Bitdefender Product Suggestions / Feature Requests - List For Bitdefender 2010
My Ever Growing Suggestion List To Improve BitDefender:
BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport Stops Working
Since I run a network bridge that is controlled by the Wireless Zero Service, I sometimes need to delete the bridge which separates my wireless from my LAN connection, and I sometimes need to reenable the bridge. BitDefender doesn't seem to like these constantly changing adapters, as BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport stops working on any adapter after changing it multiple times.
I then have to refer to: http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB391-en--Firewa...vity-issue.html
To get the firewall working again.
This is a huge security risk!
I cannot afford for my firewall to ever stop working even if I change some of my connection settings by either deleting or re-bridging two network devices.
I can tell the firewall doesn't work when LeakTest.exe is able to penetrate the firewall and BitDefender fails to alert me.
I think BitDefender ISS should utilize another method of monitoring internet communications through network adapters on the firewall end.
Seccenter.exe Stops Responding
I've also lately noticed that seccenter.exe stops responding at times. I can just sit there with my mouse over the BitDefender ISS icon in the taskbar clicking on it, and nothing happens. I can even right click on the icon and choose show, but nothing happens either. Thus, I cannot modify any security settings, as BitDefender will not show. BitDefender is still actively protecting my machine; I just can't change anything.
To fix the problem, I normally restart my computer. As I'm trying to restart, Windows finally pops up the dialogue stating that seccenter.exe is not responding, and I choose to end it. After rebooting, BitDefender will "show". However, eventually it stops responding.
Weak Firewall:
I don't know if this has come to your attention, but your firewall is obviously horrible. I mean, just look:
http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-...nge/results.php
http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-...2012.0.10.2.pdf
I'm hoping that BitDefender 2010 will pass most of these tests and continue to use less than 10MB of background memory for the suite's entire operation. However, this should not be a priority as Matousec's results only occur if a virus is not detected by BitDefender and hijacks the system.
BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport - Hardware Installation
When installing drivers for my Ralink Wireless N Adapter, BitDefender repeatedly popped up a window in which XP asked if I wanted to continue with the installation since NDIS Filter Miniport had not passed WHQL testing. This is strange, because it says it's trying to install BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport. BitDefender NDIS Filter Miniport has nothing to do with my installation of drivers, so why do I receive warnings about it? I think this needs to be fixed, as I don't want to continually have to click allow during installations when the drivers themselves do not flag WHQL.
BitDefender Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport was interfering with my drivers. My internet would disconnect and reconnect. I disabled BitDefender from my startup, uninstalled the drivers, and reinstalled the same drivers, and now the adapter works perfectly. My adapter doesn't disconnect and reconnect. Thus, I think this feature should be improved so that it does not interfere with Ralink's Wireless N USB Adapters.
ASP.NET Machine Account:
After installing BitDefender Total Security Suite 2009, I noticed that a new account has been created under User Accounts in Control Panel. The new account is called ASP.NET Machine Account, and I believe it appears after the installation of .net Framework 1.1 which is included in BitDefender's installation package. This is annoying, as I now have to delete this account so that XP will not ask me to logon. I don't use a password on my account, so I just want XP to load and automatically sign me in. It will only do this if there is only one account. In BitDefender 2010, please fix this bug.
BitDefender's Look:
Instead of having a dreary, boring silver look, BitDefender’s interface should include a variety of eye pleasing colors. I think it would be cool if the BitDefender could look as professional as Internet Security Suite Version 10 did. Give it back it's professional look,
and let us change the theme to blue or red again!
