Allow access from local network computer

Bitdefender Total Security (I believe 2019) on my two machines. I'm trying to allow each to access the other, so I can trade files between them.

I followed the instructions here: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13428/

However, at Step 11, when entering the Custom Remote Address--the IP of the device I want to connect to--while I entered the IP address of the other machine, that IP address may change because it's a dynamic address assigned by DHCP.

Isn't there a way to allow ALL addresses within the local network? A range of addresses?

Thanks.

  • Hello Kenl,

The most common cause for this behavior is the way the Firewall was configured. In order to address this, please follow the steps below:

    1.     Bring up the Bitdefender interface and go to Protection

    2.     Use the switch to turn the FIREWALL on in case it was off, then click Settings under Firewall

    3.     On the Network Adapters tab use the drop-down menu next to the name of your network adapters to select Home/Office

    4.     On the Settings tab click Edit stealth settings, and switch off this feature for your network adapters.

Sometimes a reboot is necessary in order for the modifications to apply, so if the situation is not solved after following the steps please perform a reboot as well.

  • Why are my options under BD Firewall grayed out under setting and Network Adapter tabs?

  • I have Windows 11 desktop with BD installed and my Windows 10 PC is used for file sharing on my LAN. It seems that I keep getting user name authenticated connects dropped within a couple of hours! Is this a BD firewall issue?
