Antiphishing Alerts

I have Bitdefender Internet Security 2009. I have had it for a couple of weeks, now bearing in mind I have not changed any settings I now get bitdefender phishing alert pop ups on almost every website that I visit. Why is bitdefender classing everyday sites as phishing sites now. an example is www.jobsite.co.uk

    I suppose that you might created some identity rules. Open BitDefender switch to advanced view go to privacay control,identity control press on exceptions,add you should select http.


    Did you also made an exception for jobsite.co.uk? Because if you don't made an exception and you create a rule that BitDefender should always block your name than the page will be blocked.


    Normally when you are on phising page you can still access the website by press on allow.

    I see that you are in Belgium? One of my fave countries :) My mom is from Belgium and I have spent much time there. Did you know that there is no better food in the world than that which is served in Belgium? Not in my opinion, that is.


    Now then, you seem to know about the anti-phishing tool. This is something I have never used, and I'm not sure I need it. Do you have an opinion about the tool?


    Also, I have noticed that my Firefox is now acting up AND I see that it is sucking much CPU. I'm wondering if BD2009 has anything to do with that? At the moment, in task manager, I see that Firefox is using 74,000kb, I have two Firefox windows open (one at Google, one in this site.) When I go to a banking site, my Firefox starts really getting sluggish. I will contact those at the Firefox forums, but I am just wondering if BD's antiphishing tool might have anything to do with this? Do you have a clue?

    I think I have answered my own question... I don't think this high mem usage by Firefox has anything at all to do with the BD anti-phishing tool. Just did some testing with the tool turned on and off.


    Sorry to trouble you on that, but I would be interested to have your thoughts on the value of the tool.

    1)You can try this for your high cpu usage. You should also take a look at your installed add-ons. Try this troubleshooting procedure always disable 1 add-on at a time close Firefox and restart it write always down if the issue appears or not.


    2)Try this press on the BitDefender Antiphising and press on add to whitelist when you are on the banking website.

  • Regarding the original post in this thread, I too have the same problem.


    I have been running BD 2009 for a while now with no real problems. Within the past few days however, it would seem that an update has come through that required the antispam to be retrained within my email client (thunderbird), and now, we are getting phishing alerts on almost every website we visit.


    In response to "Niels" first post in the thread, we have no identity rules, and no exceptions listed in the privacy area of the settings, but we have used the antiphishing toolbar in firefox to add the "blocked" sites to the whitelist. I can see that the websites are in the whitelist, but we continue to get alerts for those pages.


    In addition, I have a stale bookmark to my local lan router. BD 2009 reports an antiphishing alert for this non-existant website as well.


    Finally (I hope), whilst we get an alert from BD 2009, by the time I get the alert the potentially offending website is already visible. Is this what is supposed to happen? I would have thought the alert should come up before the browser can show the site.


    Would really appreciate some help with this. It's making browsing an unpleasant experience.

    Do you have parental control enabled? That is completely different from anti-phising. It might be the heuristic webfilter that causes this and blocks certain pages.


    Be sure that your user account is set on a.dult.


    I've added a screenshot when BitDefender Antiphising protection has blocked something and when parental control has blocked something (2nd screenshot).

  • Yes it's enabled, but the users in question are "a.dult" accounts. The alert is definitely the anti-phishing alert.

  • I'm turning off Anti-Phishing. Yesterday it started blocking sites like the Atlanta Journal and Constitution newspaper, and the Georgia Department of Transportation Traffic site. Not too likely that either of these or the many other blocked sites are phishing.

  • Yes, I'm inclined to disable it also, but I note that it only happens in firefox, and only when the toolbar addon is enabled. If I use Google Chrome (which I really like, and will probably move to before long) the problem doesn't occur.


    Does this then mean that BD 2009 depends on cooperation for it to work? I would have thought that BD would be intercepting the web traffic at a lower level than that so that it would work for all browsers.

    This is only a user forum.


    What firefox version are you using? I tested it with Firefox 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 and I visited each websites and BitDefender Antiphising didn't blocked or warned on any of those pages. BitDefender Antiphising only blocked the content that I entered by the identity controls. Did you ever created some identity rules? It might that BitDefender is still using the database file?


