Device Identification

in Bitdefender home scanner


After a scan is completed, how do I identify which device is which?  The report states that all is OK but that there are 7 devices connected to my network.  Some are obvious but some aren't so I would like to use the edit facility to rename all the devices to something more meaningful.

    Thank you for your feedback.


    The Home Scanner tries to identify the devices are correct as possible. If that is not possible it will identify them by their IP/MAC address.

    Thanks for your reply. The problem was that not all devices were obvious for example my Sony DVD player showed as "Hong Hai Precision Ind. Co. Ltd." and my HP computer showed as "Micro-Star INT'L CO., LTD". Very confusing. However all sorted now. Thanks again.

    The only possible solution to your answer is by knowing your device MAC address. Assuming your query related to smartphones like iPhone or Android, kindly go through below link to find your device MAC address.

    Now, moving on forward, when you will install bitdefender home scanner & run it, it will display all the devices connected to your network (only devices connected through Wi-Fi) and you can manually click on one device at a time and it will open and provide you additional information with the device MAC address. You can then match the MAC address with the MAC address of your iPhone or Android & you will be easily able to find which device belongs to whom.

    I cannot identify which computer is which in Bitdefender Central because it does not allow me to give it a description at installation, but uses some internal Windows secret ID number. Why doesn't Bitdefender let me give each computer a name I can easily identify??
