I'net Access Blocked

Almost ever since I installed BD AV, I've had internet access being blocked. It crops up irregularly. My ISP is hopeless and about to be replaced but they insist it is either my AV or Firewall. I have two PCs with BD V10; one has WIN2K plus ZoneAlarm and the other WinXP plus Comodo. Both have the same problem, which rules out the Firewalls. Dial-up is fine, if a mite slow  . I should add that I'm only 95% certain it's BD.

The problem goes away for a few days if I uninstall and re-install both AV and Firewall.

Any suggestions?

  • Yes we used to get this problem here in thailand when BD IS 10 wasn't released yet. THe old time when we were using BD IS 9 we got many problems but with the same ISP. Eventhough the settings were correct we would not be able to connect to the internet with this particular ISP. It seems to be a conflict with a particular modem router, this is what i think but i never got a final answer. But since BD IS 10 was released we never get any calls about this problem.

    Just a thought.

  • First of all,you should stick to only one firewall/AV. Secondly, try to see if you can acces the internet if you deactivate the firewalls. Post the results.

  • Hi ozziepaul

You can try this unplug the power cable of your adsl modem for 5 minutes to let it cool down. Afterwards put the power cable back in. Zonealarm could interfer with your internet. Try to temporary disable zonealarm. Try after that if your internet works again. BitDefender without firewall can't block internet.

This forum is magic! Hadn't even checked for responses to my problem to-day and it's gone away already.

Niels, that 5 minutes cooling down sounds interesting; I'll try it next time. The ADSL modem's on 24 x 7 and the first thing my ISP wants me to do is turn it off for 30 seconds. I did have this nagging doubt that BD couldn't be the culprit but everything points to it.

I've had trouble with ZoneAlarm before but I'm the main user and I use Comodo.

I'll just have to wait and see.

    Cheers,

Follow these instructions to be sure that you have uninstalled zonealarm completely: http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs/board...;message.id=103 Because remaints of a firewall could cause conflicts with another firewall. Check in comodo also this : http://forums.comodo.com/help/current_24_s...es-t5695.0.html Check the post of comicfan2000 I've found also this for Australian users : http://forums.comodo.com/faq_for_comodo_fi...rs-t9424.0.html

Niels, Thanks a lot for all that. I am now 99% sure it's Comodo conflicting with something and I suspect the 'something' is my ISP. It is really odd that it's intermittent and then hard on for a day or two and that two different firewalls give the same result.

Anyway, BD is off the hook.

  • Hi ozziepaul

Glad that I could help you. Sometimes it's indeed difficult to find the problem. If all what suggested their didn't work than it has something to do with your isp. Sometimes you can receive internet timeouts because of problems by your isp.