    What built are you using? You can obtain that information by right clicking on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray and press on info. I am still using build 12.0.11.2 Dutch version.


    What I am trying to find out if it might being a product upgrade that the English version or other language version of BitDefender received that caused this.


    Was the problem there from the first you installed BitDefender?


    You should follow these instructions. After you can log in to your online account to ask support or use the livechat.


    I am more thinking about a product upgrade you received because there are a couple who have this issue. You can always perform a repair instal: click on start,all programs,BitDefender 2009,repair or remove choose repair. Keep in mind that you will use the spammer and friend list except when you save them,firewall rules,shelduled scans,.

    That is normal because BitDefender Antiphising toolbar only works in Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.

    Hello all.


    We are running BD2009 on 4 machines within our organisation and are also getting the constant Phishing filter alerts in either IE7 or FF305. Many of the sites are already whitelisted and I even get it if I hit search on Google with an empty search box.


    Only started happening in the last 12 hours, was fine yesterday when I shut down at the end of the day but has started happening since I fired up my machine this morning. Seems to me that the latest update has broken the Phishing filter. I'm about to get rid of it.

    The following worked for me - i use Firefox.


    It was suggested that I turn off the AntiPhishing Protection <Goto Antivirus, select Shield>


    Close Window


    Open Window and re-enable Antiphising.


    Close Window


    Now reopen Firefox browser

  • I have a very similar (probably the same) problem.


    I do not have any other filters enabled (no parental control etc) - pretty much every site i goes to comes up with an alert from the AntiPhishing system asking me to Allow/Block the site.


    And yes, like the others even sites that i am adding to the White List (google.com, for instance) are coming up as a with this Alert on majority of the links i click on the site.


    And also, like someone already even mentioned - half of the time i don't even need to click the Allow/Deny box, as the site just pops up and loads anyway (but the alert remains, which is very frustrating :\). I'm turning this off until there is something to fix it, just can't handle all these alerts! lol.


    And bailey S, thanks for the help but that doesn't fix it :).


    I'm using Firefox also, not sure if this happens with the other browers - so i'm speaking purely based on my experience over the last few hours with Firefox 3.0.5 & BitDefender Total Security 2009 (With the latest updates).

    Hi Guys


    I have exactly the same problem. I have not changed any settings or upgraded but now whether I am using firefox or IE, the antiphishing alerts come with every... and I mean every url. Google is my home page and it indicates it as an antiphishing site.


    Since the start my settings have been to the highest level. I have checked my scripts and cookie control and have not restricted google under any circumstances.


    It seems BD 2009 appears to have problems as my family have 2008 and not once glitch (well not one after they reformatted their computers). I suspect this problem has arisen from an update.


    The frustrating thing is BD support: unless the problem is virus related, most of the time live chat can't really help (from my experience). You utilise a lot of time sending them files to be told there is nothing they can do.


    Post edit: Well I accessed live chat again and using those diagnostic tools again so perhaps next week I will learn something...

    I agree with you there; hence, I find it frustrating that BD don't realise it is a software problem instead of asking us to go through these tiresome diagnostic tests.

    Build here: 12.0.11.3 - running a german version!


    Tried to deactivate the phising tool (as i don't need it), but bitdefender shows me a warning then?


    Hope somebody has contacted the bitdefender support so far...

  • Good news... the alerts have stopped as of this morning (this time) so let's hope the problem is fixed. I also hope everyone else experiencing this problem also experiences the same good news.

    Is bitdefender listening and ignoring? seems like this is not an isolated issue to one or two of us???

  • Hi Mike, Well regarding BD 'listening' and 'ignoring', I was a skeptical as I have expressed in my previous posts; however, I did use live chat last night to outline the problem. I even made reference to this forum. I performed their diagnostic tests and sent them to BD as requested by them. I have not had a reply but then again, the problem is solved.


    Perhaps you would benefit by chatting with them. Niels has provided a link somewhere in this thread.


    Good luck with it. I hope you find some resolution soon.

    So I'm going to deactivate the bitdefender-phising filter - firefox got its own anyway...

  • -e!- speak to BD via live chat and let them know the problem is persisting. Hopefully, one of the updates will correct the problem. It must be that some servers have not corrected the problem in the updates.
