Flushing DNS and rebooting or changing the servers didn't help one bit, Niels.

Updates worked before, without doing all the things you suggested.

PROBLEM NOT SOLVED! I'm getting very frustrated about this. I don't see why I should be checking a forum several times a day not to find out why my suite doesn't seem to want to update.

BD 2008 Antivirus ,6 november 2008 ,location Romania, update succesfull on a XP SP 3 machine which has been updated with the latest critical update.

    Whats your location Beyonder?

  • I'm in Belgium...Also I'm updating not only the most recent update...I reinstalled Bitdefender Internet Security 2008 and have a decent 30 MB of updates to install.

Which isn't working out for me at all.

I have not been able to update both my bitdefender antivirus 2008 or 2009 for nearly a week now. A lot of different bitdefender users have been experiencing this problem and the fact that bitdefender has said nothing about it on their website or have any of the admins reply on this tread about the problems they currently have on their update servers is deeply disturbing to me.

COME ON BD STAFF, STOP THE B.S. AND GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. Ignoring the problem wont fix it. Is it too hard to post a sticky here or have a link on your site concerning the update problem?! I will never buy another bitdefender product again. Worst product support ever.

Italy here, lot of problems in past days...

Today, I just installed Internet Security 2009 on XP Sp2 and the update is ok

My TS 2009 haven't got this problem in these days... has been always updated

  • hey people around the world want to scan their pc from ONLINE SCAN but they haven't been able to do so in 5 days or more now because the Online-Scan updates until 4% and then it quit's.

When will Bitdefender fix this? does it take 2 week to just fix some simple issue ?

  • using: BDIS2009

Singapore here. Deliberately registered account in order to be able to post, lol.

The issue has been going for quite some time now. My last update shows 4nov08 12:57AM (GMT+8). I don't have MD5 etc problem, but then again it never show what the problem, as BDIS2009 GUI don't have apparent option to view update logs. (should be inside there somewhere)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this forum is not supported directly by BD teams; we have to go for online chat, email or telephone call for that. This may explain why none of the BD team/admin ever post response, or obliged to do so for that matter. So, venting our anger here won't help any of us much. :)

Agreed that the website shows nothing of this issue. In fact, the threat level is 1. With this situation going around, they probably should've set it at highest state :P Maybe they wanna keep it hush-hush or maybe they simply don't have the time. In any case, we, end users are at a loss. BD should be courteous enough to at least bring up the issue and keep users posted. As for me, I believe they're doing their best to solve the prob; abit courtesy is lacking here though, agreed.

Just for info, when BDIS2009 was installed into my system less than a month ago, I experienced slight glitch: whenever BD tries to update, any programs/games/apps (be it full screened or windowed) will loose their focus. Email support was far from perfect; didn't even bother to reply...until recently, asking whether the problem still persists. By that time, problem seems to have gone away. My point is, give them (some more :) ) time, I believe they're perfectly aware of our current situation. Maybe BD teams are people who like to work in the background, yes? :D

Worst case (read: system is infected with worms etc), I just need to reformat and reinstall my hdd. And maybe, just maybe, thinking of switching to NIS2009. <grin> But that's later. As for now, let's just see if BD can sail out of this small storm.

<TO BD team, in case any of them read: don't tell me you're not happy because Obama wins the election is it? LOL <-- just a joke>

  • My update finally came through...Let's hope situations like this will not happen again.

Really BD-staff, things like this do damage your reputation...

  • Forum:

Not everyone has update problems with BD.

    I have XP SP3 and BDIS-2009.

I had several problems installing and getting it working but after that it works fine and also updates fine.

If I could tell you why I would. Maybe I'm just lucky but I doubt it. There must be something the problem computers have in common. For instance, when I was using BDIS-2008 my CD/DVD burning software always froze my windows system. 2009 doesn't.

I'm located in Utah, US. Yes I voted for Obama.

Were you using Nero burning software 6.6/7 or 8?