Give us the option to create custom skins since you won't ever make a nice looking one ever again unless you revert back to the v10 design.
Firewall Alerts:
Instead of asking users to approve or deny up to 6 different connection protocols when the firewall is set to report for different programs, why not only ask me once whether the process should be allowed to connect to the internet or not and set the RULE to ANY PORT, ANY PROTOCOL. However, please let us change the rule in the "Rules" section should the user need to change or limit access.
Game Mode Configuration:
Game mode’s firewall mode should be configurable. I want antivirus scanning to cease when I play games, but I'd still like the firewall actively shielding my computer from malicious packets, new programs trying to access the internet, and packets which are unnecessary and privacy invading. Keep the firewall set to REPORT, because during play, an inactive firewall can lead to several virus threats and unwanted activity.
Privacy Tab / P2P:
BitDefender ISS 2010 should also have a P2P / Torrent / Connection Privacy Control in addition to registry control and identity control. This function would add an IP block list for known malicious IPs. Kinda like Peerguardian. It would also closely monitor the ports being used. In this tab, a basic IP filter would be nice to block out private instigators over P2P who infringe privacy and block commonly known hacker IPs.
Please make BitDefender more compatible with BlueTack!
Privacy Tab / Cookie and ****** Controls:
Under the Privacy Control for Cookies and ****** controls, instead of manually having to set rules for every site, why not allow the user to set a general privacy setting that blocks cookies, ads, popups, javascript, vbscripts, and activeX on every site and is fully configurable instead of having to manually set everything for the trillions of sites out there? However, still keep the manual settings, as some sites should be setup differently.
Exit Option:
Please re-add the exit option which will shut down BitDefender’s protected processes.
Add an HIPS:
Add an HIPS to BitDefender 2010 so that it monitors a few activities of currently running programs. However, don't create a HIPS that marks safe programs as unsafe such as WordPerfect Office X3.
We need "true" rootkit protection which I've noticed BitDefender has a hard time detecting.
Add Monthly Bandwidth Consumption Charts:
In the Firewall section of BitDefender, I think it would be cool to add a tab next to the "Activity" tab named "Statistics". In it, our daily bandwidth usage could be merged into a graph that informs users just how much internet bandwidth they consume per month. Since ISPs in the United States are trying to cap our "unlimited" internet, which I hope someone sues Comcast and the FCC jumps in again, it would be nice if the firewall could record how much bandwidth we use so that we're informed.
Remove Temporary Internet Files:
Add an option to clean temporary internet files including cache, cookies, and history. Allow us to permanently delete all internet cache quickly with just the click of a button. Support for IE 5.5, IE 6.0, IE 7.0, FireFox 2.0, and FireFox 3.0 would be ideal. The browser can delete these files, but instead of having to go through many options to delete everything, I think it would be cool if BitDefender could do it.
Scan Activity Bar:
I've noticed that when gaming, the little BitDefender scanning graph/chart that provides information on local and internet scanning activity pops through my games. It's literally flashing on and off during play. This should not happen.
Thus, perhaps when gaming is initialized, BitDefender could set the option for the chart to hide but only while the user is gaming, as I like this feature, and it's nice to see what's going on when I'm not gaming.
Instant Messaging Encryption:
Please add support for the two other major popular IM programs you left out; AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ.
Better yet, support encryption for Trillian Astra which includes MySpace IM, MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, IRC, GoogleChat all in one application. It's quite popular, and I use it a lot. I'd love to have encryption for all of Trillian. Trillian Astra is a new version that will be released soon.
BitDefender’s Settings:
It's imperative that BitDefender remembers all security settings, no matter what happens dealing with BitDefender updates or random computer crashes.
Updates have caused my firewall settings to be reset which should
never happen even in version 2009!
BitDefender Forum Suggestion:
Let users edit or modify there posts no matter how old the post may be.

