Scan Failed To Execute

  • Looks like I've got the same problems as everyone above.

One thing that I get which no one has mentioned is that if I try to scan and it locks(always) then my computer won't shut down.

I get a message saying ' uiscan is not responding' the only way out is to hit the switch.

A bit of a search, and uiscan seems to be a scanning product used by BD.

This seems to work for me from a first point of view:

    BD Support: #############

Let's try to rule out first a software incompatibility on the system. Please

uninstall for testing purposes the following applications:

    xp-AntiSpy

    Nero 8

    PunkBuster Services

Uninstall BitDefender using this removal tool:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

Then run a registry cleaner (like for example CCleaner or Registry mechanic)

on the system, restart and then reinstall BitDefender Antivirus 2009 using

    this link:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...us_2009_32b.exe

Restart after the reinstall and try to scan with BitDefender using Advanced

View - Antivirus - Virus Scan. Please let me know how it goes.

    #############

Either Nero 8 or Punkbuster could be related to the problem. I uninstalled XP-Antispy as well but do not think that was it.

MY OS is Win XP SP3

Thank you I've just been able to do my first scan in a week.....

Just dumped Nero7, CCleaned registry, then repaired BD. ALL GOOD.

BD techs that wasn't too hard was it?????????? <img class=" />

    Thanks Brad.

    Thanks Brad.

Probably it's harder than you think... I've also uninstalled and cleaned the registry before re-installing, but that didn't solve the problem.

(And don't be rude to the support staff - I think the support is better than for most other software for ordinary users!)

I've had NO support that is the thing. I've sent the Emails and reports and not one reply , not even an "thank you we are looking into this"

I know it can't be easy, but I'm not a beta tester, and a bit of customer service isn't to much to ask.

One question that I wanted an answer to was

"Is it safe to still use BD while I'm having these problems"

Not answering a question is also rude, so were even. :)

Fixing a problem with their own product is not customer support. Giving us a work around until they do fix it is.

  • Hi,

I am using Bit Defender for the last 2 months: All of a sudden it says Scan Failed to execute:

Not sure what went wrong, is this a dodgy product ?

    Can someone help me:

Administrators can you send me the patch which was discussed in these threads.

    Regards,

  • Why is the patch not auto downloaded? I need it to. Vista 64 bit w/ Bitdefender Antivirus 2009.

  • I have had the same issue over the past couple of days. I am using Win Xp SP3.

I now seem to have BT working fine and scanning when every requested or scheduled.

    This is what I did:

1 - Downloaded the removal tool and ran it. Noticed error about removing main entries in registry

    2 - reboot PC

3 - Download latest version of BT from website

    4 - Run install program

5 - Install program gave option of repair or uninstall (seems to still think I had it installed)

    6 - Select un-install

7 - Reboot PC (Seem to be the answer for almost any other PC issue  )

8 - Re-run BT uninstall tool and see if removal of items from registry still has an issue (which it did).

    9 - Run CCleaner

    10 - Reboot

11 - Run BT uninstall program - still issue with registry

    12 - Install BT

End result, new installation is working fine.

Unsure if it was a mix of using uninstall tool, using normal BT uninstall, and CClean but result is positive (so far).

I tried the exact same thing, except that I ran the CCleaner and BT uninstall tool once or twice more to be sure that everything was removed... Sadly, I'm still stuck with the can't-scan problem...

  • I tried the exact same thing, except that I ran the CCleaner and BT uninstall tool once or twice more to be sure that everything was removed... Sadly, I'm still stuck with the can't-scan problem...

Hope this helps some of you with this problem:

I was unable to scan so I did the above listed items.

Ran BD removal tool and noted main registry items would not remove.

    Rebooted.

Ran same removal tool again, same note on main reg items not removed.

Ran installer for BDIS-2009. There was only one bug noticed during install.

    Rebooted.

At this point XP (sp3) told me it was shutting down a potentially dangerous software which was BDIS-2009.

Laughed, computer was working without BD.

Rebooted and all seemed well, XP and BD are running now.

Next day BD warns me of a potentially dangerous software, it was "Windows Operating System".

Laughed and rebooted again. I'm running out of reboots, need to order some soon.

Now I can do scans again and all seems fine for now.

I may need to do this from time to time until my license expires and I move on.

  • I have used BTS 2008 AND 2009. FYI is serious matters to all; my many emails I asked for solution from BT Forums and BT agents/retailers did not solve any of my problems or question. After reading all your threads posting here, I conclude that I will not buy or use any of their products.

Concisely, I don't trust any Bitdefender Product. My many problems include one or more of the same happening to you. I regretted to buy their product with F*** and Sc**wed because it is not a good antivirus software and lousy update to create new problems, and is getting worse than before.

  • Hi,

I have the same problem. Please can you send me the same file via email. It is a dissapointment that BitDefender have failed as I was conducting a prospective test for my father's company when this ocurred.

    Many Thanks

Bravo! It worked for me. XP- SP2, 16bit. I was getting no error message except "the scanning process was not started in the required time interval. Press ok to close the Bitdefender Antivirus scanner."

