few minutes later - I restarted the computer again and the problem is back. So in my case the problem is still unresolved.0 -
Do we belong to the few lucky ones ?
I have NO problems any more ( BDTS2019 23.0.11.48 - Windows 10 -1809 - 17763.55)0 -

In my case the problem returned. As I edited the previous post - after one more restart the problem returned. I have the same configuration as yours.0 -
says the problem is still there is wrong (joking). I got an email earlier from Bitdefender saying the issue is resolved and we can rely and trust on them when it comes to fixing issues (sarcastic). Here is the email I received:
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
The issue you have reported regarding the fact that you were not able to eject removable drives while Bitdefender was installed should have been fixed in the latest Bitdefender build 23.0.11.48
In order to receive this update, please reinstall Bitdefender 2019 from the Control Panel, by following the steps in this article:
To make sure you have the latest build after the process is complete please right click on the Bitdefender icon from the system tray, choose About and look at the Product Information.
I am sorry for this entire situation and I appreciate you time and patience. Just remember, we’re always an email away if you need help.
Best regards,
Sergiu Colgiu
Technical Support Engineer
I'm not installing this crap junk software back on my machine until you guys and gals say the problem is resolved. I trust your responses!

Just got the update and still can't unplug my external hard drive that I use for backups but tried another one & can unplug it ok now, whereas I couldn't before. I'm still getting the same message if I try to disconnect my backup ext. hard drive. Might have something to do with the settings on this drive, as I'm pretty sure it's finished the backup. Also I can now submit a Ticket which I couldn't before so at least that's working & I've submitted one regarding this issue with attached files which might help BD work out what's going on.0 -
I just restarted my system again after some updates & tried to reproduce the issue & now I can safely remove my usb connected external hard drives including my USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device shown in earlier attached screenshot. Maybe it was still backing up when I previously tried to safely remove.
So hopefully this issue is fixed. I'll update if any changes.
Thanks Bitdefender. That was doin' my head in;-)0 -
In the updated build (23.0.11. 48 on Windows 10 ver 1803 build 17134.345 ) I'm still having the issue of the drives still being accessed and constantly writing/reading. It is not allowing the drives to go to sleep and causing heat and high temperature warnings on the drives.0 -
Hello,
I've marked this bug (external drives/usb sticks cannot be ejected) as fixed, as several of our customers have confirmed the issue is no longer occurring, and our own tests indicated that as well.
If you're still having this particular issue (not being able to eject the drives), please contact us at bitsy@bitdefender.com to let us know, and we'll investigate your particular case.

If you have the issue of drives being constantly active, I've split some of the posts on that in a new thread as it is being investigated as a separate issue, you can post in there:
Thank you!0 -
I can confirm that the safe removal of usb attached disks issue has been solved in the .48 version.
However, the issue with constant disk read/write is not solved. Restarting wmi helps for a session, have to do it over and over again after shutdown/start or restart
This is a serious and alarming bug.0 -

As well as my part! But I'm not willing to experiment constantly and pay for it!0 -

Is there any was to trigger this update short of uninstalling and reinstalling? I'm still on the older version.0 -

The update is sent in waves to users picked randomly, so we can't send out the update to a specific user. It should reach 100% deployment soon, however the only way to speed up the process is to reinstall.0 -
Just has one external HDD fail. I didn't unplug it damnit.0 -
Have the new version (23.0.11.48) ... can disconnect external hard drives, but there is a still activity at both my ext.HDD.
Please repair it, otherwise I leave my subscription. Sorry, but this is not fair play !!!0 -
A flippin' good product spoilt by (untested?) technical fiddling. Hoping you get this sorted soon because I really don't want to change to another antivirus suite.0 -

And the next funny things is, that one of my extrnal HDD is completely empty, but still blinks...0 -
Just an observation and a guess as a long-time BD user. My USB 3.0 copy write speeds to a WD My Passport drive originally used to be the range of 100 MB/s to 110 MB/s. About two years ago, this slowed to between 80 MB/s to 90 MB/s. I attributed that sudden reduction in copy speed to Windows 10, since every version update "borks" my USB 3 write speeds down to 25 MB/s to 35 MB/s because Windows overwrites my Renesas USB 3.0 drivers and replaces them with their own. I reinstall my Renesas USB 3 drivers and I am back up to 80 MB/s to 90 MB/s copy write speeds.
I copy system images (approximately 130 GB) weekly from an internal backup hard drive to the WD My Passport external hard drive, just as added protection against a ransomware variant that might encrypt system backup files, so copy speeds are something that I watch.
Interestingly, on October 26, when I copied the system image files to the external drive, the USB speeds were 80 MB/s to 90 MB/s as per usual. Yesterday (November 2), my USB 3 write speeds were back at the 100 MB/s to 110 MB/s original speeds.
There were no Windows update in the interim, and I did not install any software or updates that would account for restoration of my original USB 3.0 speeds. The only "suspect" that I can think of is the latest BD version update that fixed the USB hard drive ejection issue during that time frame. In correcting that USB ejection problem, I wonder if the developers also corrected a possible issue where former versions of BDTS were "throttling" USB 3 write speeds to some extent.
I would be interested to learn if anyone else has noticed this phenomenon.
Have a great day.
Regards,
-Phil0