Very good Suggestions .
Wait BitDefender Company to take it ..
You did very well Eric.
Thanks .0 -
Oh, and here's a big one. Continue to support XP x64. I cannot stand Vista. Made my Core i7 rig a nightmare!

Perhaps this thread should be stickied since it seems this "new forum" discriminates users from adding feedback and justifiably complaining about the issues currently found in BD 2009?

No, the forum does not discriminate anybody; see: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=12151
We encourage everybody to send us feedback, however we need to stick to a certain behavior in order to keep things at a manageable level.

Ok. Cool. Thanks for sticking this topic. I'm sure this will serve as a great way for users to voice their suggestions for future versions.0 -
I need "warns you about risky websites"
like McA*** site advisor or Nor*** Safe web
A*G, Tre** micr*, Spywa** terminat** and many other company have this kind of product already.
But for BitDefender still do not have.
This one should be new trend for 2010 software that BitDefender have not.

Next one is the function to remember the network name and the level of sucurity like Kaspersky internet security have. It' so boring that Bitdefender block the network everytime that I switch between two network that I have to use everyday. By default it block my network everyday so I have to unblock it daily.

function for block autorun virus from thumb drive by behavier blocking.
Now I have to use this kind of freeware together with BitDefender
http://ms.kku.ac.th/mnipote/downloads/ardv102_setup.zip
this is a small freeware to block autorun virus by behavier blocking
No need for any update, no need signature.
Even new virus cannot pass this kind of software.
Now, for my pc BitDefender do nothing because this software block the virus before Bitdefender can detect it.
The current function to scan virus from thumb drive is not work because it can scan just only known virus only.
The time before you start scan it can infect your PC already.
You can find this kind of freeware a lot in my area.
I think you know that the virus from removable drive is quite important and growing.
This function should be the fuction that make your software work better.0 -
please improve your antispam.
The current one is useless, it cannot block spam in my inbox even I choose aggressive.
Now I have to install the freeware opensource, spambayes that can work better.
Because it is opensource, you can know how they can do a good job.
They prepare to launch the new version, but for me the current one is enough for me.0 -
By default, software should create the backup of the infected file in Quarantine to prevent the errorness of delete the false positive files. It can work together with clean or delete function. I had lost a lot of file from the errorness of your competitor that cannot recover becase of this function.

seccenter.exe is still not responding. Please get this fixed before BD2010 is released.0

Eric very good suggestion's but you forgott the most important thing:
If an AV has not good detection rate then it's WORTHLESS .
So the very good-smart suggestion is: IMPROVE the heuristic & detection rate before releasing 2010.
also the AV should not lag so much , so the other suggestion is make the AV very light to run very smooth on XP/Vista/Windows7.
These suggestion's has been said many times before by many users ´that: Improve much more detection rate & heuristic and make the BD so it run light and not so heavy as it is.
I hope they fix this soon in 2010...
Good Luck.0 -
I would also like to add that for those of us who use weekly.exe(which is the cummulative update) have the option of a weekly update and a cummulative one as downloading weekly.exe every week is quite heavy and costs a lot.

File Vault - The bvd files in "My Documents" (or wherever) should not be able to be deleted manually (Windows Explorer, Command Window etc.) - BitDefender should protect them

for seccenter.exe
its not responding cos its not fully loaded at startup when u run it. w8 a little moment then it shoul be fine. anyway, just open task manager, then restart seccenter.exe process.0 -
I wish add to Bitdefender total 2010 ultilities to repair viruses errors like hide folder (options , open with , disable taskmanger , ...etc)
maybe it include in BD 2009 but I don't know how to use it " />
and options to remove autorun.inf file by user ( not like some AV every autorun.inf detect it as a virus )0 -
The AntiPhishing Toolbar needs attention.
This toolbar slows a lot of webpages down and I have noticed it causes little issues when playing Netflix movies on my Vista laptop which I connect to the TV and Stereo for better viewing.
I had to disable it as a whole from the Manage Add-Ons feature in IE on both XP and Vista Machines.
Make an option to install or not to install it. Atleast make an option to completly disable it like you do in Manage Add-Ons feature in MSIE.0 -
It seems like BitDefender products are in a perpetual beta. In future, I would wish they can produce a stable product.
In features, I would like BD to finally implement simple stuff that every other product has:
1. Ability to add suspicious files manually to Quarantine: This is probably implemented by every AV except BD. Its so basic, that my mind boggles at how BitDefender misses such simple stuff.
2.HTTP/Mail/Anti-Phish Scanner Activity Bar: This forum is filled with instances of how HTTP,Mail,Anti-Phish and other scanners slow down computing. Just add a activity bar so that we can see how much processing BitDefender is doing.
3. Integrate into Windows Live Mail Client: Since in Win7 and beyond, only Windows Live Mail will be provided as optional email client.
4. Full Custom Installer: Give the user the option to install whatever components he likes. I am sure most people won't require the so-called features bundled with BitDefender. This way he can install what he wants/likes and not be greeted by a avalanche of warning messages claiming that he is not fully secure !! I am sure this will make the whole BD juggernaut lighter on my system.0 -

Agreed, sounds like a good idea.
I would love to see BitDefender's Toolbar not only prevent phishing but enable a virtual browser similar to ZoneAlarm Forcefield. Just think of how good of a job this active protection would be. Basically, the toolbar would virtualize browsing to the point that no infections could get through. Even if they do get through, they are deleted when the browser closes, and it will not affect a user's system. Of course, support IE 6, IE 7, FireFox 3.0
ZoneAlarm Forcefield is good, but I bet a BitDefender product that virtualizes browsing would be much smaller and more efficient.0 -

Sort out the Windows live webcam delay. This has been a constant pain since BD2009 release.

