Changing Scan Frequency

Dumb question: I'd like to change the scan frequency to more than 5 days as the scan on my machine takes 2 1/2 hours, during which time the machine is less responsive, and we can't switch users. It seems like this would be a pretty obvious facility, but I can't see a setting to control this! Help would be appreciated.

  • Hello Paul Morrison,

To change the schedule date and time for your scans, open BitDefender Security Center (Advanced Mode), go to Antivirus -> Virus Scan, right click on the scheduled task (you can see an icon with a clock near it), choose Schedule, and there you can change when and how often the scan will take place.

Thanks Cris, but I'm afraid that didn't do it. It shows "No schedule", but if I go more than about 5 days without doing a scan, I start getting the dreaded red triangle on my BD icon. It's the 5 days I would like to increase - 2 weeks would be about right for me.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hello Paul Morrison,

The notification time for the Basic View "You haven't scanned your computer for x number of days" cannot be changed because it is a built in feature in the product. If you do not wish to get that notification simply go to Basic View in BitDefender - Security and uncheck the "Yes" checkbox for Monitor next to that notification.

When it comes to the issue about not being able to schedule, if you have Windows Vista please disable UAC in the Control Panel (if you have it enabled) and go to Advanced View -> Antivirus -> Virus Scan -> right click on the type of scan that you wish to schedule and select "Clone" and then set up the scheduled scan.

    Thank you!

Thanks, Diana! So simple when you know how! I didn't mean I had a problem scheduling scans - I just meant to say that I hadn't scheduled any! I can't schedule them ahead of time as our computer is only up during the day, when it gets heavy use. But thanks anyway! P.
