Heavy use of System Memory(RAM)
for some reason bit defender is using up a lot of memory which is unacceptable... this has been working fine until the latest update. futher more there are times when the processor spikes up too. what seems to be the problem?
please can you help..as it gets difficult to use the pc after some time and this is unnaceptable compared to other antivrus application. it a waste of resources when you actually need that memory for another application.

Hello @Praetorian and welcome to the Community!
500 MB RAM is not considered to be heavy usage and RAM usage will only affect the functionality of the device in the event it runs out of memory, which is unlikely at this rate.
By comparison, how much RAM was being used prior to the latest update?
Best regards.

Bitdefender is using 670 MB of memory. This is almost twice as much as MS Edge is using. What's wrong with Bitdefender's memory usage... poor programming???

Same problem in Win 11 a year later

For me, it can start at 375 to even 425 MB, then it settles down to around 200 MB. Sometimes it's at 175, but mostly around 200-225 MB.

Hello.
Here is a screenshot from my laptop's task manager, that i've just got:
Laptop: Asus X551CA
Purchased: April 2014
Specs: Intel Core i3-3217U 1.8GHz, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4GB DDR3
Hardware change: November 2018, 500GB HDD -> 120GB SATA-III SSD
OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 64-bit, build 19045.2728, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0, with the latest updates installed
I'm a Bitdefender Total Security user since 2017 and Bitdefender never had any impact on the performance of my laptop.
Just a note that Mozilla Firefox (with opened tabs YouTube and Facebook) was running, while taking the screenshot.
Regards.

Does it ever settle down after a bit? I'm fine until I do shut down and restart. In waking out of sleep mode, it's still within the 200-225 MB range.

I have the pc on for 4 hours straight and these are the values: even doing a reboot the data remains about these that I attach.

That's not right, I would get a hold of support. You can follow the steps below, to be ahead of them in what they may need to help you.
Create a log file on your Windows PC by using Bitdefender Support Tool, following these steps:
https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1733/
Then create a log file on your Windows device using BDsysLog, by following these steps:
https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1922/
Then get a hold of Bitdefender Consumer Support by e-mail.
https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/
You will get an automated reply from Bitdefender support, with your ticket number.
In that reply, you can send your image above along with the log files created.
I hope they get this sorted out for you,
Scott