The only feature I want is: make the program work!
Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 is very good for user interface, customization, scanner, virus detection, updates.
The only problem is: it's only a great collection of bugs.
Every time I start Windows something changes, something stops working and I find some options unchecked.
Every time an update is downloaded other things stops working.
When a new version is out, some things are fixed but many others don't work.0 -
Fix The Most Important Issues NOW
I am so disappointed with the stability of BitDefender. I am done using it. It has too many ****** errors, the seccenter.exe stops responding all the time on freshly formatted XP + Vista computers, and the firewall is always messed up due to NDIS Filter being unable to compensate for bridged devices or new wireless devices. I constantly find my "protection" from viruses and hackers not responding, not working, or having fatal ****** errors.
ZoneAlarm has bounced back from bugs and early errors in version 8 to a sound security provider. Guess what, it doesn't use NDIS Filter Miniport to control Firewall aspects, and it easily compensates and always provides protection no matter what happens to my internet connection.
NDIS filter miniport has to go; or else, I will never use this software again. I want protection from hackers and unauthorized use at all times. Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport does not cut it. Use a new mechanism, as I'm ###### with this software's unreliability; I constantly find every program successfully connecting to the internet because the Firewall has stopped working, even though BitDefender says everything is still ok, and that “[i’m] protected”. Leaktest gets through, and so does any hacker wishing to gain access to my computer when the firewall stops working!
It's ridiculous I have to run the steps of:
http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB391-en--Firewa...vity-issue.html
to restore the firewall to functionality.
It should just work and compensate if my network suddenly becomes bridged, unbridged, or connected via a different device. I shouldn't have to approve Windows to allow an installation of Firewall NDIS Filter miniport on EVERY single network device. It's a nightmare. This needs to be cleaned up. Customers are already complaining a lot, and nothing is being done.
For the record, I loved BitDefender until it became unreliable, bloated with pointless features, full of ****** errors, and ineffective at protecting my PC with the Firewall NOT WORKING.
I'm sick of it.
Seriously, please fix the above issues, and please use updated .net framework too; version 1.1 is a joke now.0 -
I would like the ability to have the scheduled nightly (or whenever) scan have the ability to logon to run. This would require a username/password entry. This is a big ticket item for me. I have all kinds of things going on at night on my machines and I almost always am logged off when the scheduled scan is supposed to be performed.
I have looked and tried the bdc.exe command line version, but that does not appear to be integrated into the GUI logs and status pages at all. Plus there are not as many options with that on how to deal with a virus (like first attempt this, second attempt this, etc).

has anyone notice that we post these suggestions?
do you really think Bitdefender Developer gives a f*** what we post here? i mean can anyone reply?Eric very good suggestion's but you forgott the most important thing:
If an AV has not good detection rate then it's WORTHLESS .
So the very good-smart suggestion is: IMPROVE the heuristic & detection rate before releasing 2010. and not just improving little but improve much as all other AV's out there BD2010 should have the best heuristic & HIPS

I dont understand this, These suggestion's has been said many times before by many users ´that: Improve much more detection rate & heuristic and make the BD so it run light and not so heavy as it is. I hope they fix this soon in 2010...

And what exactly you want to be posted here, David G?
Well, for one: in build 12.0.12, released a couple of weeks ago, the firewall driver is signed by Microsoft. So from now on, there shouldn't be any more alerts when installing BitDefender or network adapters. This is one of the biggest problems Eric had, and it was fixed. The rest of them were noted. Problems will be solved sooner or later, and suggestions will be discussed internally so a decision (if to implement them or not) will be made.
Nothing gets un-noticed, even if nobody responds here. Keep posting suggestions and ideas.

