Problems With "live Update".

PLEASE HELP

I have BitDefender Total Security 2008 on a Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 Lenovo computer. I bought this AV program over a month ago ---- everything was fine. I had full system scan scheduled to come on at 2AM. I realized, 3 days ago, that auto system scan WAS NOT comming on as scheduled. By chance, I happened to notice that AV definitions had NOT been updated since 8/2. I tried to update ---- but got a COULD NOT UPDATE ---- STOP SCAN notice.

I have seen on THIS BOARD others who seem to have similar problems. The difference is I KNOW what is causing the problem. I HAVE TO STOP THE SCAN. BUT HOW??? I tried to "TRICK" it by scheduling a scan "on the spot" ---- did not work.

Just to make sure you understand my problem ----- FULL SYSTEM SCAN SEEMS TO BE "STUCK ON". I can't figure out how to TURN THE SCAN OFF. And, yes I tried to disable BitDefender as best I could. That is ...... I unchecked ALL the boxes.

Thank you for your help, Adrian.

  • NEVER MIND -------- I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

When scheduled scan was working it would leave another icon in the tray (to check results of scan) when the scan had finished. I HAD BEEN checking the results EACH DAY and then clicking finish. It seems I forgot ONE DAY. So I just cleared this "scan results" icon and SUCCESSFULLY updated my virus definitions. Why it would be scanning for 4 or so days when the scan was supposed to be finished, I guess will always REMAIN A MYSTERY!!!

I DO ALSO HAVE ONE OTHER PROBLEM ----- that I have also seen here on this board. "Phantom user stopped" deletion of temporary files. THE DIFFERENCE ------ on page 3 IT DOES SAY 20 (or whatever) files HAVE BEEN DELETED. As someone here has suggested, I can just use the delete option in Internet Explorer.

Other than that, things are OK with BitDefender and me.

    Adrian.