    Was an LG optical drive?

Definetly the problems are on the update servers side ,which are from a 3-d party company. The conection timeouts.

  • Is it fixed?

Just now, instead of trying to update with a 20-27MB download (depending on whether last week's weekly was installed), the update was about 0.5MB, and included some patch files. It was successful, and is now 7.21716 -- a clear update, with an increase in the number or virus defs.

Hope this does it for us all.

(My other machine, also XPSP2, on the same network, has been just fine. Strange.)

  • I am using BD2008, Spanish version and I finally could update a few hours ago. It seems to be ok now. But very bad crisis management from BD staff...

  • having been told be BD support ALL WEEK that the update problem is a general problem applying to all versions (and therefore by implication a central one - perhaps with the update servers), I was told last night that BDIS2009 should NOT be affected ("only v10 and v11" apparently).

SO, Yet again, I reinstalled (4th time), and guess what, it's updating fine again - so it WAS my local instance that was screwed.

This is driving me nuts. Possibly the worst £30 I've ever spent on software. I hope things improve rapidly soon, otherweise I'm off....

  • Im still having issuses w/ DL of updates. I just preformed a system restore and reinstalled bit and i either get the MD5 / or the time out... any way to fix..

  • I haven't been able to update for more than a week now.

    This is getting ridiculous.

Still getting the invalid md5 error.

On vista ultimate 64 bit sp1 and windows 2000 sp4.

    No word from bd.

    No solution from bd.

We have now 6 bd installations, and guess what?

We will never buy bd again.

If people ask me if they should buy bd, our answer will be NO!

The complete lack of support from bd is extremely bad.

  • Update now back to normal, after I go to start-all programs-bit defender-repair or remove -> choose repair.

BD then went off, reinstalled itself, restarted the system twice, and everything good to go (read: update works as it should be). And just to ensure, I hit "update now" thrice at 5mins interval after that. lol

It may or may not work for all of you BD users out there but it worths the try.

    cheers!

  • I have 30+ clients on 3 networks that have been without defs for over a week now. After multiple hours of troubleshooting (that no one pays me for) I think it is a BD issue. My reasons come from multiple manual update attempts on multiple clients that often fail simultaneously. I've reinstalled clients and repaired clients with the same results (MD5 or IO). The best way around this for me would be to download update exe's but this doesn't seem to be an option from BD. I don't think they have a plan 'B' that works for users. My sales rep isn't even responding to my emails anymore. Anyone else feel abandoned? I'm just not feeling the  from these guys.

I started another thread but this one seems to be the alpha ...

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=9696&hl=

  • Well, my updates still don't work!

    I tried repair.

    I tried re-install.

    Still not possible to update.

But wat's worse, still no email response from bd!

    That really bugs me.

I pay good money for a number of licenses, and i get zero support from bd.

I now have a disfunctional piece of software and bd treats me like dirt.

Apparently this is the way bd treats its paying customers.

And thats way worse than a bug in the software, because software can't be 100% bug free.

But a company should always give support to its paying customers.

    Hello,

I would like to ask everyone who continues to have this problem to post at what file the update process fails. I don't guarantee that I can find the solution, but at least I can ask what's happening.

To me, for instance, the problem was fixed since last time I posted here, and no other update problems occurred since.

    Hello to everyone,

When I had the MD5 error (but that was in the beginning of November and it was corrected by a new update) the problematic file was plugins/emalware.c01 It happened always the 3 th time that you could see the progress bar.

    Kind regards,

    Niels

    EDIT:

My thoughts are that on certain servers the faulty file is still being offered and so preventing people from getting new updates. If you can find out on what file it got stuck it will be easier for BitDefender to check all servers and that file.

If you really care about security do not use [removed], you ll be sorry B)

  • This is simply not acceptable!