Man, where have I been? I may switch back to BitDefender. It's about time they fixed it!
Of course, I really wish they'd drop that entire firewall mechanism, as it doesn't work as well as it should. Now that it is signed, this is great! Now just fix that unreliable SECCENTER.EXE !0 -
Hi,
For BitDefender 2010 :
1. "seccenter.exe" stable.
2. The possibility of being able to choose the module has to install (antivirus and firewall and no antispam for example).
3. A better uninstall. Do not leave files of the previous versions.
Ben550 -
Hi,
For BitDefender 2010 :
1. "seccenter.exe" stable.
FIX SECCENTER.EXE FOR THE LOVE
BitDefender, this is one of the most serious issues currently found contaminating the program. Please get this fixed, as this is a huge security vulnerability; without seccenter.exe, we have no protection. Since it does NOT RESPOND, we have no protection!
Get it fixed!0 -

As someone who has tried BitDefender, the "seccenter.exe stops responding" seems to still cause problems.
I really like BitDefender. Reading some of the posts, it seems that the forum admins don't address every problem. For example, It would satisfy a lot of people, if someone working for BitDefender commented on the " seccenter.exe stops responding" issue, explaining what might be causing it, and what BitDefender plans to do to fix it. I've had no major problems using BitDefender, but a good Firewall is no good if it decides to turn itself of.
A few other ideas:
(1) Windows Update Delay - I've had problems updating Windows Updates through BitDefender in the past, sometimes its fine. If I use Windows Update itself, BitDefender still believes I have updates, and after getting it to rescan, it still often can't tell for a while that the updates are now installed.
(2) Ignoring doesn't always work - When you put a file into the ignore list, is it just for scanning? Because if I have a false positive, something I know is fine, and go and open it after adding it to the list, it still often blocks it when it shouldn't.
(3) A Start Up Manager - Just about every tweaking application has something for Start Up programs - It wouldn't take much to add something that had a look to see what programs where booting up at start-up. It could also have a kind of annoyance level, similar to TuneUp Utilities, which possibly would use users reviews and so on, to determine applications that might cause systems to slow down on boot up. Their could also be a setting to have it detect when new programs have been added and if turned on alert you.
(4) Some kind of process scanner - How about something that checked your processes, and maybe used an online system of user reviews to determine dangerous processes.
(5) The ability to select features you want to install - Some users want as much as they can, some want basic protection - anti virus, firewall, anti spyware etc and non of the extras. Allowing users to select what they wanted would then allow users to choose what they need and not feel like their computer will be getting bloated with junk they don't need.
(6) Back Up - Is there a way to be able to back up your computer onto your computer - the problem is a lot of people who buy basic back up software, may be buying it because they don't have an external or anything else to back their computer onto.0 -
How about fixing the 2009 "scan failed to execute" before making a new 2010 version that will have same massive error ?

Since the Scan Activity Bar cannot be permanently disabled, could you please give users the option to permanently disable the Scan Activity Bar so that it won't show up every time a computer is turned on, restarted, or rebooted?

from 3 years i was using BitDefender ...... and it was sooooooo excellent for me ....... but today i bought Total security 2009 and it was a HUGE disappointment .
because in internet security 2008 i could control in FireWall my internet connection activity , and block or kill any connection i don't like ............ but here i can't do anything , only see the connections but not to block or kill them ...........
Second
the look is so much ugly .... i mean ur logo is Black&Red so can any one explain me why it's know Silver and Ugly green ???????????? , KasperSky , it's look is a very beautiful green LIKE IT'S LOGO , Norton has a beautiful look with Yellow and Black LIKE IT'S LOGO ....... so why here is difference?????
and i hate the both anti viruses . so i suggest as eric suggested to make us change the theme and make us made it by ourselves and share it with every one
and know when i was writing .......my BitDefender has crashed and gave me the message in the attached file .......... after 2 hours of usage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and plz ..at least let us upgrade to BitDefender 2010 for free if we have the 20090 -
Your current registration license was upgraded to BitDefender Internet Security 2010 for the remaining licensing period. Upgrade your product now to benefit for free from the new features and enjoy the continued protection
Any derision, bitterness, frustration, anger, disappointment, incredulity or scorn that is levelled at what is an appalling lack of professionalism and ability to supply a product which does 100% out of the box of what it proposes it should do, is well earned. To take people's hard earned money in exchange for a 3rd rate product in these economic times is a brazen act of arrogance. And this arrogance comes at a price.
Last time I checked, the governing principle of business is centred on a fair & equal exchange of my money for your product. You got my money.
I got a mess.
You can keep my money but I won't keep your product any longer than I need to get it replaced.0 -
