Log On Issue & More
Hello,
I've read several pages here and didn't see my problem asked or answered so if
this is a duplicate thread I apologize.
Last Thursday night I downloaded Bitdefender antivirus 2008 to my pc running IE 6.
This is my 3rd year with BD and I've always been happy with it.
I haven't been able to reach anyone at BD in any forum; email, live chat or phone.
Their web site simply does not respond to me.
After I'd installed and registered it, with each web site that I visited I had to click "yes"
several times to get through to it. Even after clicking yes at my email site, I still have
a hard time getting in. As annoying as it is to give it several tries, I do eventually get
in there. I also can get in everywhere else I try except ONE site, of which I frequent
often. It's a simple message board, nothing to do with anything nasty or ****** so I see
no reason why it's being blocked. I have gone everywhere there is to go in BD and on
my pc to enable cookies, allow this and that and still cannot access that one site. I even
tried using the proxy server that someone in here gave the link to and oh my word, once
I got to the sign on page of my site, BD went wild telling me over and over that they'd
blocked viruses! I accessed the site this afternoon on my roomates laptop with NO
problem.
One more issue, all of a sudden I can't delete the contents of my desktop trash bin.
It asks if I want to delete said items, I say yes, the little bell dings but the items remain.
Right up until I downloaded the new av my pc did what it was supposed to do.
Can anyone here help me?
Sorry this is so long!
Thank you!
Haha, as I was looking for the button to send this, BD popped up telling me they blocked
a virus! The only window I have open is this one! And yet another one while I was
previewing this.

Hello OhNo,
Did you enabled ****** control and cookie control in the privacy control section of BitDefender? If so that can explain why you always need to confirm. Cookie control can be annoying you can save your choice by selecting remember this option. Please try to add the site to the BitDefender Antiphising by clicking on the BitDefender Antiphising toolbar in Internet Explorer. Press show white list now enter that one site and press on add. Did you created identity rules?
It might be a false positiv please make a new topic in this section.
Normally BitDefender doesn't block files from being deleted from the recycle bin only when an infection is found and BitDefender denies all access. Try this reboot your pc press several times on the F8 button before the windows splash screen select safe mode press enter. Log in with your account and try to empty your recycle bin.
Best regards

Hi Niels,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.
I did as you said and still I can't access the site.
One new thing I've noticed, I also can't sign in to youtube or photobucket.
As for the recycle bin, now when I delete something and open the bin, it
says there are no items to display.
I found a phone # for BD, hopefully it hasn't been disconnected, and
maybe someone there can tell me what to do about these issues.
I think you gave very complete and sound advice so it will be interesting
to see what 'they' have to say.
If I get the answers, I'll share them here so anyone else running across
these sort of problems may be able to correct them before they pull out
all their hair.
Again, thanks Niels.0 -
Hello OhNo,
Parental Control can also cause this problems but not in your case because Parental Control is only included with BitDefender Internet Security and BitDefender Total Security.
It could be that you have set the protection level too high in Internet Explorer. Go to tools, internet options (settings),security tab and set it on default-to high and press on apply and ok.
Try this also remove also you temporary internet files. Close outlook express and Internet Explorer. To be sure that they are closed press the windows button together with r and typ taskmgr press enter if necessary press on the processes tab if you find iexplore.exe or msimn.exe. Left click on them and choose kill process. Now do this.
If it still doesn't work try iefix. You can download it here.
For the site being falsely detected that can only be solved by posting here on this forum or by telling it to techincal support.
If you press the shift+del(ete) to remove a folder or file than it's normal that you will not find anything in the recycle bin.

Hi Niels,
I gave up.
After trying everything you and BD techs said, I just gave up.
During the 'repair' process I got the error notice that that the
repair had encountered a problem and could not continue.
At that point it gave me two options; either cancel the repair, and
be right back where I started from, or uninstall. I chose to uninstall
as I just don't have the patience or the time to play with an av program.
I immediately downloaded and installed a highly recommended av
and have had no problems.
Thanks for trying to help. What a nice person you are to do this.0 -
Hello OhNo,
You could always tried the specific BitDefender uninstall tool which you can download here. Sometimes when you didn't closed BitDefender in the system tray and you start the repair installation such error can occur. I hope that you enjoy your new antivirus. Good to hear that you appreciated my suggestions.
Best regards,
