Been Awhile But I Am Back!

So, its been awhile since I posted on this forum. My other topic talked about how poorly warcraft 3 and bit defender get along. There have been other people that are having the same issue at a non bit defender web site. Now so everyone knows Zone Alarm, Mcafee's, and Nortons firewalls allow me to host games. I still have a subscription from Bit defender so I decided to install it and fire it up in hopes that they probably fixed the issue. Well guess what happened? If you guessed that the PC I have this installed on no longer can host games you are 100% correct. I decided to come back to this forum to let the staff know that the firewall is still having issues with this particular game. Now if anyone has any ideas that have not been mentioned in the previous thread I am all ears. Thanks and have a good one!

  • Hello Tokool,

Have you read this topic? http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=4421

Please post if applying those steps solves the problem or not. If it doesn't, we'll have to think of something else, because I believe it's just a matter of firewall rules.

    Cris.

  • Yes Cris per the previous topic i linked too. I tried all of those. They do not fix the issue. Also I no longer have a router.

  • Since the other topic was about BD2008 and you also had a router, maybe some things have changed.

Please go to the Activity tab (in the Firewall section), check the option Increased log verbosity, try to host a game, then open the Firewall log and post the last few lines.

Also, does the game work with the firewall disabled from the interface?

    Cris.

  • This is what the log says Cris. In bd2009 I am still having the same issue. I tried disabling the firewall in its entirety (still doesn't help). The only way I can host a game is if I uninstall bitdefender altogether.

  • As far as I can see, there isn't something blocked by the firewall.

In order to properly debug this problem, I'd like to ask to you disable something in BitDefender, so we can find the cause of your problem.

    So please do this:

    - open BitDefender Security Center (Advanced Mode), go to Update and disable automatic update (Permanently). You need to do this so it won't affect the rest of the test.

    - reboot in safe mode (reboot your computer and press F8 to get to the Boot menu, then choose Safe Mode)

    - go to

    C:\Program files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2009\

    and find the file bdpredir.dll

    - rename that file to something else (like bdpredir.dll.old) and reboot your computer normally

    - then try to create a host for warcraft3 and see if it works.

Renaming that file doesn't affect your security in any way. All antivirus engines are still active and working fine, also the firewall is active. Only a few modules that are used for traffic monitoring will be disabled.

Please don't update BitDefender until you finish your test, because BitDefender will automatically download a new copy of the renamed file. After you finish testing, you ca re-enable Automatic Update (and undo the above steps in renaming the file).

    Please post the results.

    Cris.

  • Cris attempted the above mentioned steps still cannot host a game. :(