I rebooted windows and started getting the "failed to execute" message. [both of these messages were buried, BTW. If that is by design it seems like a poor one. I thought I was getting no response until I started closing windows for the reboot]

When I found this nearly 5000 message thread I thought I was in for a long process, but my timing was perfect. I ran the above file from the site- got a message about a file on my computer in the windows system folder- reported it to bitdefender - rebooted & all is well. [or at least it is scanning as I write]

    Thanks-

Great! Diana's method worked quickly for Vista, 32-bit operating system, with "scan failed to execute" error message. I simply executed the small downloaded file, waited a minute, then manually started a successful "full scan". Perhaps there had been a problem with a system update. Many thanks for the help. Howard

Worked for me too - Win XP SP3. First scan in 45 days. Thanks!

  • i am having the same problem i cannot run any scans at all

not even manual scan option from start menu

  • @kerrfamily

Did you try to run the patches in this article?

  • I had the same problem as most of the other users on this thread, and I have written about it earlier:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?sho...12441&st=50

I had a lot of email discussions back and forth with the support team, which sent me several 'fixes' which did however not fix the problem at all. Eventually I even tried re-formatting my hard drive and re-installation the operation system from scratch (Windows XP SP2) and upgraded it through Windows Update to the most recent version (SP3) with all important updates installed. I re-installed BitDefender 2009 and --- it still didn't work!

    {I suggest that you do NOT try the procedure described above, since it is REALLY time-consuming (at best it takes a couple of hours) and didn't even solve the problem.}

Eventually I got so frustrated with working for free as a debugger for BitDefender that I demanded my money back. And - to the credit of BitDefender - they did in fact provide me with a complete refund for my 3 PC, 3 year license, although I only had the "no scan" problem on one of my 3 PC's and had used the license for 3 months. Thanks!! :) It seems from the last few posts in this thread that the problem is perhaps now fixed, but as you can probably understand, I have now switched to another antivirus program.

Important lesson: Always make sure your product is fully developed and OK before you launch it. And if it is not OK at launch, make sure the FIRST fix you provide actually works, and not the FIFTH, because if you loose a paying customer like myself due to technical problems, he/she will never return.

    ---

Meanwhile my house has been burglared two days ago and the PC with the BitDefender problem was one of the items which was stolen from me, so that's another way of solving the problem, I guess... :( --- but I'm not blaiming BitDefender for that incident, though!

  • Hi,

I get the "Scan failed to execute". I've tried to install the patch from the site Diana posted. When it's installed the "Fix this issue" disappears, until I change the mode to standard or advanced, it then comes back. Before changeing mode, I still get the "Scan failed to execute" text, when trying to start a scan.

    What to do?!

    I got winXP sp3.

  • Hello CasperSand,

If the patches did not manage to resolve the situation that you have been facing then we have other troubleshooting methods that we can use to find the cause of that error message. I have created ticket ID 200905041008485 in the support database and you should receive an e-mail shortly with some instructions.

    Thank you.

Hi Diana, I tried the new patch but the only way BD will work is if the UCA is turned off all the time, yes I did download the patch with the UCA off there are a lot of people having trouble with this, I think its from a February update.

It only happens in my Vista, I thought I had cured my problem but they tell me having the UCA off is a security risk

    Thanks Terry

  • Hello terryg,

The situation you have reported with UAC is only occurring on Vista because this feature was only implemented starting with that operating system. If you have a complete security solution installed on the machine you are not opening yourself up to any security threats by disabling UAC.

In the meantime, our testing team is investigating the interaction between BitDefender and UAC so as to determine what may be the cause of the situation you have described.

    Thank you for reporting it!

    Hi Diana.

I am running XP SP3, Danish

I followed your guidelines in post #36

    Uninstalled PunkBuster Services

    Uninstalled using windows Add/Remove Program

    Noticed errors

    Ran your uninstall tool

    Rebooted

    Ran CCleaner

    Rebooted

Installed latest version from your site

Followed your guidelines from your article 547 "What to do when BitDefender scan functions are not working"

I still have the problem, and I am running XP SP3, not Vista like the other guys.

    Please help

  • Hi.

As mentioned before, could it be possible that BD have some problems with special danish characters. The "Common Files" folder on danish versions of Windows contains a special character?

I've had the same thought - let's do some research. Is there anyone out there having tried all solutions mentioned in this forum AND using an English/American version of Windows XP that still get the "Scan failed to Execute" error?

I am having the same issues. I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition. When I try to run a scan I get "scan failed to execute". This error appears both when trying to launch a scan through the BitDefender UI and from the start menu. Can I get the patch to see if it fixes the problem.

    Resolved: Here's How.

These are the Steps I used to fix it:

    1) Go to LiveChat

    2) Title your problem and submit your email within the form. It does not have to be the mail account linked to your Bitdefender Edition. I used my personal email and it worked just fine.

    3) In a matter of seconds, you will be linked to a tech. Say hi and describe your problem.

    4) They will ask you a series of question including your Bitdefender Edition and if you have any other antiviruses installed. Ask them for a Patch to fix your problem.

    5) Wait for the email and download & extract the attachments.