I've been trying to update ever since I bought the software but it always times out (MD5 whatever that means). Yesterday I got to 86% but then it reverted back to start as it always does. It's trying to download 45 MB. What ###### me off the most is that BD didn't make an update that remembers what was successfully downloaded during the previous attempt, I'm downloading the same files over and over again.

Never thought I would buy a virus protection package that doesn't have a functioning update service, what a joke.

  • I've been having problems with update ever since I downloaded Bitdefender 2009. It says Critical you haven't updated bitdefender since... and when I click on Fix nothing happens. Today I went to click on update now and it started to update and then said error http 404. On other days it doesn't even say error, it just doesn't update. I am not a computer person so I don't know how to take a screenshot or load a log file. Any suggestions on what to do?

I have bitdefender on my other computer too and it has never been able to update. I haven't had time to really deal with it. I run that computer on a user account but even when i'm logged on as administrator it doesn't work.

  • HTTP 404

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 404 or Not Found error message is an HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but either the server could not find what was requested, or it was configured not to fulfill the request and did not reveal the reason why. 404 errors should not be confused with "server not found" or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server could not be made at all.

Well, we bought 5 Total sec. 2009 Lic. mid/end of October.

Can't update them since a week. Sometimes it starts downloading, sometimes it runs til the end and finally it looks good.

It looks ... but looks, only. Clicking update again doesn't tell me u r already update ... no, it starts update proc. again and again.

Well, get HTTP error 404 messages or it stops telling me if it happens again contact customer service ... bla bla ... u can't contact them 'cause they do not exist (?)

This evening, first time it also happened to one of my 5 Total Sec 2008 at home > HTTP error 404

Hmmm, I smell rotten fish, something is really heading the wrong way at Bitdefender. Or not ?

  • Well, I think BitDefender has been hacked.

I hope the 404's imply that they've taken themselves off line while they fix things, although that's a dumb way to announce being offline for maintainance.

Maybe they're dead. They sure aren't responsive. "BD is dead. Long live ... what?"

  • Same thing is happening to me! how frustrating! BTw how can you tell which file it is choking on?

Something that might be helpful--I was having the same update problem some of you are having (404 message) with Bit Defender Total Security 2009, and

    1. Update via Advanced View-->Update Tab-->"Update Now" button failed multiple times (404).

    2. Update via Basic View-->Dashboard-->"Update Now" button failed multiple times (404).

    3. Update via R-click on Bit Defender icon on Toolbar, choose "Update Now" WORKED. :)

I'm not sure what would be different about the third option. I suppose it's possible that my timing was just good, and something got fixed on a server right as I clicked, but I suspect there's something different about that third update option?

    Hello,

I think I might have a way of bypassing the problem you have with the update. I made a small tool that should force an update with the signature files that I have on my system (signature snapshot taken on November 10, 2008). I tested the tool on a BitDefender Total Security 2009, English version, but it should work on all languages/versions (AV/IS/TS). The only limitation is that it works only on the 32bit version (not on 64bit, at least not yet).

I made this tool on my own, as a non-employee of BitDefender, so I make absolutely no guarantees that it will work and I assume no responsability for it's usage, nor for any damages caused by it's usage.

Also, this tool hasn't been tested in "real life conditions" (I only tested it in a virtual environment). I tried contacting a couple of users for BETA testing before making this tool public, but didn't get any answers. So if anyone is interested of testing this tool to see if it fixes the update problem, please contact me through PM. As soon as I get some confirmation that it works in real life, I'll make public all details about how to get the tool. Also, if it works for 32bit systems I'll try to port it on 64bit architecture.

  • The latest update I've got was dated November 14, 2008. Up to today, the check for update success, but no update found. Why? I've check with support in Thailand. They simply said no update yet!

    How come this happened?

  • There were some problems with the update service, but all of those are fixed now and we are still looking for the source so that it will never happen again.

We're sorry for any inconveniences and if anyone still has these type of problems please do update this thread with the problem.

Check your conection MTU.Do some testing to see if you have problems with your network conection. The updates may "brake" on the "pipe" .
