Plz Rescue My Rescue Cd
I d/l iso file, burned it to cd which booted but all that's on desktop is cd,terminal emulation, rootkit & others that appear to be help files. NO start button/NTFS drives options so cant get it to scan anything. I have all NTFS parts C to H + 1 hidden part(I dualboot XP) + USB2 drive.

Hello LarryL,
Do you see a shortcut with the name Start HERE? If so left click on it. Normally when you get in the linux environment you normally should see a screen BitDefender Anti-malware scan screen immediately.
You can also run BitDefender in safe mode. Boot your pc and press several times on the F8 button before splash screen. Select safe mode log in with your account. Click on start, programs,BitDefender 2008,manual scan. Now you only have to select the drives or partitions, folders you want to scan.
Kind regards,

I clkd that but didnt see anything useful. I'll try again on next boot. What should I look for? I did see red BD wallpaper & Text b4 that said it updated virus sigs.
Last trojan MediaTubeCodec_ver1.668.3.exe kills explorer 1sec after it starts(see http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=6507 ) so u get blank screen on Normal & Safe boot! I run PartPE & Hiram's boot CD so I'm comforable running OS from CD but NOT burning ISO onto CD with Nero! You can also run BitDefender in safe mode. DCP_0833.JPG is blurry shot of what I see when Rescue CD boot_s. Note there r no icons for any of my partitions.
When I clk START HERE, I get documentation shown in DCP_0834.JPG
I did get a msg while it was booting: 'Failed mount:devpts already on /dev/ptrs'
I have 7 NTFS part(1hidden) & 2 USB1 64MB storage devices & 1 80GB USB2 that was turned OFF.
I Chkdisk & Defrag C,D,F drives 1/5days, but (G is Temps , E is games, H is for videos/large files) arent checked much.
Might I have irregularities in Partition Table?
Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry0 -
Hello LarryL,
Did you downloaded the latest build off BitDefender rescue cd-rom? If you are using the rescue cd-rom that infact is your installation cd-rom that version might be outdated. Please download the latest version that you can find here.
Kind regards,
Niels

I d/l BD so never had CD. I d/l iso again from ur link & got same byte count => I'll do CHKDSK on drives & if OK run PMagic from CD to see if it likes my partitions. I'll try my CD again & if still NG will burn CD again from new iso & try that. If it doesnt run, I either post back or run a part table analyser from CD.
Windows will accept certain flaws in part that other OS's wont. I think there is 2MB unassigned space at front of 1 part when it went to FAT to NTFS .

Hello LarryL,
The problem could have to do with linux. Not all hardware (including hard disks) can be correctly identified. Do you have sata-hard disks? If so that might be the problem. Try also burning at the lowest speed possible. Did you tried the safe mode scan already?
Kind regards,

I just found what a SATA HD is because my TiVo uses them. PC has SG Barracuda IDE HD.
Safe mode scan doesnt use CD does it? I assumed if BD scans in XP it will in Safe mode.
I will d/l iso file again & burn at slower speed. Note I could see all my partitions in Partition Imaging portion of BD CD.
Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry0 -
Hello LarryL,
Sorry for the delay but I was on vacation.
See if you can find on the website off your hard disk manufacturer drivers for linux. For this moment this are the only support sata drives for knoppix. Try this when linux defender is booting.
Type the following:
acpi=off at the boot screen press on enter.
Go into your BIOS go to drives,SATA and set it on combination mode. Don't forget to save your changes.
No,for scanning in safe mode you don't need the installation cd-rom.
Kind regards,
Niels0
