Md5 Error
Using BD on 5 different computers and various operating systems, Vista, XP, Windows Home Server, the only OS that consistantly receives the MD5 error for the last 3 days every hour is the Windows Home Server. Yes the WHS is completely updated and runs perfectly for what it does. I do not host anything from that server, it simply stores my data and backs up my other computers. It is NOT overloaded. I have reinstalled BD2009 Internet Security 4 times and each time it runs fine for a couple of days doing updates and then resorts to the MD5 errors. None of my other computers does this. I am done reinstalling, it should not be necessary every 3-4 days. Is there a REAL FIX for this? I am not buying the "our servers are updating" or "this FEATURE is for your protection" or "it will correct itself the next update", those dogs no longer hunt. Looking for a real software fix here. After 72 update attempts over a 3 day period, this happens every hour now. Yes I have tried manual updates, they net the same error. Manual updates should not be necessary by the way.

Please follow these steps in order to pinpoint what is causing the update issue:
1. Click on Start->Run->type cmd -> press OK or Enter;
2. In the new black window, from 'command prompt', please write the command - ping upgrade.bitdefender.com - without the '-' and the hit Enter;
3. Please take a Screenshot of the results of step 2;
4. In the new black window, from 'command prompt', please write the command - ping upgrade1.bitdefender.com - without the '-' and the hit Enter;
5. Please take a Screenshot of the results of step 4;
6. After you perform the ping, please write the command - nslookup upgrade.bitdefender.com - and hit Enter;
7. Please take a Screenshot of the results of step 6;
8. After you perform the ping, please write the command - nslookup upgrade1.bitdefender.com - and hit Enter;

This is not a connectivity issue, I have 4 other computers on the same network, all use the same ISP, all use the same router, same DNS, hard-coded IP addresses, 3 XP 1 Vista OS. This is a software issue with this product. After a reinstall, it works for several days. All the other computers work flawlessly.

On a side note, I had a warning box that said Bitdefender crashed sometime last night. I sent the crash files using this email address and noting it was from WHS. Hope this is helpful.0 -

As I have a similar setup to yours, I believe, i.e. Office LAN setup with 5 PC's running at any one rime + 4 to 5 Customer PC'c in for repair or Service connected to the LAN, all connected to the LAN through Gigabit Switches (Hubs) which in turn are connected the the VPN Gigabit Router for the WAN (Internet) connectivity .
The Operating Systems that talk to each other (are visible at any one time) are, Windows 3.11 For Workgoups, Win 95b. Win 98, Win 2000, Win ME, Win XP (home and XP pro (any sp) Vista (all versions) Mac OS X (Tiger and Leopard) Win 2003.
We do at times have Ubunto and other type OS's on the Network, but I am sure you do not have or use this extensive setup.
However, Please explain in detail;
1. EACH of your system(s) Hardware, OS's, etc.
2. Your LAN and WAN setup
3. With regard to your LAN/WAN, do you use or have setup fixed IP's for each PC, and have you also setup the permissions on the master VPN or other Router, i.e. port permissions, etc. ?0 -

An MD5 error means that the servers are in synchronization process in other words newer files are being added. BitDefender itself doesn't maitain the servers so it could be that BitDefender reaches servers that are in synchronization process.
If after a few hours it isn't resolved you can download the updates manually here (if you are using a 32 bit version) or 64 bit version.

That due to the synchronization process on BD servers, "ajt0001" PC is so unlucky that over a duration of 24 hours, his PC cannot once access the BD servers to perform the automated Update ?
That sounds like "Mission Impossible Fairy Tale" !?!?
We need to come up with a better answer than that I would think, and needing to update manually all the time is not an option, I don't think !0 -

Can you please try the following and after you made the changes in BD only, allow your PC to run for another 24 hours to see if it will automatically update itself.
1. GoTo BD Updates, then click on Settings tab and change the Time Interval for Automatic Updates to 3 hours then click apply and exit (close) the BD window.
2. perform the manual update suggested by Neils.
3. Re-boot the PC and then allow it to run and observe it for the next 24 hours, while you do nothing to BD, and make no further changes please.
4. If the same MD5 error comes up, after 12 hours (= 3 or 4 MD5 errors) then post this information, but still make no changes and continue for another 23 hours. and post the result of this 24 duration test.

To see what else might cause the issue can you please do this:
Click on start,control panel switch to classic view double click on the folders icon after that press on the view tab and check the option show hidden files and folders and remove the checkmark by hide protected operating system files.,computer be sure that hidden files and folders are visible. Now click on start,computer, open the folder ProgramData,BitDefender,Dtrace please attach or copy the content of livesrv.log and upgrepl.log.
Try this also press the windows button together with r now type cmd press enter. After that type ipconfig /flushdns press enter. Typ exit press enter again and reboot your pc.