    6) If you are a Vista user go to Control Panel and search UAC in the search box in the upper left hand corner. Click on the link which directs to to temporarily turn it off. Turn off UAC.

    7) Run the patch according to your bit version. x86 for 32 bit users and x64 for 64 bit users.

    8) Restart your computer and as soon as the screen turns black symbolizing that Windows successfully shut down and is now booting up again, rapid tap F8 until you get a text screen where you can Select "Safe Mode" as the boot up type. Highlight "Safe Mode" and hit Enter.

    9) Choose your account and find the attachments you downloaded. Go to the folder that contains the patch. Run the EnableTrace.reg file inside.

    10) Go back and open the other FOLDER called EnableTrace and run the EnableTrace.reg in there as well. (one of them fixed the problem and I did not want to make 2 trips using Safe Mode so I clicked both.)

    11) Restart the computer with a regular boot mode. If you are a Vista User, go ahead and re-enable UAC after confirmation that the patch was a success.

    12) CONGRATS.

NOTE: THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS FALSE. Well the UAC part is. If you are a Vista user DO NOT, AND I REPEAT DO NOT, turn UAC back on. The problem is between UAC and Bitdefender so keep it off.

  • Hello rollo331,

First, please tell me if you tried turning off UAC, running a registry cleaner software and using the patches listed in the KB article in order to see if it makes any difference.

Also, we have searched the support database for your Ticket ID - 200905021006921 - and the issue is that what you were sent by e-mail are not patches, but diagnostic tools and in order to continue the troubleshooting process we would have needed the reports generated by those tools. I have sent you a new e-mail with some steps to follow, please reply to it with the reports when you have the time.

    Thank you!

I have the same issues with the "fail to scan messages" I have downloaded the update and still does not work. 2 computers in home with same issues. is solution coming soon?

  • The patch that we tested at the beginning of this thread will only work in some cases when a certain file called "tasks_system.xml" was corrupted and this is the reason why the scan wasn't running. Unfortunately this scenario does not apply in all the cases when the error message "Scan failed to execute" is generated.

I have conceived a checklist that you can use in order to go through some basic troubleshooting steps if you have the error message "Scan failed to execute" when trying to launch a scan from the dashboard:

    1. Go to BitDefender -> Advanced View -> Antivirus -> Virus Scan. Check in order to see if you have "Deep system scan", "Full system scan" and so on listed there. If not, please proceed to step 4 in this list. If you have them listed there, click on one of scans and select "Scan Now";

    2. If you receive the "Scan failed to execute" error message please open the Task Manager and look for the process called "uiscan.exe". If you don't have it there please go to the next step;

    3. Go to Start - Programs - BitDefender 2009 - BitDefender Manual Scan. Please try to see if you can launch the scan like this. If the scan doesn't launch this way proceed to step 5. If the scan launches using this method please Stop the scan and go to the next step.

    4. Boot the PC in Safe Mode and run the patch available here then restart in normal Windows mode. Now try the steps listed at step 1 and see if you can run the scan. If not, please proceed to the next step.

    5. Uninstall BitDefender using this removal tool then restart the system. Now download the latest kit available for your product using one the following links:

    Antivirus 32bits 64bits

    Internet Security 32bits 64bits

    Total Security 32bits 64bits

After reinstalling and restarting check in order to see if you can run a scan. If the scan still returns that error message then further troubleshooting will be needed in order to determine if there is a conflict on the system that is causing this situation.

Diana, the fix worked for my system which is a XP64 bit. I had to go through complete installation.

    Thanks,

    Pete

  • We have a patch that I would like you to try - I have sent it to you by e-mail a couple of minutes ago. Please try to use it and see if you are able to scan after running it.

Well it sounds like you get better response time on the forums then actual emailing a complaint! Now I am going to vent. I have used Bitdefence 2009 total Security for nearly 65 days now, the first 30 days (surprise suprise) worked OK... no real problems etc, found a great deal on a retail version (Price drop and now I know why) ever since I have had nothing but problems and PROBLEMS!

I feel every review I have read is lying to the reader! Every 10-15 days I need to re-install the entire program to make it work, plus it wont even install on my Windows Home Server. I have contact and provided the support staff at Bitdenfer with all the information and heard nothing back on anything regarding what I can do or fix the problem.

I am getting very tried of the product by installing it and re-installing it to 1) get it install, and 2) to make it work. Maybe Comodo Virus and firewall isn't so bad, and it's FREE, and the support staff reply in 24 hours... not 2 weeks!

I truelly don't understand why ever review says great things about both the firewall and virus scanner, well... to be honest the virus scanner is good, if you can actual scan your computer! the Firewall is junk and will crash under any heavy load (download bittorrents etc) and they continue to read the support staff tell you to disable UAC, but that's not the answer!

I am willing to keep it all if I they can actual provide a fix to the issue. I find the virus scanner seems to work on my other vista x64, but I don't actual have a retail copy as my code for Total Internet Security only works with that package... go figure. So even if I wanted to just install the scanner I have to install everything else and we all know how well things work when you try to disable parts of bundle software and install another part to fill the whole! What is wrong here!

    Stressed out on bitdefender...

  • Hello Kev76,
