slow internet.. due to bitdefender..

I have bitdefender plus v10.... which I have used for months now no prob's... then the other day it did a update which came with a patch .. then I noticed my internet speed and dropped off from 2meg down to 256.. so I took bitdefender off and put it back on same again slow speeds... so I took it back off .. and put on an other anti-virus programe , and now my speeds are back to 2meg again... any help please...

    What operation system are you using? Open BitDefender go to antivirus,shield,adjusted level and see if scanning http traffic is disabled. If not uncheck it and confirm by pressing on apply and ok. Your internet speed can be reduced by your internet service provider when you download more in a month then your provider allow you. But you can also try this unplug the cables of your modem for a couple of moments then plug the cables back in. I also use BD antivirus plus v10 and my internet speed hasn't reduce. Are you also running downloadprograms in the background?

    As I am experiencing slow internet speeds when bd v10 is running I am trying lots of things to make a difference I have turned off scan http traffic to see if this makes a difference, Thats great but it seems a bit unfortunate that we have to start disabling security functions to improve speed. Hw critical is scanning http traffic ? will havng it turned off compromise my security ? I have a broadband connection that functions well as lon a bd is not on. If this is the case then it should be put on the developers to improve this area. Its a bit like saying your car will travel at a normal speed if you dont have the windscreen wipers on, thats great but what if it starts raining?

    I also have a broadband connection even with http traffic scanning my speed isn't infected. Http traffic scanning isn't also a default setting because it could slow down your internet speed. You will not affect your security because the virus shield is still active and can block viruses,trojans... in realtime. The most important features are enabled by default.

    I am also facing the problem of low download speed after installing Bitdefender.I was downloading by Internet Download Manager 5.14 at a speed of 2MBps before installing Bitdefender , which now reduced to 256kbps after installing bitdefender.I have already checked all the settings but nothing helped.Kindly suggest any remedy.

    I have the same problem. I have XP and installed BitDefender antivirus a while ago and went from a fast broadband back to dial up speeds. Can't even watch any videos anymore. <img class=" />

    btw, I tried to do what Niels suggested to the first writer, but when I open BD -> antivirus, I can't choose "shield" or however it went... I have the el cheapo basic version.

    Hello sandeep,


    Did you already tried to scan http traffic? You didn't specify which BitDefender solution you are using? Right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray press on open advanced settings. Navigate to the privacy control section. Try to disable identity control. To do that just uncheck the box.

    Keep in mind that BitDefender Free edition doesn't have realtime protection which means also no http traffic scanner.

    I don't have the free one, I have the Antivirus 2008.


    It's getting ready to be uninstalled and getting rid of, since virus protection doesn't do me any good, if the computer is so slow, it's useless.

    I found the same problem plus a slow machine because BitDefender hogs the system unnecessarily and the support from BitDefender ended up as worthless. I removed BitDefender and loaded ZoneAlarm. My system now sings.
